I tried a cover crop once, wasn't good at it. Rather than developing that skill, I opted for black plastic to keep soil moist and break the gnat cycle. Helps retain heat under an LED, too.Anybody do a cover crop on their SIPs? Gonna get mine growing again as it is tent season for me. Covers are kind of a pain imo and I don’t want my soil exposed so thought maybe a cover crop would be neat. I used coir tops on my last grow (not sip) and didn’t mind them either.
I used to run no till in an earthbox. I would do a cover crop after harvest, let it grow out a bit....Anybody do a cover crop on their SIPs? Gonna get mine growing again as it is tent season for me. Do the roots grow deep enough? Or am I missing the mark? Or is the soil in all just at the appropriate place where the plant life up top can take advantage of them?I tried a cover crop once, wasn't good at it. I really only suggest it, if you're doing no till.Do the roots grow deep enough? Or am I missing the mark? Or is the soil in all just at the appropriate place where the plant life up top can take advantage of them?

I appreciate the advice. I highly doubt I will but was just a thought. I don’t have the balls or experience to run no till YET. Well I have the balls but doesn’t need I gotta use emI really only suggest it, if you're doing no till.
You don't really need either for no till. No till is basically just following nature. Use nature as your guide.I appreciate the advice. I highly doubt I will but was just a thought. I don’t have the balls or experience to run no till YET. Well I have the balls but doesn’t need I gotta use em
If it were me, I would probably top dress 3x as much as they recommend, but only do it every 3 weeksAnyone using Build a soils new feeding schedule? Wondering if I need to be top dressing every week??
huh... your reasoning? If it were me, I would probably top dress 3x as much as they recommend, but only do it every 3 weeks
It's less work and in organic soil I can't see it making a significant difference. Most dry organic ferts like Espoma, Gaia Green, etc instruct you to top dress once a month.huh... your reasoning?
