Round 2 - Its about time. A [Soil - CFL - Closet] Grow

Haha alright... so yesterday I did some transplanting.

Dieing Puffy, and Shawty both went in pots, soil was miracle grow.

Then I put 3 of my bigger plants each in a 2 liter, miracle grow and dollar general mixed. I ran out of soil on the last one and wasnt able to get soil all the way around the peat pot - getting more today.

Everything was watered again, even though some of the smaller ones hadn't fully dried.

Some of the 3 weekers got nuted water (with the veg nutes).

Then I mixed up a 20oz bottle of water that sat out 6 hours about, mixed it with 1/4 tsp of MG bloom booster (I could not figure out how much to use... since I am using a 20oz bottle, not a gallon, and the package said big scooper for a gallon, the scooper has 1.5TBs side, and .5 tsp side, the .5 tsp side is marked for indoor... so I tried to get roughly half of the small side.), I watered Beta with that, finished off the bottle on it, and for the first time ever, the bucket drained... and made a big ol mess haha.

Betas looking better for the most part.

All the transplanted ones are looking fuckn nice.

I am looking to figure out how to cover light up from the veg setup.

12 off should start later on if I finish getting everything ready.

I am not sure which plants I want to flower though, Beta for sure... but which others.

Haha thanks.

I finally put in the effort of cleaning out the back of the closet, literally crap piled 2 ft from the wall jammed all the way up to the ceiling, made so much more room, took me 3 hours and now I am pretty much a foot deep with that crap in my room haha, seriously everywhere I walk is junk I mined from the closet.

I may move the CFL setup further in the back of the closet so the florecent setup is not right infront of it. It will be a pain to move, but it will also make the setup overall sturdier.

I went to lowes, bought a giant board for $7 that may help cover up a bit of light, and I bought a new digital timer for $15.

Lights were on 24/0 today, tonight at 11pm the CFLs will go off, florecents stay on another 6 hours, then floros go off, no lights on in the closet at that point, then 6 hours later everything comes back on.

I will be doing a lot of testing later to make sure the floro setup does not leak any light out of whatever I rig to block the light in.

I also bought some more Miracle Grow so tomorrow I can finish transplanting the rest of the smaller plants.

I have a good feeling about this, my plants have never looked so good before :D.

I didnt get around to moving everything...

I just finished sealing up the light, and well... its not fully sealed.

I used black trash bags, all around it, but dim dim light still shines through it. I put the giant piece of ply board, 2 ft wide, right where the floro is parallel to the CFL setup.

I still am able to see my way through the closet with the CFLs off, only because the floor stays lit. Where my plants are at, flowering, I am not able to see them at all, and I can not see my hand more than 2 in away from my face, holding it in the direction of the CFL setup... the plants are in a very dark area, but the light is not fully 100% contained, I would say 98% contained.

Its the best I could do, I gotta sleep soon... I am definitely going to change things around tomorrow, I hope this is alright for tonight.

Thanks a lot :D.

Alright, everything went as planned. Fan stayed on 24/7, CFLs went off at 11pm, back on at 11am, and the florecents went off at 5am, and floros and CFLs back on at 11am.

All the plants have noticeable new growth, Beta looks to be drooping a bit, but its definitely been worse.

I am going to replace some of the CFLs I currently am using with new 26w 2700k bulbs I bought, I have 3.

Most likely I will have pictures later.

I may also raise the CFLs a bit later on, because the drooping could be heat stress. My temperatures are far from being good under the CFLs, with highs of 95 daily. When I move the setup further to the back of the closet, it may help with the temperatures, there should be better air flow.

The gooseneck lamp that my 40w CFL melted in, was removed from the closet way back, been about 3 weeks, think its alright to use in the closet again? The gooseneck is perfectly fine, but I dont know because the CFL probably released mercury vapors all over the place when it happend, concentrating on the goosenecks reflector it was housed all around in. The gooseneck would allow me to light the sides of the flowering plants even better than they already are.

i dont know i wouldnt use the gooseneck. but thats just me. man you should really figure out a way to vent some of that heat 95 is way to hot!!

yea man with temps at 95 the cfl ballasts are reaching ~110 meaning their pretty close to safety standard limits (120f i believe). good luck

Yeah I suppose I wont use that gooseneck for the rest of this grow.

I think a better fan might help, because I have a crappy square one, but I cant find any fans around here since its like freezing outside around here.

Pictures for sure in about 14-16 hours.

Beta is drooping again, not even 3 days after I last watered (which the last time I watered, was the heaviest I have ever watered, it drained for the first time ever last time I watered). I think it will have to start being watered every other day... it was slightly drooping yesterday too...

I used the moisture meter in 2 spots of the soil, dry all the way down, not coming above 2/10, which is very dry.

Should I nute the water with bloom booster every time I water or what?

but everything is still growing and looking good.

One of the joys of cleaning the hell outta your room to make room for shit taken outta the closet: finding stashes of bud you hid when you were so blazed and completely forgot about.

This is the second time I have found a small amount of bud while cleaning crap up. It is a good 2 bubbler bowls, so I would say a good blunt I just found... not sure how old the stuff is, but it didn't smell bad... but it was so dry, it literally turned to powder when I touched it, and I got an entire bowl outta half of what I found, almost 1/2 blunt of all powder ^_^.

Anyways, the closet has more shit in it than I thought, I am going to have to do some major adjustments to the setups to make light blocking easiest, and get the most light blocked as possible, I am aiming for not 1 bit of light, whereas currently theres dim light showing through the trash bags.

Pictures in about 3 hours.

I also watered Beta again until it drained, 1/2 of the water was 1/2 str flowering nutes, then I used normal water. Since then it has perked up a lil.

Temperatures have been maxing at 85 the last few days... maybe cleaning out the closet made a difference, but it is probably because its been cold as balls outside lately XD.

Aww Sorry no pictures today, tomorrow for sure. I have an excuse though, I spent almost 2 hours working on moving the CFL setup, I looked at the light timer (which is now in my closet :D, its awesome its digital and shows the time as well.), and saw the lights were going out in 20 min, which meant I had to cover up the floroecents EXTREMELY fast. I got done 1 min early, today the light from the florecents was 100% covered up. CFLs went out, and the closet was perfectly dark, I could not see a thing, barely found my way out haha.

The new timer I am using on the CFLs works perfect, it is dead on accurate, unlike my old timer.

I added another CFL to the setup so there is now 11. Beta is being lit up on all sides, CFLs very close. Beta had a lot of new growth after the watering earlier, and both of its tops are looking bushy.

Alright I have pictures...

when I went in there right when lights went on today, it was freezing, I had to put my hoody on after a few minutes, hygrometer said it was 74 degrees... didn't feel like no 74 degrees, felt like 50.

How soon should I be able to see pistols? Because I think I may see some... but I really have no clue, the last time I flowered plants they all died before showing sex, but I think I see pistols that were not there before. If Beta turns out to be a female, that would be freakn sweet, Betas like 4 times the size of my other plants :D.

1-4 weeks befor they start showing.. if you see something that looks like a pistol though its probably a female.. male plants are extremly obvious.. youll see balls all over the place...

Thanks Jake, I have taking a look at more flowering pics, and I dont think what I see is pistols, I think its just normal growth, we will see :D.

Please read previous post, and comment on pictures.

I finished adjusting the veg setup, put a piece of drywall to the left of it so it blocks the light on that side perfectly, the right side, back, and top are blocked by walls, and the top of the shelf, then I have the front covered with black trashbags, and a 2' x 4' sheet of ply board on the side to block any light that could potentially escape from the corner where the trash bag on the side meets the ones on the front. Basically, the light is hella blocked from the T-12. Its a pain to set up every night, but its more manageable now with the new adjustment.

Question: Should I be watering my plants with nuted water with every watering?\ I have been doing that... but I am now reading things saying ever 3 times...

Temperatures maxed at 93 today, they were around 85 for most of the day though... I think the fan could be placed better, maybe directly in front instead of from the corner?

The next watering tomorrow will be without nutes.

Everything is looking good, lowered Beta about 2 inches away from the lights on the top, and lowered some of the plants from the floros, they literally touch the bulbs.

Temperatures maxed at 96 today :(.

I cannot seem to get the temperature down. I think I may have to ditch the reflector I made for the CFLs, the heat is getting completely trapped under it and the fan does not blow heat out fast enough, and theres not enough room for heat to even be blown out as fast as its getting produced, because the sides and back are pretty much sealed, and the reflector in the front creates a heat bubble above... getting rid of the reflector would mean A LOT more light loss than I have already sacrificed...

I gotta tell ya man, I'm pretty impressed with your ambition and patience. It seems so many would have given up by now... Your beta proves that this plant really is resilient as fuck. As far as nuts, at least every other watering or more. Keep in mind that heat rises and also be aware of how much air is coming in vs out. Hope i could be help, keep it up man.

i havent read your grow since the beginning so excuse me if you have done so already .. but have you tried placing an exhaust right above your light? makes a big dif as opposed to anywhere else its located
