Should I wash my buds? And how?

I believe people use a mix of H202 and water. Dip/shake the buds in one bucket, then I believe again in a water only bucket.

Bud rinsing.
Ok guys. Few days from harvesting and I really need a solid rinse method since I’m outdoors in Cali and some of you may know (outside of Cali) about the crazy fires we had. I’ve got a little bit of ash residue, bug/bird poop, dirt and Dust and I’m sure other undesirable Particles on the plant...

Man is it just the year of the spider mite?? I have been growing for over 10 years in many different locations and different... maybe non ideal environments and I have never had to deal with them like this year. I will be doing the same bud rinsing because of this which I swore I would never do. Who knows maybe this will force me into something that I will get in my routine and enjoy going forward.

Here are some results
H2O2 wash/Fresh water wash
Did a wash today with H202 warm water followed by a fresh cold water wash. Here were the results. As we can see the H202 took care of the bulk of the crap from the ash and such. The fresh water rinsed the 1st wash off and offered additional cleaning. But look how clear that second bucket...

Thank you. Definitely a nervous feeling dunking buds into water but it is much needed to get these pests off I don't think they'll taste very good

Dont be nervous. THC is not water soluble. It wont mess up your buds.

I wash them at harvest in a 3 bucket system. First 5 gal bucket with warm water, 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of lemon juice. 2nd 5gal bucket has warm plain water and then a 3rd dunk in the last 5gal bucket with cool clean water. Dunk and swirl 20-30secs in each bucket. Avoid making contact with the bucket. Shake excess, repeat steps for next two buckets. Hang to dry like normal.

No mold if properly, trimmed and hung.
I suggest washing all outdoor grows.
My method is a little effort but worked better than expected.
A tote filled with tap water at 105F. Held by a propane torpedo heater.
1 gallon of water to 16 oz H2O2.
Soak for 15-20 minutes.
Rinse in tap water in a 5 gallon bucket. Rinse again in another 5 gallon bucket.
Gently swing by stems to remove excess water prior to hanging.
Provide space between stems and adequate airflow. NP.
Change rinse water after it gets a color or coating. Change often.

I use baking soda and lemon juice but washing isn't a problem even for dense buds--dense buds were living before you chopped them and had moisture circulating.
if you're gentle, washing is great. I don't think you really loose smell either; i think it seems to smell less right after you finish because you've been standing with all of your buds (nose deaf) more than anything. once they dry and cured they smell incredible again.
I'd say always give your crop a rinse--just like you would anything from your garden before you put it in your body.

Get yourself a shop vac and vacuum those suckers off next time. They coast on breezes. The shop vac will send them on a nice vacay

I find the bud wash is only best for PM or mold.
For pests like spider mites that i had to deal with for the first time from a mistake of bringing in an outdoor palm, i hit them with a narrow vacuum directly on the buds (hovering) and then when hung to dry upside down, all the thousands of mites will come to the top of the line where the stem will be. Use a wet napkin to keep them from spreading from there. They will climb up the hangers and just wipe them dead. Best way IMO

This ^ - I had to harvest a plant early a couple of weeks ago. The Borg did exactly that - crawled up to the string and that was the first time I saw any kind of webbing from them. I just hovered my vacuum over the buds and worked my way up to the hanging string and sucked em' all away. I am a newbie in this realm of growing, and I think I'm going to try the bud wash on my next harvest - at least half washed and half not. That way, I can see and experience the difference between the two.
