Seed Production. A Tutorial

how many of your seeds do you have to plant in order to find the pheno you want? Im thinking of crossing a blue dream or jack herer with old time moonshine pollen and Im guessing that there will be undesireable plants along with good ones. What is the ratio?

when i cross 2 good strains ALL the seeds come out good.

Impregnated my White Widow's lower buds last night with Northern Lights pollen. I've read many posts by growers happy with their WWxNL plants and buds, so I'm really looking forward to the results in six or so weeks! :bigjoint:

as long as two good strains are crossed and have relatively different genetic backgrounds you will get f-1's which show uniform growth good vigor and equal traits from each parent. all plants should be good if the parents were. if you then cross the offspring you will get f-2's which will have much variability some will suck some will be good and some in between. thats where selection and stabilization begin.

OK, seems I'm more confused than I'd thought. I thought that there'd be more variability from the first round, and less the second (when choosing the favored traits to breed first, of course), etc. I'm just hoping to not have to buy seeds anymore, and of course producing something good enough to accomplish that goal. ;)

The mother (WW) and father (NL) were both very good plants. Well, the mother is still flowering, so I can't go by the final product yet. However, the buds are much more developed at three weeks of bloom than any other the others I've grown yet, and both parents had growth traits I really liked since sprouting. :D

there will be very little variability in the first seeds produced unless they are related in which you never really get f-1's in the first place. although if the strains are reasonably different the first seeds will be uniform f-1 seeds the only thing more stable than f-1's are extremely stable inbred lines worked over for generations or better yet clones. i would think ww and nl will produce f-1's when crossed as there reasonably different. beyond that is where great variability in phenos is shown once bred past the f-1 generation.

Great, thanks for the tips!! Will be trying this.. I have a question though - does pollinating one bud affect the rest of the plant? Does it stunt it's growth or lower the THC content in any way?? I'd like to pollinate a bud off of each of my three flowering girls, but don't want to do it if it will mess up the final outcome in any way..

Thanks again for the help!!!

First off, great tutorial FDD.

I found a male proudly displaying his balls to my babies. I want to keep him for pollen but not in my flower room. If I kept it outside the flower room just until the pods were ready to clip could I avoid pollinating my females?

Also, I fucked up and took clones from the male thinking it was female. They're gonna be males aren't they? I already know this but I hope to hear you tell me I'm wrong. I don't feel like trying to figure out which clones came from that plant.

you can keep it outside the room, it just needs some lgiht to grow the pods. CFL's may work.

male clones = male plants

last time I pollenated a branch it covered most all plants I soon found. Pollenating a branch do you suggest a clear baggie over the branch for a week? Being in a closet with good fan/wind I am sure doesn't help. Suggestions?

My male plant have me a good amount of pollen sacks, so I've collected them. Can I use any of the plant to make hash? Also, I think I may have hermed the plant by shock. It went about 3 days without water when it was in veg. It took about 2 weeks to bounce back. This was after I took clones from it. Is it possible that it hermed due to shock? And if so, does hermed clones result in hermed plants? Thanks again.
