roots exposed to light - flood /drain - H2O2 - any negatives?

hey all,

grown in soil once before many moons ago, currently in my first hydro flood and drain set up and every thing is going ok.

set up is as follows for seedlings:
- light cycle 19/5
- seeds/clones in rockwool - 100 x 50 pvc rectangle with 38mm holes drilled for rockwool
* once rooted 2 flood cycles, 20 min after lights on and halfway through light cycle, drain is gravity so 1min flood on for pump there after it drains*
- seedlings in 3"netpot with super course perlite as medium around the rockwool- 100 pvc pipe end capped and sealed then top is cut off to mount multiple 3" netpots
* week 2 - 6 floods spaced evenly through out light cycle *
- 12l res ph'd and hydro nutes to suit seedlings (130ppm , will dial it in when i can, water is 25ppm)
- each full 12l res gets 30ml of 50% H2O2 each month, with 2 weeks in no algae/ root rot issues far as i can tell
- note: best way to describe the set up for how roots are housed is as a dwc that floods 1 min and is drained most of the time, will need to dial in number of floods as i go but will have a small reserve in the flood chamber/tub once i'm out of seedling growth in veg/flower.

i have had nute lock out due to low res temps 14-15c deg, recovered and ok growth now just slow, so just trying to get everything in shape as i've already had that set back.

Question:

so both the inside of the pvc chambers are exposed to light and just confirming if this is an issue ( no algae/ root rot due to H2O2 use) as the roots would be exposed to light and i dont want reduced root/plant growth?

any help is appreciated.

thanks
-dan

Trying to maintain a Ph in this stew ...with h202? is gonna be interesting

along with expecting red wood trees with sunbaked roots tell me more than I care for

keep your account at the dispensary open

ph seems pretty stable as i ph once a week at 5.5, climb to 6.2 or so then ph back down.

so your personal experience with roots exposed was detrimental?

I have had roots exposed to low levels of light and it didn't cause any issues. I had the plants in white 5 gallon buckets and light got thru. Strong light would dry them out. I noticed nothing negative and the crops were very good.

i run bare rooted f+d with a live res in a hot tent (85+) that i interact with minimally. no issues unless i go to long without replenishing the microbes. ive seen a few others doing the same. serviceable-favorable results all around

nice, that's reassuring to know.

any direct light getting to the roots much like a net pot half filled with medium so sides are exposed to the insides of the bucket or an exposed service/ fill hole?

nice set up, how many floods per light cycle?
drain as soon as tub/bucket is full or hold for a few minutes?

so your tub/bucket/or NFT has direct light entering the container?

Flood interval depends on many factors. Medium, plant size, temperature, humidity, phase of growth. It's not set in stone. Some situations you need to flood every 2 or 3 hours, others 4 or even 6.

1.5 minutes on, 10 minutes off, 24/7. same cycle i use for spray cloners and nft. the drain port is 1.5-2" higher than the fill. light hits the roots until the plants get big enough to shade them. the res is covered

very cool, picture says it all!

nice healthy plants other than a very tiny bit of algae, i now know mine will be fine healthy with my h2o2 version so will rule out light as any real problem.
we run a similar set up except my netpots are hanging in the pvc so more room for air i figure.

thanks for that, its put me in the right direction :)
