I would use the flouro till my third leaves start to form then throw them under the 400w your growth rate will by far out perform flouros. just ease the light from 18-20 inches from the plant down to as close as you can without burning over the course of a week. once you hit the sweet spot where the temp for the plants isnt too high but the light is close enough for awesome growth. you will see magic happen.

dude, some kids have no clue what there talkin about. but some people here do. ill tell u one thing, those flouros will definitly be enough to start those plants off. they will actually be an amazing light source for a good few weeks. just one thing, keep them about 2 inches away from the tops, and keep them in a confined space so the reflected light can be absorbed by the plant too. then try and get a fan, blow it around the plants or even oscillate it. never blow them directly on the plants. thatshould be enough cooling for the mh/hps lamp.

SIGH 400 watt mh/hps 2 foot distance so keep it 2 n 1/2 foot away for seeds put 1 under the tard lighting and 1 under mh/hps and ull see wat im takin about use ur hid lighting i couldnt disagree more with all the ppl in here saying use it when ya have a hid light its LUDACRIS lol

what different things ????????.
there are incandesent flouro tubes (no good).
of pure cfls(both have different light spectrums).
the lamp spectrum matters and if i did not i would be better using car headlamps to grow with

cannot remember reading a post stating incandescent was the same as fluro. fluro tubes of the correct spectrum are fine. incandescent tubes have no place in growing. anyway mate i would go with the 400 straight from seedling. i do the same with a 600. you just need to keep an eye on them in the early days.
