may sound like a dumb question but should any water be visible in the tray itself? like a wicking type of watering? I've done this in the past, is why I'm asking
I typically let them dry out between waterings. Give them one good soak in the shower with nutes, then a drink of water every other day to keep her roots quenched with a misting of ph water.

Never leave water in a tray.
if it's not a wick system and just you leaving the roots to drink when they want, it will cause rot.
I water just enough to see a trickle out the bottom. sometime 2-3 times a week if necessary.
I nute with every watering.
and never use pH'd water.
but that's just me. lol

check out DANKSWAG...a wicking type system that uses a layer of pebble underneath the mat,
then running the water through the pebbles and filtering it for the plants and thus promoting more air to the root system.
mom had a setup like this inside the house in a fountain. Very pretty with running water and aspirators releasing mist to the plants on each side of the 'waterfall'.....

I currently have not nearly enough saucers for each grow bag. so i may just line the tray in some Poly. or find saucers. i bought out both walmarts near me. and still need another 30 or so lol....When i add a third light, i will move the 2 i have to the outer walls and the new one dead center. this should give me all the light i will need for the space i am using.(minimum lol)

I didn't know if YOU KNEW what a wick system was... lol. I am not using one at the moment. usually you use straight coco for that i believe...
