Round 2 - Its about time. A [Soil - CFL - Closet] Grow

damn I want to try adderall!!!!!! That was a long post, and a long time working on the grow room. must be good shit man! But looking forward to the pics. Keep Growingpeace man

I always made fun of people who took adderall too, assuming it did nothing, but hell nooo it fucked me up, I took a second one earlier, I have been up for about 48 hours now, and I am WIDE awake. But smoking the nasty resin and shit was making me sick, not a good mix while your on adderall haha, seriously I would start gagging so bad, normally I can take the nasty taste perfectly fine and don't mind it at all. But the adderall really doesn't kick in without toking some and maybe a few cigs if you smoke them.

I am so happy I ended up buying 8, I was only gonna get 2... I am gonna snort one sunday morning and study all day long for school the next day.

I have pics of them too, theyre the 30mg rx ones, that you take once a day and its effect lasts all day, compared to the not rx ones. The first time taking it yesterday was so crazy, it was definitely worth the $2 thats the price of a freakn energy drink that doesn't do crap, adderall will keep you up alllllll nighttt, seriously it makes you feel so euphoric and 100% chill like i wanna melt... I don't know why, but adderall is feeling exactly like ecstasy, except the Adderall kept me up longer and I was a bit more fucked up, but not hyphe like with ecstasy or anything. Haha 8 for $15 what a good deal, I have paid $15 for a double stack of x before, 8 adderall would last me a good week and a half maybe two, x would last me about 16 hours... wow... I gotta get a prescription to this stuff.

anyways huge problem... almost got my house burned down
I was up all night and checking on my plants quite frequently, I know I checked them at around 8-9, but I go in there at 11 and I smell the worst shit ever, like poison gas... slightly irritated my eyes, hurt to breathe it... I could obviously tell it was comming from the CFL setup. I look around and inspect it, notice some mylar that was touching a tin can reflector and it look burned so I taped that up and fixed it, then blew the fan all around to get the smell out of the closet, and then just left my closet door open for 15 min, I go back in and theres no difference in the smell, it was just as bad... I immidiately bent down above the gooseneck that had a 40w Bright Effects CFL in it, that CFL has always had problem, it was dimmer than the 26 watters, and it flickered, the other CFL that came in the 2 pack did the same thing but I removed that one awhile ago... but I unplugged that bitch faster than you can say pie... and then removed it from the closet, I thought it was just the light bulbs glass smelling or something, but just a minute ago I unscrewed it and looked at it and oh my god, the ballast is melted where the spiral meets it, pretty blackened, I have pictures. It also looks like whatever gas is in the CFL escaped...

I left the door open to air out for about 20 more minutes until the lights turned off and I shut the door so they could have darkness. I guess we will see how that toxic shit effected them, the whole closet was fucking reaking horribly... so nasty, I felt like dieing in there, damn I feel sorry for the poor plants bathing in it . They looked alright before the lights went off though, so I am not incredibly worried.

Finally I will post the pictures I took yesterday, the dates in bold below are the age of the plants as of yesterday, which is when the pictures were taken. [The pictures are 12 hours old], I will definitely post pictures later on too, in about 10 hours or so...

Day 43 - on 1/31/8 - Beta
Day 31 - on 1/31/8 - All the other plants, even though they're really small.
Day 3 - on 1/31/8 - All the new sprouts.

[By the way, I am getting decent results with the floro, its still early but I am starting to have more faith in that t-12 than the CFLs for vegging small-ish plants.]

By the way, I do not think I will ever buy a CFL above 26w again... maybe my timer fucked it up since my timer is pretty crappy... but both of the 40w CFLs I bought didn't work right... so it could have been the timer, I never tried the CFLs on a circuit without a timer... but oh well, the 26 watters work.

My closet still freakn stinks... I may leave the closet door cracked all night... but the burnt smell seems to be on everything... especially the clothes that were in the closet and all the pillows and crap...

the plants are looking slightly worse now, I would say because of too much toxic air, probably couldn't even get CO2 from the air because of how much of the CFL's gas was dispersed throughout the room, and the burning plastic which that smoke is very toxic to humans .

Lets just say the smell is still so bad I went sniffing around the entire setups because I thought something else was burning, but nah the closet just still reaks horribly of it .

I was finally not lazy yesterday and named all the plants, finally I can easily keep track of watering, I make sticky notes each day of what was watered and highs/ lows.

all seems to be looking good... the T-12 is working.

I watered Beta and Triplists today as well, and a few random sprouts that needed it.

but wow, I need to figure out what to do about flowering fast... 16 more days... grrr I really want to have a veg setup going at the same time but err can't have light reaching the flowering ones... idk what I will do. will I need any special nutes during flowering? I better start stocking up on 2650k bulbs

when i told my hydro dude i was gonna flower,,but couldnt buy the HoLE line of advanced nutes,,what would be good for just now,,he sold me pirahna beneficial fungicide,,carbo-load,,and big bud,,I used this along with flowering nutrients and had great results,,I'm slowly buying the HoLE line,,but these things helped greatly,,,,glad to see you didn't give up again,,nice purchase on the t12 as well,,,,that light should help with heat issues,,when they are small,,they don't need much more than that,,keep up the good work BrokenHope

you need to orginanize your closet asap. you WILL start a fire sooner or later if you continue to go about your grow like this. get a surge protector if you dont already have one. and if you can afford it a 20 dollar hydro farm heavy duty timer. those cords you have laying about everywhere in a small space are contributing to the high heat in you closet as well as being an incredable fire hazard.. for the love of god please get some metal underneath those splitters instead of using dirt. by the way i have ADHD and have been taking aderol for its intended purpose of increased focus for years and i can tell you the affects of aderol will increase 7 fold if you take the time release capsuls and dont eat anything at lunch! dont snort it! that will detroy your brain quicker than cocaine and it will give you a rush more like meth rather than i nice lasting buzz.. im not particularly fond of using aderol as a recreational drug if you take it once every 2-3 days you wont build a tolerance to it and it will get you buzzed every time you take it. no cigarets or weed needed swear to god it works. try it.

Haha woah, I know nothing about those nutes 0_o... I really only have access to stuff thats sold at Lowes or Walmart or something... no hydro or plant nursery stores around here... so is there anything I should start using right now since I am so close to starting flowering?

haha yesss a surge protector is what I need... if I plugged an extention cord into my wall in my room, ran it under the door into the closet and had a surge protector plugged into that, would that be alright? But how would I use the timer for the lights?

I have been trying to clean up the cords... they don't get hot or anything though... and the dirt under those one cords is from teh plant falling over haha its not to try to prevent a fire, that was a mess I had to clean up when a plant fell... but would it be alright for me to wrap electrical tape around all the plugs?

But the only problem was with that one 40w CFL it was nothing I could have helped, the bulb was just bad.

big problems my main plant Beta is drooping badly, and so if the 3 thats in 1 pot... i am not sure why, the lights have not been changed... i think it may be heat stress though... god damnit. it wasnt too bad today but the last few days have gotten very hot. I will have pictures tomorrow.

I think I may be wayyy under watering everything... I just got done watering all the plants so lets see what happens.

awww thats what I thought... its been like a week since that happend though, the closet still kinda has a weird odor to it too . Anything I can do? I have been trying to air everything out as much as possible...

I mean really all you can do is let it air out. Open the windows and get some fresh air in there. I mean if you got rid of the bulb and open the window that's really all you can do. I don't think it will exterminate everything in your house haha.. But it's just not something you want lingering around.

Do you think one day of airing my closet out is enough? I pretty much just left my closet door wide open for almost a full day, as well as the window in my room open, then my room started smelling like it, but that was almost a week ago, now my room doesn't smell, but time to time I can still pick up the faint smell of whatever the lightbulb emitted into the air...

other than that one time I left the door open like that, the closets only ventilation to the air to my room is when I go to check on the plants, which is about 3 times a day, all in 1 12 hour block, the other 12 hours I am not even here or the lights are off.

I did recently have to do some work on my walls, repairing a hole in my drywall in my room, and it got me to thinking, this is pretty easy, I could cut a vent into the wall in the closet and patch it like new no problem... I just don't want the drywall dust poisoning the plants,

Sorry I have been behind on pictures, I stepped up the watering on the newer plants, every 2 days now, I will see if they start drooping or not, because right now they are looking healthy but growing very slow, like all my others... the main plants have still been being watered every 3 days, and they start drooping on the 3rd day before watering, one of my plants Dieing Puffy, lil over a month old under the floro, was drooping horribly and I gave it a good watering and it recovered, I pretty much water everything evenly, so I am thinking maybe everythings under watered...

I really have never had an idea of how to water plants, I usually just water it enough to get the top of the soil nice and wet, which seems to be enough for all the sprouts, but then I don't know... under watering could be the reason like all my plants are small, they definitely seem to grow after a big watering...

sooo heres something I really need help with... I am 100% sure I was underwatering one of my month old plants, so I need advice on watering the plants in bigger pots

later on I will have pictures, I really need suggestions on how much I should be watering my plants that are in the bigger pots, they have drainage holes but not 1 drop of water has ever been drained through them, the soils in the 2 big pots are miracle grow, and miracle grow + dollar general potting soil mix, both absorb the water well, and are bone dry at the top after 3 days when its time to water again. When I water I usually get the top real wet, all around the stem, and I get the edges well, but I use maybe half a liter of water ea, is that enough? Or should I be completely drenching the soil? The roots need oxygen right? does it get that oxygen between watering cycles or all the time?

Definitely pictures tonight, nothing has really grown since the last pictures, oh well, I will post them anyways. I haven't had much time too even look at the plants lately, barely had the energy to water the sprouts yesterday... man this is getting really exhausting, damn I always seem to have a problem finishing things.

I gotta do some reading up on flowering, because currently I have done nothing to prepare and I don't know anything about flowering other than changing lighting to a strict 12/12... and Day 60 starts in a little over a week for my main plant.

It is 4:20, bubbler rip time haha.

P.S. I hope the fact my plants I am flowering are in small pots won't kill them during flowering... I would say they are about a gallon max, my main plant is approaching a foot tall, maybe 10 nodes max with some side branches on node 3 max, the other pot has 3 month old plants that are not very tall. If I tried to transplant it would involve me taking a razor, cutting through the bottom of the thick plastic in each pot, just cutting the bottom off, not messing with the sides, and replanting it in something else deeper, it would be hella ghetto and fucked up, but theres no other way I could transplant either of them at this point.

when you water you need to pretty much water the hell out of your plants. NOT THE SEEDLINGS.. your doing the right thing with your seedlings. just keep the tops moist untill they enter a vegitative growth stage.... as for your other plants they will need to be watered once every 2-3 days or untill the soil is noticably dry. and when you water these plants water them untill you see water coming out of the drainage holes that way you can be sure that the whole root system got a good dose of water!!

That may be my problem, I have never had drainage, even with the seedlings... the miracle grow soil seems to absorb the water completely... the main plant I have is in a sand bucket and I made the holes myself, they are about half the size of the holes that are in the plastic pot I bought from dollar general (theyre roughly both a gallon), so I am not sure if the main plant will even drain, I would say theres 8 holes in the bottom, the size of a nail...

aight, I just watered my month old plants a lot more heavier than usual, they were all drooping and growing very slow, I will see what happens, no drainage in any of them though... I also stepped up the nutes slightly, double what I was using [which was pretty weak]. I still have not watered the main plant though.

you need containers that have larger drainage holes !!the roots need fresh air too. you are sufficating them

Hmm, theres really no way I could transplant them without tearing the crap outta them... haha I am horrible at transplanting... so hmm any ideas on how to make holes in the slightly thick plastic? Brute force with a sharp object like a nail isn't enough to make even a decent dent in it.

Wow I am screwing so many things up haha, oh well at least most of my plants haven't died.

After a good watering my main plant is not drooping anymore and there seems to be new growth, I couldnt get it to drain though. Should I be changing nutes since I am going to flower soon? Any nutes I should get thats sold at Lowes or Home Depot?
