People can tell the difference between my COB LED bud and HID grown from across the room- while it's still in the jar.

If for no other reason, you'll like COB LED for growing plants just because of the quality improvement.

Every plant I've grown under them is better. No exceptions.

You will soon appreciate it's value and wish you had one earlier.

Oh and the first charge will last a long time. I have taken over 2000 reading so far and it is still on 3 bars for charge.

I suggest don't messing around with the hold button and using the memory storage right away as it takes a little bit to get used to. After you press hold to store the reading, you have to press up to get to the next available memory slot and record your next reading with the hold button.

It does work well if you have a grid of 100 points set up, you can number them and quickly get readings from each point. Shut off is after 2 mins of inactivity and I have just been able to get a lamp done (100 points) without it shutting off once or twice because of my speed.

My local energy utility uses a Licor LI-250, and a LI-190 for field measurements. How do these compare to that?

Theres a video here somewhere that shows a bunch of hf meters next to a li cor and they are all reading very similar numbers,so close i was like fuck it im buying one lol.
It reads up to 10,000 umols and covers 400 to 700nm so should be fine for what i wanted.i still may buy a apogee520 if i see one on sale

If they're all precision instruments then they damn well better be getting the same numbers, right?!

Over all they are pretty close... nothing crazy different. If you pause the video they are almost 10PPF off most of the time... but the Apogee is usually 20-30PPF off or more.

Got a few more bars finished and hung,just need to tighten up my wiring and figure out dimmers.im at 34 cobs now and have taken down 4 x 600w hps so a swapped 2400w hid for about 1100w cobs

i dont think measuring sunlight is the problem, its the LED response and how they weight reds and blues differently. new generations are much better. the hydrofarm, new apogee, and the licor sensors are all in the $200-400 range at this point

The Hydrofarm used in the video was $130, I have the same exact one.

As I understand, Apogee uses a correction calculation to compensate for wavelengths the sensor doesn't pick up. Regardless, as long as it is within an acceptable range, it is still a pretty decent choice for gardeners.

Happy so far with the hydrofarm. Also, weighs less than a Li-Cor if that matters. Fits in a pocket easily.

I did a side by side using the Hydroponics Hut X5-500 vs the Amare SE-450.
Bought the HH mktd as a pro-series light & I was impressed w/ the ratios shown on the spectral graph based on what I learned. Burple but still full spectrum having just enough in the greens, so I thought.
Well, needless to say, the HH got absolutely spanked by the Amare. Would've been laughable if I didn't waste $800 on the light & lost another $2000 in yield differance.
This made me lose all faith in Burple lighting. Sure, there's much better burples out there but they're being replaced by white or enhanced white by now.
For example: BML's Grow-Max spectrum, replaced by FluenceBio's new enhanced white spectrum, PhysioSpec. The owners openly admitted to the Grow-Max Burple spectrum being wrong & the cause of bleaching.
Full spectrum white light or enhanced white will smash on Burple. Can't find any evidence to say differant.
It's good to see side by sides but the grower must inteand or expect to loss yields as I did.
