So wait, hydroponic grown MJ has the same potency as soil grown MJ?

OK, say that this is true. Why are there tons of people that are growing hydroponics when soil is easier and takes up less room. I understand that the growing period is shortened but unless you are selling a lot or a ginormouse pothead(quite possible), why would you grow hydroponics?

For my 2nd grow I might switch to soil since I don't have to worry about reseviors taking up room when I could fit more plants in my closet if this is true.
 
i switched to soil on my 2nd grow and was happy i did i dont think id switch back soil is so easy and you dont have as much to worrie about plus it seems like the soil really helps keep temps down dont have to worrie about a pump going out and if you over or under feed a bit the soil acts like a buffer i think the downside is dealing with the soil buying/disposeing and you cant leave it unattended as long and it might be slower/smaller but for me with so few plants the amount of soil i deal with isnt bad but if you had alot i could see why hydro would clealy be better also like you said if you were selling the turn around time would be better in hydro i think also bigger grows just filling the rez would save alot of time compared to hand watering all thoes plants but thats just what iv gathered so far through 2 and a half grows im sure theres other reasons
 
Potency is in strain although, obviously conditions have an effect aswell.. I'm not sure how hard it is to keep hydro plants under good conditions but shortened grow period is a fairly big deal imo.. Even though I'm not moving any (I do enjoy my marijuana in high amounts) I would still love to shorten the grow period.. However its not exactly an option at the moment ;)
 
I grew hydro for about a year and was getting 8-12 ounces every 3 weeks. The smoke was killer. What I didnt like was having to constantly watching nute levels, ph, pumps etc............... I am just too lazy for that.

I am currently doing a grow in soil and is like comming back home. I really like playing in the dirt. I always grew in soil before, but had no idea what I was doing. I didnt know MH from HPS from PMS. So I never got any kind of yield to speak of. And I thought curing was something that doctors are supposed to do. Doing the hydro grows taught me a lot about the basics of growing that apply to soil as well. July should be a very happy time around my house this year. I stagger planted so I can have a perpetual harvest. With all the different strains, I should be harvesting at least one plant every week or so. When I pull one out, I put another one in.

What size buckets are those homegrown? Is that your final pot? Looking good btw ;)
 
I cut 2 holes in the sides opposite of each other about an inch square. I cut them an inch or so above the bottom. It is like a hempy bucket.

I get mine at Lowes for about $2.50 each.
 
On a side note, I have heard organic soil produces the best tasting bud?

Oh and Riteaid sells 5 gallon plastic flower pots for $3.
 
also not mentioned as much I think the best part of soil is low initial start up cost, the soil buffering PH, and I feel comphortable leaving my grow room to run for 3 or 4 days at a time by itself.
 
well i grew 2-3 soil grows with basic nutes and Mh lights.I decided to take it more serious. In my area HYDRO was what everyone talked and talks about. Purp this and kush that and i see prices at 50 to 100 an eighth! I bought a complete system from Stealth Hydro.
QUick setup, easy nutes, humoungous plants!My tap water is 6.5 ph , I add my nutes in premeasured amounts, and the only reason i visit my ladies is to raise the lights!
They grow rapid.I like the ease of bubbleonics and the hydro it produces. Its not an argument of which is better, they both do there thing but hydro for me is where its at!

Those plants look great. Maybe you should throw a potted (organic soil) plant in there sometime and compare the taste, would be great to know if different genetics can taste different based on mediums.
 
Soil gives better flavor and is more forgiving
Hydro gives faster growth and more yield
Coco/pro mix is similar to hydro (coco/pro mix has zero nutrition so its a neutral medium thats dependent on water for nutrients)

Potency is determined by the strain not the growing method.

hydro may cut down your grow period by about a week or ten days total.. not all that much imho.. but where hydro really comes into its on over soil is in yeild.. you will never get the same yeilds, conditions permitting, from soil vs hydro.. my friend on this site got 19 ounces from one apple jack plant grown in dwc under a 250 watt hps.. i could never dream of getting that kind of yeild growing in soil ..
but like others have said, soil will give you a better taste over hydro, and organic will give the best yet.. what can you do? i prefer soil for the reasons that its more forgiving than hydro and although i may get decreased yeilds, i think the quality of smoke is ultimately better..
 
Hi dude, Soil is ok, I mean its how nature intended it ... however, now that man (dedicated growers) have come up with a whole host of hydroponic solutions it seems petty (to me) to opt for the easier option whilst the hydroponic results are so clear and obvious. Soil grown ladies tend to grow a lot slower, shorter and sometimes have an earthy garden grassy taste to their buds! In hydro a little effort goes a long way :) your ladies will grow rapidly, bigger and fuller, and are easy to flush for a very pure BUD taste, in my opinion you have more control as to your ladies diet (nuits) and dont have to worry about watering, only misting - when you feel like it through out VEG stage, and checking the res for maintaining water levels every week or so. A lot has to do with personal taste, and how youve learnt to grow from your friends etc etc.. I mean if you ve learnt in soil and have been getting good results then your less likely to throw caution to the wind and jumping in at the deep end with hydroponic and vice versa but if you keep an open mind and experiment then hydro will 9 times out of 10 shine trough as the definitive winner :) I wasn't happy with the results I got from soil, so for my 2nd and 3rd and so on grows I have been a dedicated Hydro/DWC grower and have had perfect results everytime, thanks for listening to my 2 cents worth, hope this helps - STELTHY

Most of what this dude says is true except on the taste section.. Hydro can sometimes have a shitty chem. taste "IF" the plants aren't flushed dried and cured propperly, however if you do this right, and its not hard you can gain better tasting buds for the fruits of your labour :) - STELTHY
 
hydro is way faster ya its more work but worth it imo.
the only soil i ever did brought bugs into my house .. fuckin soil
 
im not going to touch that argument but i can say i grow in soil easyer to correct your mistakes just flush like toilet when you make a shit

and all cup competetors and big boys use soil why is my question to you

You will never see a winner in this type of debate, because both sides are right. Both ways work if you do it right. On the other hand, neither way works very well if you dont do it right! It always has been, and always will be, a matter of what works for you. And the ability to see that what is right for you might not be right for the other guy.

As I stated earlier, I have grown both ways and they have both done very well for me so far. I want to eventually be able to do both at the same time. Find 3 or 4 strains that are high yielding, fast growing and strong and do them in hydro. Then in the second flower room do soil grows for special strains and for breeding and the like. It would be nice to be able to grow some long flowering sativas without getting the grow cycle all screwed up in the hydro systems. That is what I am shooting for when I build my new grow op inside the barn on my land. I am moving out there later this year and will be kicking my growing up a notch.
Bottom line is, it doesnt matter how you do it as long as you do it. Overgrow Big Bro!!!
 
hydro is a lot faster in the veg period. you can veg a plant in soil, for 8 weeks and veg a plant 3-4 weeks in a hydro system, if you know what you are doing, and will be the same size. also the soil takes in and holds a lot of the nutrients in it, unlike coco. the soil will take nutrients and not let the roots have it. in hydro, it goes from the canister to the water then to the roots. no middle man to deal with like soil. im growing in soil now, but im going to do a side by side comparison with my next grow, half soil, half bubbleponic. check out the dif yields and such. same veg time and everything. looking for double the yield. 1.5-2 grams a watt in the bubble and half that in the soil. which would be .75-1 gram a watt.
