spray vs bubbler cloners

In order to do this, you have to make holes in the res and plumb both the inlet and outlet of the pump and thats just more spots to potentially leak. Plus thats more work and $$$ to just do the same thing a bubble cloner does naturally without the special plumbing or heat issues.
This is an excellent example of when to apply the KISS method! You're just asking for problems and maintenance with an aero-cloner. Unless you buy an actual aero-cloner reservoir, but they're really pricey.

I was always curious about whether water spraying directly onto the young roots, once they had roots hanging, had an impact on their growth. I like the more gentle approach of bubbles creating mist in the air that gently lands on the stems and roots.

Another reason I like bubbles is because I like to use RootTech clone gel when I cut them. The sprayers wash it right off, but it stays on way longer with bubbles. I've gotten roots in less than a week with that method!

Bubble Cloners are going to be cheaper, easier to build, less of a hassle to maintain, not prone to leaks, and is one of the quickest ways to root.

Those are just my opinions. Hope that helps.

Here is my 29 site DIY cloner Not pretty but it works for me
Cost pvc pipe and fittings $15
EZ Clone Sprayer Nozzle $10 but i did buy over 200 of them.
collars and net pots are 25c each
Storage bin $10
Air pump $30 I use the same one to brew my tea
pond pump $40

The top holes are 50mm I bought the hole saw bit off of ebay for $3
View attachment 4045941

With collars. Next build will have grommets for the air hose and power
View attachment 4045948

I cut the collars in half and the bottoms of of 2" net pots. I found the thick collars didn't work for me.

Hopefully this helps or inspires you or someone else on your next build.
Cheers

that's percect

great idea on the net pots

Definitely go with a bubble Cloner! You'll end up with leaks from the lid seams with the sprayers. The bubble cloners work awesome! Bubbles popping on the surface of the water create micro droplets that land on the stems, and keep them moist. One doesn't work faster or better than the other. It's just the leaking that's a huge pain in the ass! Plus, clogging emitters.
I hadn't thought of that, good point

how high above the water line do you set the clone?

Having bought a 24 site turbo cloner I would like to say that it worked perfectly. 100% rooted in 10 days. However I only did this to make an order for a friend whom then reneged on the deal. what a looser, anyways 275$ down the drain. When orders come in money up front!!!!! my new law

Before this I made a bubble cloner out of a clear plastic Tupperware. It had 8 sites but was initially really ineffective. I quickly realized that light was the enemy. I wrapped it in panda film and boom, roots quickly exploded. My number one suggestion is to make it light proof. Get a thick walled black bucket. Eliminate all light leaks because the roots don't like it. My first run in the diy bubbler the roots came out within the collars themselves(no light there).

As far as the bubbler water level... I used to have the stems in the water so they could drink but the roots always seemed to grow from above the water line. If you don't change the water after a week the submerged part of stem can start to rot. Also the cutting may grow roots slower if submerged due to less of a need for water. My turbocloner has the water line fairly far from the neoprene puck level. My thoughts are that the stem should be above the water level. However I have cloned successfully with both approaches.

As far as the powerful jets smashing the stems and harming roots...well i was worried about this too. the jets spray really hard. No problems though.

The real key to any type of cloning is to leave them alone. I remember pulling my clones out of the rock wool to see if roots have started. reapplying cloning gel. All sorts of stupidity.
Also use one of the machines, sprayer or bubbler. Don't waste your time with humidity domes and misting the leaves and rock wool. The machines work perfectly without the added humidity domes. The plants may wilt initially but they prop back up in a day.

Does anyone live in ottawa canada? need some powerplant clones? send a message. have breeder tin DPSC.

Yep, like I said, an inch or two below the stems. With aero-cloners, the sprayers emit so much water that the stems are usually completely dripping water. Might as well just have the cuttings sitting in a glass of water. That's another reason I like bubble Cloners. The stems are wet, but not dripping.

Once the clones have rooted, I let the roots grow into the water. But I always keep the waterline below the stems.

First time in coco. I had some serious ph problems because i wasnt flushing them correctly. Now i put day old tap water in at a ph of 7.5 to try to balance it out. now my run off is a 5.9 opposed to a 4.9-5.1. any way here is the pics. WP_20171121_001.jpg

They used to be quite yellow. The older growth had many deficiencies due to ph lockout. Problem is fixed now. This will be the first run so i dont know what it would be like.

Are you using CaliMagic with your Coco grow? Coco needs it.
