Switching from t5 to hps

I've recently had problems with one of my t5s. Half the bulbs on one of my fixtures just stopped working one day. They turned back on the next day but I didn't want to have to worry about lights since I just switched to flower 1.5 weeks ago or so. I have bought a 600w ballast and fixture and all the goodies.

But now I'm worried about messing up my plant. If I switch it from 14 t5s to a 600w hps will that be to much light and mess her up?

It is about 4ft+ tall kushage plant in a 4x4x7 box. I know that's not ideal but my dad started the plant while I was out of town so now I am just doing damage control.

It has tons of fan leaves that are pushing 8-9 inches. So I'm hoping this will help with the light absorption.

But tracking says the light will be here tomorrow and I'm just wondering if I should switch the light or just keep my t5s til harvest and save it for next time.

The ballast is switchable to 50% 75% so if I have to I could run it at a lower power to introduce it?? Maybe? Ideas on that?

It's coming with a 440 cfm inline to cool it. I already have a 170 with a filter for smell control.

Just put her to bed for the night pics tomorrow hopefully

should be fine m8, dosent seem to bother my veffies when we have a really overcast day then next day its intense heat and sun..if it makes you feel better run on low power for fist day then bump up to full str gradually over next couple days

In recent years 2007-2014, the T5 has taken an undesirable turn, and many growers use the 2 foot long T5 on a rack with 3-6 other T5 tubes, these are total crap, and only ideal for germing and the seedling stage of veg, ...if that, the correct T5 or T8(shoplights) is 3 or 4 feet long and banked with 4-8 other lights hung from a chain, and offers superb illumination to late veg and even early bud, with a change of kelvin to warm red(2700k), if you have the 2 foot T5 either dump it for the correct length of 4 foot, or buy in another 2 foot rack, these T5's are too useful to any grower anyplace, from cloning to supporting a Mom thru her days or using in veg to cut power bills!

I suggest you dial in all your gear once arrives, install a test plant or your babe, along with a temp and Rh gauge to ensure all is well for 24 hours afore you turn your back on you grow, but check 2-3 times per day, start your ballast on 50% for the first week or so, increasing as temps and light falls over the coming weeks

So you guys don't think a 440 cfm inline dedicated only to the light won't be enough to cool it?

My box stays mid 70s all day. I could probably drop that a few degrees if I completely sealed my box during the day.

I'm probably going to vent the light into my current exhaust system that is for my filtered air. So it will just blow under the house. And outside.

The switch to HPS won't hurt anything and your ladies will probably enjoy the extra power :-) A 440 cfm fan should be enough to cool a 600w. Use the back of your hand as a gauge to tell you how close your light can be to the tops of your plants. With the light and fan on, hold your hand under the light. If you are not uncomfortable, your ladies will not be uncomfortable. The rule of thumb is 'as close as possible'. I keep mine right down on them (3-4 inches of the tops of the plants).

I don't see a reason to run at 50 or 75%.

You will have a lot more heat to deal with, but with your fan you'll be getting rid of a lot of it.
