Seeds vs Clones pros and cons

So far from what ive read I've literally had my cloning supplies out getting ready to clone......then reverted back to getting ready to germinate my seeds......then back to cloning.....and now I'm sprouting seeds again! Ha

I've ALWAYS been a clone guy. I ran a few seeds before but not to where I remember everything about them. Do they LST as easy as clones?

"Dilution", "genetic drift", loss of vigor can occur over time. Keep in mind that the lifespan/cycle of a cannabis plant (in nature) is annual and even shorter indoors. It isn't designed to survive for 2, 3, 5, 15 years, and all the while accumulating stress. Towards the end of that "Mothers" life, a clone is taken and kept as the new "Mother". This, after surviving years beyond it's intended lifespan, and hundreds/thousands/10's of thousands of clones cut from her. This new cut then, harbors all of the stress from the mother(s) that preceded.

This is the reason I do not keep "Moms", I cut clone from clone, and only from the most vigorous. I've had my oldest "keeper" for roughly 10 years. She is better than when I received her. I do know people that have been running strains for as long, but clone from "Mothers", and have witnessed the strains decline.

Look up "cumulative stress in plants", this isn't bs.

I grow from seed and I do everything from mainlining to lst, supercropping...etc etc....and they do awesome (no I'm not showing off...anyone can grow these...just showing they thrive)20160810_160218-1.jpg

I know. You said you had a "clone, from a clone, from a clone" for 3 years and it has stayed the same. I was just answering your "how long does it take?" and giving the reason that it hasn't changed in 3 years.

We're on the same page.

And I took clones from moms that were 7 years old without any drift so it worked for me, 14 day winter power failure killed em and that was the last of the Mohicans :(.

From a pure quality standpoint? Clones win, every time.

Cannabis quality goes downhill very quickly when nutrition is wrong. With a clone, you can find the exact day of harvest and exact nutrition requirements. You'll always be more accurate in this area with clones than seeds, seeds always have variation.

Fact of the matter is this argument will never end. Clone growers will defend same as seed growers will.
It's the same as the whole hydro vs. Soil
Or indoor vs outdoor.

If you really want to know you should read read read. Read several reputable sites wrote by reputable growers. Fact of the matter is we all have our own opinions and growing experience, so the answers will always differ.
I find it best to speak of my experience, and what happens in MY garden, not tell people what is better for them or in their garden.

Try it, works great.

From an inside perspective this may be very true. However outside the environment (especially for a Gorilla grow) is just to unpredictable. A week of rain for eg can set your harvest date back by over a week. Fires 100KLMs away can affect the growth rate. Unseasonable frost or cold weather. ( a very good friend of mine had his crop snowed on on Christmas day (middle of summer here)). This is the main reasons why outside growers have good and bad seasons and rely on big deep strong roots. Tap roots help this.

Huh, well I agree that doing clones can help dial in a strain. That is one reason I prefer clones, and the other is consistency for the type of grow I do which is trays when indoors. It's nice to know what the plant is going to do, and not stretch 4x it's hieght, damn you White Russian lol. I do find that clones work very well outdoors too :).

we all have different environments and needs so one size does not fit all. I can pick up some good ideals here but what i'm doing may not be the best approach for other growers

That's why it's best to relay what your experience is with what you've done and people pick out whatever helps their situation. To give broad based advice to everyone is just wrong IMO. Like if I had ok luck with an LED for example but had never done a HPS grow I would not be recommending them, I would show what I had accomplished though, that's just an example, I don't use LED :).

That's your argument? That a rooted plant is faster growing then a seed that has not germinated????? Well no shit!
If you took a plant from seed and had a clone same size and same number of nodes....sorry dude... tap root wins. Better root system means more nute uptake which will lead to faster more vigorous growth.
lol why would u have a clone the same size as a seedling ?
