Tesla New Model Unveil...

I didn't realize how much Bezos has invested in Rivian. Never noticed that they were driven out to the launchpad in Rivian's. It's a battle between Musk and Bezos who apparently despise each other.

I have enjoyed rivians launch, my bro worked on building their plant. There was some sort special on motor trend where they took it offroad and/or across the country on sort of backroads and such.

I would very much like to see a bunch of the old jeeps around here get new life by dropping in a crate electric engine. That's the route I would go, there are lots of decently modded used jeeps/trucks on the market here but I think they all are pretty dubious in the reliability sense and bad as daily drivers.

CNN tried Tesla's 'full self-driving' mode on NYC streets. It didn't go great
Consumer Reports tallied their reliability survey. It also didn't go well for Tesla.

Tesla has been pushing that autonomous driver crap as a way to make it seem as though they had some cutting edge technology to keep the stock price up. It doesn't work and people are finding out. Probably why Musk and cronies have been dumping billions in stock while the price is still high. The Cybertruck photo op was the same thing. That crappy truck will never see mass production but they pushed it out for a photo op to keep people happy. Tesla is smoke and mirrors. Everyone else has caught up to or passed Tesla in the electric vehicle field. Rivian and Ford both have consumer ready electric trucks rolling off the production line. All other car manufacturers have electric car offerings. Tesla is Beta technology while everyone else is going VHS.

I have talked to several tesla owners in my neighborhood and they have only praise and no issues with their cars. However at this point I would very much like to test drive the F150.
I imagine when the new battery technology comes along there will be third parties selling new and improved battery packs at a good price for older EVs, probably even pay you for the old one to offset the costs and recycle or reuse components like the shell and to recover lithium. A new battery pack in an older EV should make them last for a decade, EV's don't have as many moving parts as an ICE vehicle, so they should last a long time.

There are three promising battery technologies including one that just changes the separator and electrolyte and can be used with existing battery manufactures and the others are sold state and aluminum graphene chemistries, all will be introduced within 5 years and some are coming out now. All will significantly improve range and charging speed and change the game for EV's, cheap batteries will make an EV much cheaper to produce than an ICE vehicle and they will have much lower maintenance requirements.
