Small Buds in week 6 (GDP)

Hi guys, I came across RIU from a review one of the members made on another site, I saw that the community posts regularly, so thought I would try my luck.

I have
  1. 2x single bulb 315-watt dimmable CMH lamps in a 1.5x1.5 metre tent.
  2. The strain is Gran Dady Purple which is in its 6th week of flower (4x plants).
  3. My RH is set to 55%
  4. Temp ranges from 22-12 degrees Celsius (which my research states the strain is optimised for).
  5. Im running the entire APTUS nute range.
  6. Utilising SCROG method.
  7. I have a pH doser that is set to 6.2pH
  8. My feeding is on a daily timer
  9. Lights are roughly 600mm from the canopy.
So with those details in mind, my issue is I am not happy with the size of the colas, they measure roughly 20mm wide (across). I feel they should be MUCH larger. The trichome production is there, just not the size. (I guess that's why they call it laughf ).

Could it be due to my defoliation in the second week of flowering after the stretch? I did notice my leaves starting to "Tacho" so I dimed my lights to 215 watts.
A PPFD meter is not something I have invested in where I am yet, so I used an app that utilises the phone sensor. Clearly, the app must be wrong as I had the lights @ 315W and the leaves still showed early signs of the tacho. This is when I dimmed my lights even though the app said the PPFD was in the green at 315w

Please help guys?

Pics would help. Wait another week or 2 and see if the size dose not improve your right in the window where my nug normally "pop"
How much cropping did you do?? Scrog method is not ment to produce the largest colas but a consistently even canopy of more smaller bud sites

CMH are reeeeeaaallly intense lights. Even though your ambient temp is 22c/about 71°f, the surface temp of your leaves could be much higher, which might mean just raise the light. Ideally CMH should be a good 2-3 feet away from the canopy.

Are you referring to Flavinols?
No, i was referring to overall potency. Frost/trichomes are a stress response, so properly applied stress at proper intervals can hugely benefit the overall potency of your harvested plants. But, as mentioned, keep the stress in check or it'll have a diminishing effect

Yes, I can understand the uptick in Trichome production, as Trichomes are a defence mechanism. However, in my understanding, the genes that trigger that response, are normally signalled via a physical action, Eg biting, chewing pests. This is understandable, due to the fact a trichome is a physical thing,....so too are bugs.
