Thanks for the info, I'll just keep posting until then. LOL How many people do you have to help trim at harvest? Must be a nightmare! I love growing but hate endless trimming.
just me and momma trimmed over 30 lbs the last season in ca in 2 weeks with no problem in a yurt but when we grow a full season we use a few extra hands to handle alot of bud and i just dry and package buds and don't trim myself check out the" starting the babies for summer crop " thread and there are some different strains that worked good in maine swamps on there.

Getaway,

I'm just curious, what was the cut off date when you were in Maine? What I mean is when was the frost strong enough to do damage. I remember on year when we were trimming and around 9 o'clock at night I went out to cut another basket full of colas and found ice forming on all my plants. I went into panic mode and cut them all down and brought 50 to 60 plants inside and then went round the clock in shifts trimming for days. It was a nightmare because they all started to wilt and got all stuck together making trimming a horror show.

I normally only cut what can be trimmed in a couple hours to prevent the "Wilt Factor" but that "Night of the Ice" was something I'll never forget nor will the poor bastards that had to deal with me through that episode. People don't realize how things can suddenly go wrong on you at the last minute. You can spent a whole season doing everything perfect and still screw it up during the harvest. I've witnessed people destroy their crops by making mistakes during the trimming, drying/curing process.

I use to hear people say that they "love" trimming weed, ya, a half pound can be a fun experience but when your trying to process pounds and pounds it can be darn right hellish.

I can totally relate to that. The night I cut down a whole field all at once due to ice forming everyone in my house was telling me not to worry about it. "Your gonna sell it anyways so whats the big deal if a little ice forms?" The big deal for me was pride. Always been my downfall. I take a huge amount of pride in everything I do and do the best I can at everything. The thought of having all the full trichrome heads be broken of by ice was unthinkable. My friends were all telling me that nobody would know the difference but it didn't ease my mind at all and I couldn't take the chance and allow it to happen.

It's funny that people think all growers do is drop some seeds on the ground in May and sell bags of weed in November and make all that money with no effort. Sometimes it can be the hardest job you'll absolutely love.

They don't know about the preparations and the before dawn stealth missions, the constant care given all season and the nightmares that can be associated with harvest. Its way to much work for most people to even comprehend. Especially for the growers who grow it with love and care. These plants become members of the family. When a plant has an issue it effects us. A broken branch, causes us stress. A friend of mine used to tell me that I paid more attention to my plants than I did my dog. My reply was "my dog don't get me high" LOL

People need to appreciate the people who take the risk of growing the plant they love to smoke. Growers put their freedom on the line and their very lives in some places. Until they experience a season of growing they will never understand.

To those who are brave enough, motivated enough or just plain crazy enough to grow I salute you all!

Do you worry about flyovers? The Feds don't play nice. You make sure your careful. Sometimes it doesn't matter how careful you are when somebody drops a dime on you!

That's true for the most part but many of us have that inner circle of people who no matter how hard we might wish otherwise do know what we do. Many of us have friends and family that are such a big part of our lives it is impossible to keep them in the dark. I trust complete strangers more than some people in my own family and with damn good reason.

I've become an isolationist for the last 3 years. I have severed all ties to all people except those who live with me. There is a reason I haven't smoked in the last 3 years. At first it was forced on me by drug testing but that is finally over. I will not contact anyone from my past ever again. I lost all faith in people who I thought were my friends only to find out that when I needed people the most there was nobody there. I have disappeared off the grid as far as people are concerned and I intend to keep it that way. I have been growing for 25 years myself and became "known" for growing awesome weed. This wasn't by choice. I'd smoke people up and they'd ask were the weed came from. Idiot friends would love to brag about the talent I tried to keep hidden.

Lots of people love to live vicariously through people that grow weed. They love to brag about things they have no right to brag about. As if being friends with a grower earns them some special considerations. The people that sold my stuff loved to brag. There was no way for me to avoid it back then. I worked with a bunch of tokers who were also my best friends so there was no way to keep things secret. Sometimes just being successful is to much for some people to be able to handle. I used to be an optimist before my world was shattered.

That was then, this is now. I now have the ability for a "Do Over". I will not repeat the mistakes made over a lifetime again. I have NO FRIENDS, nobody to ask me questions I must try to dodge answering. I'm "NorthernMan" from New Hampshire maybe, or maybe southern Maine or northern Massachusetts trying to remain anonymous.

Anyone who grows needs to learn one thing: Treat people like mushrooms, "keep them in the dark and feed them Bullshit!"

I just found a vile with 12 seeds from a strain I'd been working on for years. There old, as in 5 years old but they look fine. Nothing sucks like losing a strain you created and spent the time back-crossing.

I'll be delighted if even one seed grows, it will be the return of "CORTEZ, The Killer", If I could only find a vile of "Powderfinger" seeds.

You never know what you'll find when you dig through old boxes and storage containers, its like I'm on a treasure hunt. Wish I had a map so I'd know where to look...LOL
