The freebies were with a recent drop, don't know if they are still available as freebies at GLG,JBC, or DCSE. I'm making sure the crosses aren't duds before letting them out into the wild. I may appear in a US seed bank in the not too distant future. No apology necessary :bigjoint:

I picked up a pack of Gelato (i think 33) x Ecto cooler that I have recently popped.
Can you tell me anything about the phenos (I am not familiar with either parent).
Any certain pheno I should be on the look out for?
Thanks in advance.

Taste

A long draw inhale over the Gelato #45 flowers presents a sweetened earthy smell with an influence of the sour/fuel-type aromas. It is less gas/diesel and more like spent fireworks. This acrid note is not off-putting, but is stirring the aroma of the doughy soil foundation.

As the smoke high fives your tongue on the exhale, you can taste lightly sweetened earth as the smell hinted. The tongue interprets the acrid spent gunpowder as more of a mentholated “cool” lighting up your taste buds as you blow smoke. Unexpectedly, there was almond extract at the tail end; a non-sweet black cherry taste. The smoke is not a thick expansive toke, but the taste does have staying power keeping your lips smacking after the smoke is gone.

Effect

The Gelato#45 effect begins as an elevated mood, with tingling in the head. This tingling shifts to the chest after 10-15 minutes and conjures hints of a coming raciness/anxiety. This impending anxiety never really develops as a more balanced relaxation grows throughout the body accompanied by some slight visual overstimulation. Lights seem too bright, moving objects too fast, etc.

The balanced high fully develops after about 15-20 minutes. Joint pains and aches seem to melt away without a couch-lock stone. Your brow slowly drops as a wave of ease pours over your face. A calm creativity is allowed to bloom as mental clarity, positive mood, and released tension mingles in a great equalized high.

This experience lasts 1.5-2hours and does not have a crash that leaves you taking unscheduled naps. As you continue to toke on the Gelato#45, the initial threats of raciness/anxiety are sidestepped and the relaxed good mood is reinvigorated.

Overall
Gelato#45 offers a stable modern strain that is not a finicky grow. She will begin to develop purple accents around week 5-6 of flower and finish with a visual appeal of a bowl of Fruity Pebbles. Her kiss of Tanzanite adds violet, rose, and indigo to a plant that can show off through the favorable leaf/calyx ratio.
View attachment 4314622

She has a great smell/flavor combo that includes a less common sour/fuel expression, visual appeal, and easy trim, all without the fussiness some cookie plants/hybrids can demand. Gelato#45’s dense nuggetry is a very satisfying midday/evening smoke that can help ease aches and elevate mood. She will have you coming back for a second bowl of gelato.
Male: Ecto Cooler (Cali-O (Ae77 cut) x Gorilla Biscuit).....[Gorilla Biscuit = Sensi Star x Stardawg IX]
ECTO COOLER MALE.jpg

The Ecto Cooler females expressed varying forms of citrus with either a taller less dense bud structure or a shorter, stockier build with dense buds. This male is of the tighter structured variety. His stem rub emits orange peel scents.

As far as which phenos to look out for, that will be up to you. This is an F1 cross, so you can expect the usual variance of plants expressing degrees of either parent. My rationale for the cross (what I would look to find) would be a plant that expresses the taller, better leaf/calyx ratio with the orange/citrus terp profile and more robust tolerance for grow environment (getting away from the finicky cookie plant). You can see from the pictures of both parents, that you will be able to spot the structural leanings earlier in veg as they are different enough to segregate. Ecto Cooler phenos will be a bit shorter, more leaf density, and citrus stem rubs. The Gelato phenos will be taller, less leaf, and express some coloration in mid/late bloom.

Single Branch pollinations of Black Lights (Black Domina x NL#1) F2 shucked and separated by female pheno. Very glad I grabbed the Black Lights before Coastal closed up shop. There were a couple black phenos and a pink/rose colored pheno (below), so keeping these separated will help me know which to dig through in the future after each gets a smoke test.

Fresh shuck (haven't separated the mature/immature seeds yet). These are large seeds, some look like you could crack a windshield if you threw it hard enough.

After the floods of a long brainstorm have receded, I've decided on a base from which to build sativa work.

Fleur du Mal Seeds

The Super Sativa Seed Club description for the Durban-Thai Highflyer
SSSC. Durban-Thai Highflyer.png
This pairing (D-T Highflyer x C99) has appeared before as an original regular release from the first iteration of Bros. Grimm as DTC99 from 1999. These seeds have been worked from the original DTC99 release toward the Durban-Thai Highflyer.

DTC99.png
I wanted a sativa with the no-ceiling euphoric high without the 16-20week flowering time. Given this goal with my preference for vintage genetics and I was quite pleased to have found these. They are being popped right now and I'll update periodically. This strain will get chucked on some nice clones, but as far as which pair will go on for further work, it's between Skunk#1, G13 Skunk, or G13 Haze. I'll have a better idea when I can see what's what.

Skunky D (Chem D x Skunky Brewster) male and his soon to be pollen recipients getting closer to dustin' time.

Skunky D - day 20 of 12/12...Before he started dropping pollen, his stem rub was a majestically funkier Chem D stench. He has the slight rotted meat, fecal hint, with the fungal infection touch of his Skunky Brewster father. The only thing he's missing are the green stink lines lofting above him.
skunkyDmale-day 20.jpg
This is the tent full of ladies waiting for his pollen. The giant on the left is H.A.OG showing the OG stretch that will get ya if you don't flip quickly enough. The back-right corner is where the Skunky Brewsters are settled, almost disappeared in the sea of Chem. They have the classic Afghan/Skunk short bush stature.

Here are a few of the ladies further along in flower development.

Hello smokehog, thanks for the kind words and general interest. Unfortunately, I'm not currently looking for testers and do not mail out beans beyond the US. When/if I make it on a seed bank menu, they would be far better equipped/experienced to get them to you.

Out of curiosity, what have you been growing that fell short of your medicinal expectations?

Which seedbanks would you like us to pester? I'll send each one 20 emails a day until I get my hands on some of your chemd bx project or the skunkyD's:hump:

Hey Schwaggy P thats cool my friend i really liked some of the strains you have been working. Not had a good time a lately with the nerve pain and swelling in my back and knee so starting up again to help the pain relief. I have high tolerance which does not help. I did barney cookies and cream, and just was not strong enough. Also did black skull GSC but not strong enough. I find when getting from seedbanks that its hit and miss. Always on the lookout for the killer strains what send you to sleep. When most people need daytime smoke i need the nighttime smoke due to the nerve pain and and trying to keep calm and on a level. Hope you make it to the seedbanks one day.

If I may, try staying away from anything cookies if you're looking for proper medicine. Until Schwaggy gets his seeds out there, Bodhi's SunShine DayDream is known for helping with nerve pain in particular and any of his 88G13HP crosses should knock your socks off. You may also want to look into CBD salve, my grandma says it's life-changing for her serious arthritis. (I am happy to share the company if you PM me). Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

And thank you Schwaggy for keeping us in the loop! The DTHF projects sound exciting, same with the seed bank prospects! Much love. :bigjoint:

 I've already pestered a seed bank and got the green light. I'm just testing things out to make sure they'll behave and be able to show/describe what you're getting yourself into with them . It's hard not to just toss 'em in a pack and enter the market, but I'm trying to figure out a way to make things available while also working more involved projects. I'm thinking of just releasing small batches of the steps toward a longer term goal. The H.A.OG BX1 will be ready soon and while my ultimate goal is many BX's away, I think releasing each BX generation would be met with some interest.

I know quickly getting seeds to market without any testing or information has become an acceptable practice, but I'm not totally comfortable releasing tons of unknowns into the wild. I may just put up the untested things as BOGO freebies or for sale at a low price with more seeds per pack. I saw my 7-seed freebie packs being sold online and purchased for $100 without any grow/smoke reports, so I see there is interest. I just wouldn't slap a $100 tag on seeds that haven't been heavily worked/vetted.

Thank you for your interest and offer to pester! :bigjoint:

I'll echo @dankbydrew: GSC is not a particularly medical strain. You may find more relief from some of the CBD heavy strains bred for medical needs. The Sunshine Daydream from Bodhi Seeds is a well documented nerve pain mitigator and his 88G13HP crosses are very potent plants.

It sounds like you may also be looking for a plant with anti-inflammatory properties to alleviate some of the back pain you described. I've found OG Kush to be a great muscle relaxing strain that can ease some of the spasms accompanying back pain.

I would suggest looking into strains that have a proven record of alleviating pain and any effect you are after. If you find a strain that claims to help with things you need, make sure to find some reports/reviews that show it is effective in this regard and make sure the seeds are from the particular breeder in the reviews.

You'll see many different breeders offering the same strain name (GSC, White Widow, OG, etc.), but they are not all created equal. Think of it like asking 10 different chefs to make an apple pie. We can agree there will be a common theme (apples, cinnamon, crust) but each chef will end up with different variations on this theme. Some will use different spices, different types of apples, etc. and you may find that some are not as great as others. So while they are all called "apple pie" and follow a rough outline, they have their own character that can make or break it for you. So if you find and read great things about a specific breeder's strain, try to get their version that is proven effective for your goals.

Thanks for the well-wishes and good luck finding the plant that helps.
