So when people say they use hydrogen peroxide...

Do they mean the kind for cuts you get at most stores, or would it be necessary for a person to purchase special higher strength hydrogen peroxide, like that used for haircolor and what not?

Didn't realize I needed to say for what...lol. To use on my plants. It is supposed to boost the oxygen and just all around help out the roots, as well as killing many anaerobic bacteria (the bad ones) I was going to try it just because, and wanted to know if the usually 3% would be alright...

H202 is for hydro, aero, and bubbleponics. If you use it in soil it will kill all the benifitial bacteria your plant needs to process nitrogen and other elements. Sterile soil is not by any means a good thing when you look at how a soil based root system works and responds to nutrients. Honestly i wouldent even use the stuff for hydro. All of the common and uncommon root diseases and problems can be fixed with a copper based fungicide. Epsoma makes a great copper soap and its very cheap.

I am not having any issues, I just came across a thing that said you could use it and that it would actually help your aerobic bacteria...which are the beneficial ones, but that it would kill the anaerobic bacteria---which are bad...I think I just might not use it...lol. THanks guys.

H2O2 is indiscriminate in killing off bacteria. It doesn't know aerobic from anaerobic. Never use it in an organic soil grow!! . Hydro or soil with chemicla ferts, it can have it's uses to get oxygen to the roots, but the better alternative would be to transplant into better soil! Always use the 3% first aid kind, unless you are disinfecting, then go for the higher concentrations

When growers are referring to it, they're talking about the high strength peroxide from the hydro store. Talk to them about it, and make sure to mention how many gallons your res is, and what your intended purpose is. Some people use it to prevent or to reverse root rot, some for extra oxygen. I only use it to clean my system between turns. It's much safer to get an oxygen pump and an airstone from any pet store for fish tanks.

If you do buy and use the high strength stuff, be careful, it burns your skin if it gets on you, and it's not pleasant.

I use 29% solution and as above poster said do be careful. It causes skin bleaching that goes away in about 30 min. Doesn't feel good...but as for it's effectiveness, I love h2o2! It keeps my reservoir crystal clear AND breaks down into dissolved oxygen. For chem hydroponic users, it's a no brainer. I would not use it in soil however.
