Submersible pump for watering with wand

I am looking to design a simple reservoir with pump attatched to a hose line and water wand.

Now I am confused because the pumps I was looking at, does not (as I was told by the seller) turn on/off automatically when opening the wand. Is that fine or not?

Maybe I just need to plug in the pump whenever using it, then open the wand? Or need a different type of pump feature?

Interested hearing people's experience with those too, we used two people, one watering while the other checked the reservoir level and turned off the pump when almost empty.

Make sure to get a good quality hose that won't bend 90°and block the water flow.

Come to think of it, those water wands aren't they designed for connecting to a tab and using the pressure of the water ?
 
Why not complete it with a manifold and some 5mm tubing,? once it's made you have cheap reliable hassle free feeding.

If I'm watering manually I use the timer off/on switch, the pumps are micro jet 450s adjustable flow, sump feed they can almost completely empty a saucer.
 
Yes a water wand is designed for connecting to a tap and using the pressure of the water. I will just water by hand from a water wand.

Or I will have an wifi irrigation controller attached to the reservoir. It will turn on and off and feed the manifold/drip lines at the appropriate time/amount.

I DEFINETLY dont want to use two people and manual turning on and off of a pump. What I need is a kind of Demand Pump. But what kind is best for this application?

Look on Ebay for 12v fountain pump, running it with the wand shut off is no problem. 12v is safe around water and I run it with a wall transformer from a modem or something, plugs right in. Mine is for 8mm (5/16") ID hose, paid around $10. These are low pressure, so the flow will be lower than anything connected to the tap at something like 40-60 PSI.

I currently just use gravity, a jug on top of the cabinet and a hose connecting it to a hempy bucket. Just pour in desired amount and runoff comes out a hose near the bottom of cabinet. 8)

You just need a water pump with a built in pressure switch. Rv ones work great but they are 12volt. You can get them in 110volt I know.
 
I am living in Asia with 220 volt. Is there some advantage to 110/220v vs 12v? Other than the 220v will not require a power supply to transform it? Thanks
 
You can just wire in a switch on the pump,or you can get a foot switch made for tools.
 
I think I will go with a 12V DC pump to keep it most safe. Combined with a 12v adapter (wired in) as required in the pump instructions.

Plan: connect the pump to draw from the fertigation tank into the fertigation line -> an open spigot -> smart IOT valve -> drip irrigation lines.

It seems like a sump pump or submersible pump usually does not offer the automatic on-off pressure demand I need? Although it would have been nice to find a suitable submersible that can fully empty the tank.
 
Or better yet, put the feed tube into the bottom of the res. I believe these are self priming pumps but I could be wrong (please double check).
