Seed to Aero

I had a question how do you go about going from a fresh seed to an aero system? I was going to use coco to germinate them but then I would have to flush the roots to get rid of the coco fibers. let me know if there is an easier way. :peace:

what kind of aero? lotsa people just pop beans and put em in rockwool, and dump the rockwool in nettie pots with hydroton or whatever. seems poplular for aero/dwc setups

Thanks for the reply I figuered rockwool would be the best but it's not organic. I am using. Coco fiber and once the roots have shown I will flush the roots and place it in the aero system. Anyone sugest an organic nuit for aero gardens?

ive used perlite as a temporary meduim, it just washes right off and its ph neutral, and promotes rapid root growth becuase its quite airy

what is not organic about rockwool?

An organic compound is any member of a large class of chemical compounds whose molecules contain carbon. A few types of compounds such as carbonates, simple oxides of carbon and cyanides, as well as the Allotropes of carbon, are considered inorganic. The division between "organic" and "inorganic" carbon compounds while useful in organizing the vast subject of chemistry...is somewhat arbitrary. So rockwool isnt organic!!!!

Heres a quote from the MSDS(material safety data sheets) sheet on RockWool, "Rock wool is an amorphous silicate manufactured from rock. May contain a binder and an oil for dust suppression." end quote.

Mineral Wool means fibers made from Minerals orMetal oxides, be they synthetic or natural. In industry use Man Made Mineral Fibers generally refer to synthetic materials. This includes Fiberglass, Synthetic Fibers and RockWool, also known as stone wool. Mineral wool is an inorganic substance used for insulation, growing mediums and filtering.

But rockwool can be used for organic farming.

Rockwool is not considered organic, although it does make excellent use of natural resources: one cubic yard of rock becomes 37 cubic feet of wool! Rockwool can be reused for many crops. When you are finished with it, you can break it up and add it to your outdoor garden soil and the added aeration will be beneficial to your outside plants. Rockwool is inert, so it does not add or take anything away from plants. It can be used with organic nutrients.

I know I am just being picky. I think my cocofiber will work fine. I have used it before and I am used to it. Plus I heard rockwool could be irritating to handle. Thanks for all the responses.

If you go with coco, be sure to keep an eye on the intake filter of your pump. my sprayers clog easily with any pet hair or lint.

I used rockwool with no ill effects thus far. I cut my clones into rockwool and as soon as they rooted, they went straight into the aero unit. Plus I didnt have to worry about the coco fibers getting into the system or pump. Just my 2 cents. Take a look at my grow, there is a link in my sig, I have been takin pics all the way thru.

and btw, i have heard of people using the coco and sticking it right into the aero with no probs, but i have never tried, so i wont recommend

:clap:I love this answer.
But, also.. rockwool is the easiest for me to transplant into my aero system.. I have a 16 site homemade system. Once my clones develop roots I put them directly into my net pots (3 inch) I try to drop the roots in through the holes of the pot, then I surround the cube with hydroton

Isn't "organic aeropincs" kind of an oxy moron??

Aeroponics is the process of irrigation and the organic/ nonorganic is the nutrients used in the irrigation system.
There for you can have an organic aeroponic setup.
But what I have found is the rockwool cubes are far more organic then any of the foam inserts they have now.
As long as you are using organic nutrients it doesn't really matter what is holding the plant.
