i have a sativa that yields more for the same area, but isn't exactly a sog plant. lots of branches, lots of 6-9'' buds; more a scrog with no screen...that one i grow a bit larger, then train into a vine-like canopy.

yes, i prune the bottom 2/3 on the indicas, bottom 1/3 on the sativa (more branches = more yield on that one, it's lanky with few leaves, so branches get lots of light).
in sog, all variables matter. lighting, veg time, nute program, spacing, etc... you have low ends, and high ends, depending on how you go. this is why yield is usually estimated by the number of lights, not the number of plants.
