Saving some old mothers

Hello new member from Michigan. I have been browsing around and Have benefited much from the combined knowledge here. my current run of 4-GG-4 that were part of saving an overgrown mother. Left me by a commercial grower friend. It is purported to be a JW Cut and has the red pistoles and twisting leafs of the ones I have searched online. I was able to root a total of 19 and the earliest two were super cropped, topped several times and basket weaved (I abuse thes things as soon as they root in the coco mix). And a early plant that I was going to hold on for a mother and only topped twice for stretch. Girls are into week 5 and stacked 8 nodes high, snow covered and starting their late swell. Blah, blah, blah....I’ll start a thread with some pics, as they are worth a million words and I’m rambling, time for meds Orange OG fatty...smoke up! Later

I don't bother with keeping mothers. I just cut clones of my keepers 2 weeks in flower. Most hybrid marijuana acts more like an annual than a perennial so old mothers can be problematic and take up a lot of space. Clones are small and easily replenished. Congrats on your lovely plant, nice job.

Nice score from your buddy. Unlike Curious, I do keep clone Mommas usually. I'm having to shut down for awhile and am currently flowering all my Moms. But normally I keep 3 or 4 and try and keep them Bonsai-ed as much as possible. Root trims, severe pruning and always cutting clones...keeps them small.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. There are many ways to do most things, vive la difference.

curious, i have just started cloning the two plants in flower to make the 4 week cycle easier and get better top clippings i took 9 cuts at 3 weeks and they are just shooting root hairs should be monsters with very close node spacing and super crop bulbs at the cuts. As soon as i can DL my pics from the phone i will show some better shots. i have 2 i just put in flower a week ago and they are shooting hairs and starting to stretch (a few 5" in a day) i bend them to let secondaries catch up for SOG. I also found a purple thai bag seed that popped in two days and is in soil 4"tall w/second fan leaves coming in today, hopefully its a she and will "love me long time", i just love the old thai stick we used to score once a year.Either way it will be crossed with a nice cut of the GG4. i have 12 cuts from the mothers and another 8 from the flowering plant and am culling out the best for breeding and the others will be grown out for stash and a few seed runs of the JW GG4 to hold and share. I am also waiting on some Durban Poison seeds to play with and would like to cultivate some of the oldschool landrace strains if anyone has some to trade for the coming GG4 seeds.

I keep mothers of everything until I know that it's nothing special. Lost a few amazing surprises because of no stock. And I have been hit with diminishing returns on clones from clones. Just keep cutting to size. Like this under 40W 3700K panel. Cutting up later today.

once i find the "right" plant of the GG4 i will set it aside as the new mommy, looking for structure of a savanah tree and close node spacing to keep plants under 4' with a canopy spread of 4'x4'. and thick stems to support the weight of the fat colas.I have 4 beautiful candidates vegged at around 9" already topped and cropped for the next run in 3 weeks.(pics to come)

life is defined by three letter acronyms anymore, TBI, PTS, and a few 3" titanium screws and plates. And as for President Dump TBI is much more than a "headache", it is shaken baby syndrome, or your brain being used as a basketball against your cranium.

Sucks don't it? 22feet to concrete. 2 screws, coral implant, 4 surgeries and ended up having three bones removed from my wrist. Everything else healed. Besides my pride.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. Your, 'love you long time' reference was what I've heard my hub say many times. He did 22 years USAF and a couple of them in Philippines. That's why I asked. I came to cannabis and secondarily to RIU related to a car crash so I can definitely relate.

yep 10 fractures, wrist, hip in 4 places, 5 ribs and 1 vertebrae, luckily i grabbed a downspout and went in sitting. have had dbl hernia later due to it, two screws and plate in hip and same in wrist. been a daily smoker since i was 15 always helped with type A personality, now its about tailoring the smoke for what me and the wife (fibromyialgia) need as meds and like as smoke. all the new designer weed is fine for a taste but im not smoking for cookies or cake. give me some Thai, or old school michigan Monkeypaw, would love to get some Acapulco Gold, or panama red.

It's been 25 years since I've even heard those names. I'm stinky, sticky, slightly fruity and potent without choking kinda guy. If it doesn't help with the pain....I at least should not be bothered by it as much.

Sounds like we come from a similar time period. THC seems to be the most effective for pain, while CBD can't be beat for helping with inflammation. I loved the thai sticks we got back in the late 60's and early 70's. The best pot I ever smoked was some Michoacan, man that was a good smoke and a great high.

i hear you Curious, i would love a few beans of that too. Then came Northern ligths and the Hawian strains.
