Any decent light will work I would buy the most expensive light out there till you get a couple grows under your belt. The good lights will have Samsung diodes and meanwell drivers but most of the lights will grow weed just some are better than others. If you check on amazon there is a light called grow planner they are on sale right now for 44 bucks buy 4 of them and daisy chain them together to make a killer 600 watt light that will grow great weed and you spend less than 200 bucks.
The ones I have found and been shown have Samsung diodes. The one I an looking at now comes with the AC Infinity 4x4 kit. What do you think about it?

I see the 4 x 4 tent that AC Infinity has and had a question about there light. I was recently told to choose a bar style light set up and the one provided is not that. It has the IONBOARD S44. Do you use this one?
I don't use any of those, but a few people I know use the AC infinity tents and they are top notch quality imo. I don't have any experience with that particular light though.

Bar style lights are a more evolved design over boards, and will give you more even coverage, but it's not going to make or break your grow if you don't get bar lights. Good diodes and drivers are more important than bars vs boards. fwiw I use HLG boards, and I see no reason to switch away to use bar style lights.

But for one main square tent like that, yeah, it makes sense to get some bar lights. Others here keep a constant watch over lights and prices and whatnot, so I'd defer to them.

Thanks for the detailed insight/point of view. This is what I need to know about on all the "tools/items" is insight.

See that’s bad advice. In soil the PH should be 6.5 to 7.5. And hydro is 5.5 to 6.5. And each strain is different and what works for one grower may not work for another. I would burn the heck out my plants at those ppm in hydro let alone soil. This is why I suggested the OP read as much as possible and they will see that there is no set one way works for all. But on these forums you will get so much mixed info it will make your head spin.
Sorry it was

AC infinity makes good products. Are they the best no but it will work for your first setup. There is much cheaper options that will work just as good in your on a budget but the AC will grow fine weed to get you started.

I'm not looking for the best of the best, at least right now. But I definitely don't want junk. If AC is pretty good and should last a while I'm good with that. The big thing is tryed and true. I'm looking at the kit model: AC-PKB44

Another handy item to have is a dedicated par meter. It's good to know how much light you are giving your plants. Some people claim using their cellphone with the Photone app is accurate, but I never found that to be the case on mine. So I bought this:

Not the most expensive, but better than the cellphone app IMO.
Thanks! Please keep the info coming.

Do you have a plan for what soil you will use and what pots?
I find soil growing to one of the hardest ways to do it. Not only is it hard to find a good soil but every soil I’ve ever used has had bugs. Everything you read will say start with soil and get a couple grows under your belt but I started right out with hydro bubbleponics and I still grow hydro but I do grow my outdoor stuff in soil just because I haven’t setup a drain to waste system in my hoop house yet. I find coco is probably one of the easiest ways to grow and you get faster growth rates and less pest to deal with and once you understand it its very easy to do the same thing everyday or automate it. I can’t tell you what will work best for you that’s were you as a grower needs to figure what will work best and what style you like to grow. If you’re looking for the easiest way with very little work then soil might be your best bet but I just find soil to be very complicated for me anyway. There isn’t any soil I’ve found so far that will get you from seedling to harvest without having issues along the way. I’m sure if I could run giant pots with little plants it might work but I don’t have the space for that and it’s far cheaper to run hydro for me.

I read here that this stuff is good:
Black Gold Organic All Purpose Potting Mix
I don't want a hydro grow, I'm worried about moisture problems.

You can make your own soil too. It's cheaper, and you can avoid the potential bugs that come with store bought bags. Tons of recipes out there.

If you want something easier than coco or organic soil, you can grow start to finish in Pro-Mix HP and just feed bottled nutes along the way. The defacto Fox Farms veg and bloom bottles will do fine. Probably won't be able to push as hard and get the great results the coco veterans get, but it's as easy as it gets.

You seem to know your stuff. Pro-Mix HP is easier just use bottled nutes, check. Coco, do you have a link to it? Can you tell me how it's grown with Coco please?

Coco coir is the fibrous outer shell of a coconut. It's used as a soil-less medium to grow in hydroponically (drain to waste). It's not buffered, and provides no nutrients on it's own, meaning you'll need to ph/feed daily. Lots of coco growers around here that'd be better at giving you the ins and outs of coco growing. Don't let coco dry out is the best coco advice I can give you lol.

I'm a soil grower. I make my own organic soil and flower in small, 1 gallon pots typically. 1 gallons are tricky because there isn't enough nutrition, usually, in 1 gallon to sustain a plant through flower, so I have to supplement with nutes. BUT, organic soil is great for keeping a bunch of small vegging plants and clones going which is why I've stuck with it over the years.

Great info. Thanks for sharing.

How do you test soils ppm? Can someone list good tools.
Coco and peat moss is both hydro growing. Its inert medium. They work same way. You test your feed rate before watering and then you collect a little runoff to see what coming out of the medium. It sounds hard but it’s I. Fact very easy. Take a look at the drain to waste category or checkout coco for cannabis.com. Great info on both places.

Good info; I'll check it out. Do you think a newbie could start off with Coco & peat moss?

Absolutely. It might be easier because you just repeat the same thing everyday time if you keep it simple with a single part nutrient like flora nova bloom from start to finish. When they are seedlings you can water every couple days and as they get bigger water daily and if you use small pots like 2-3 gal you can do multiple waterings per day. What I like about it is you less to mess up if you’re doing the same thing over and over all the time. I get bored quickly so I try all kinds of stuff and coco drain to waste has been the easiest for me
