So I think I have thieves patrolling my neighborhood...

3 stories spread out over the past month to a month & 1/2.

It all started when I witnessed 2 guys in a black or very dark colored 4 door sedan (couldn't say which make and model as my street has horrible lighting) going through my neighbors car. they came in w/ their headlights off. pulled over halfway around the corner. got out (dont know if it was running or not)..go over to my neighbors truck..use what i believe was a tool they use to unlock ppl's cars who lock their keys in...the name is on the tip of my tongue but i cant remember.

anyway im not sure if they took anything in the end but they got all the way inside the car!

Fast forward to two nights ago. Im coming home late (1-1:30am) and a dark colored sedan turns on my street (coming from the opposite direction so they weren't following me) ahead of me. I see them turn...as i get up to the turn they have just circled around inside a court off my street and stopped at the entrance of the court...they allow me to pass then turn behind me going the same way (my street is one long big dead end so i felt like i was being followed at that point) as i get up near my house i have second thoughts about pulling into the garage as they are right up behind me.

I decide to make the last turn before the dead end (it just loops around back onto the dead end street) w/o signaling really suddenly but calmly if that makes sense. anyway they follow me all the way around to the dead end street but very slowly behind me. I get back onto the dead end then go back the way i came i turn onto the main road. they too are going the same direction so i pretty much decided it was time to gtfo of there so i hit the gas and high tailed it. they went the same way but i ended up losing them during the time they were trailing so far back (stalking their prey it felt like)

fast forward to 2nite. I get home late again. take a quick shower...take dirty clothes to the washer in the garage...i hear the sound of a car going by slowly outside so i out of the side door of my garage and look and what do i see? a dark colored 4 door sedan driving w/ their headlights out.

I heard another car just now & looked only to find it was two cars following each other closely (neither was a black sedan) and their lights were on so thats probably nothing just ppl leaving a friends house or something.

either way this area is a shithole and due to my living situation i can't bring my gun here so its w/ my bro...so if i ever needed it due to a break in or something i'd be pretty fuk'd (and its happened to both my neighbors already in the past year or two)

thank god i dont grow @ home.

thoughts? discuss? something?

You could set up surveillance so you have an eye outside at all times. If it continues maybe go to the cops....but i doubt they will do much but you never know.. you said its a bad area? Id be sure i had some kind of weapon... maybe tell your neighbors about it too

*walks over to neighbors house*

You: "I've been noticing a mysterious car driving around with the headlights out and I'm getting like totally super freaked out!"

Neighbors: "Uhhh, yeah.. Our cat ran away so we've been looking around the neighborhood, we drive slow and the lights are off so we don't scare him away if we find him"

You:

Tell your neighbors. On second thought tell the noisiest neighbor.
i did. they didnt seem worried even though they had THEIR car broken into by these people...apparently they didnt end up taking anything because i guess they had nothing worth stealing but they didnt seem to care about it. i do though. i wish i could bring my gun home. at least that way i know im ready 4 whatever.

When I see that, I call in a suspicious vehicle report to the local police...we have a neighborhood watch like many cities. Just tell them you have witnessed the vehicle casing houses, they'll send out a few patrol cars and won't even bother knocking on your door.

security lights with motion sensors might be an idea? at least it might deter them from trying to break into your property if they're trying to stay low key

happens everywhere man. When I used to live on the military base people would target the houses cause its like a small town and everyone leaves shit like bikes and BBQs unlocked. One time I was coming home when I wasn't living on the base, and a bunch of kids had the door open to one of my neighbour's 60s mustangs. I parked at home, went over and locked it and closed the door. Next day my car was fucked with. Not much cops can do it only takes a second to steal something.

bring your gun home anyway. remember the supreme court has ruled the police have no legal obligation to protect you. the only one responsible for your protection and your family is you. look it up. i think it was in 1982.

the motion lights are great, and a cheap webcam security system can catch anything on video.

My brother told me today that a long term neighbor of his was hit and emptied out. He has a vacation trailer when he left with it they knew he was gone. Took everything. He does custom paint jobs in his garage, they cleaned that out too. In the house I understand it's like he just moved out. They even took the dogs dish.

The way his house sits on the lot with the attached garage you can't see a thing. The guy thought security lights were obnoxious. He is now storing his trailer offsite.

i would but i have a 12 gauge thats not too easy to conceal. im thinking of saving some money and getting a handgun. if not for the high price tag (500-700 USD for a decent one) i would have already purchased one. My 12gauge is legally registered to me and i own a nice pack of buckshots. my roommates don't like my shotty because it "sprays everywhere" which "could be dangerous to the people living here" which is true but i wouldnt think buckshots could go through two sets of walls into my roommates room in the event someone broke in.

Im honestly not looking for trouble but at the same time i live in a crime infested city with a bunch of young punks that think they are "gangsters". id like to catch them breaking in w/ my shotty and let em know they are gangsters...just a bunch of pussies.

im gonna try and talk my roommates into a rifle or a handgun for safety purposes. im not scared of a shootout...im afraid of being on the receiving end of a home invasion with nothing to hold onto buy my dick. that scares the shit out of me (putting my life in another mans hands).

Cops? What cops? I haven't seen any in my area for years.
exactly. where i live (a dead in road) there is practically NO cops in my area EVER unless they are responding to call which isnt very often. my neighborhood was quiet and safe when i first moved in (so much so that you could leave the doors unlocked all day long without a worry in the world).

Why not report it when you see them? If the cops start rollin your neighbor hood they won't
i did the time they broke into my neighbors truck. the cops showed up less than 5 min after the left. it was very unfortunate. imo these guys are semi pros...i watched them pull in without headlights on and part 6-7 houses up the street before walking up to the neighbors truck. i was originally outside in my backyard smoking a J when i seen them approach. i quickly backed into my house and ran to the window for a better look without being noticed. got on the phone called the cops...they finally showed too late and they left.

cops took a report...left...then 10 mins later the cops left and they returned to look into one of their other cars...called again...they left...then the cops came another 5 mins after they left. it was very frustrating.

id rather just have my gun at home...walk outside...point it at them and tell them to get on the ground before i blow their face off...call the cops...wait for them to come...then haul them off to jail.

thats how i wish i could have dealt with it but i refuse to go outside and assert myself in the middle of the night (3am) against two strangers wearing masks...fuck that.
