Testing Hans panel: 56watt Cree xp-e/ Lumiled rebel power==== Let's talk efficiency

Interested to watch this LED perform, but not expecting much at all.

Wide angled reflectors for bare LEDs with no lenses, penetration is not going to be great.

Comparing the "footprint" to the size of the panel and throwing a bit of trigonometry at the dimensions and reflector angles looks like it needs to be about 3 inches above your canopy ... looks like a very close scrog will be needed to achieve anything except weak stretched plants.

... but, I'm subbed and willing to learn.

Well I would say that I have no idea on this panel's peformance from a personal experience:bigjoint:, I've been using Cmh bulbs (philips retrowhite) for indoor lighting the last couple years, love the set it and forget it ideology, so this will be a first for us both I guess and I hope that quality diodes trumps larger higher wattage panels due to efficiency,,,,,,,,,,,but who knows really, i just wanna grow again and be open minded to the future(it will be someday/ you can quote me on that!) of indoor horticultural lighting........lets sit back and enjoy the show fellow grower.........ill try my best; that's all i can guarantee :)

Edit: Hans has told me that two panels are my best bet under my circumstances(he answered my email!!!lol).....but his website clearly states that it's exceptable use is within 24" x 20"inches, so fuck it I am pushing it slightly over(breaking out the creative training methods I guess) , and i'm not expecting any RIU member to burn 500 bucks on lighting 2x2 area; especially not over two autos:ohaha.....

Nice setup man, subbed for this.

Was wondering about the candles burning and releasing fumes which may stick to the flower heads? or am i over thinking this?

Peace to all, keep the happiness growing.

Good question............it should be alright using them, as long as their natural wax/parafin/oil no scents..........I'm only running them for 4hr a day/ will see how it does....

Hey Dawgie..........pull up a chair brother.............waiting on the bitches, then we start:).............yep 24/0 straight through, great minds think alike ha:hump:

edit: shit was stoned and thought you typed 24/0 light cycle ha.............no im running the autos with no dark cycle....but i do hear that 20/4 is best for autos..........will see....be safe brother and take care of lucy:weed:

industry leading leds are an other story compared to imitations leds ... and the lenses talk take an all different angle

I recall an article abut paraffin wax candles. I think they burn cleaner/healthier than the el cheapos.

As to Hans using jumpers, it does minimize the cost v 3 different switches, and you only switch once each per grow, so no biggie

I have have off course subscribed to this thread, for we pay 390$ for 1000kw/h here in Denmark
so efficiency is a serious matter, And I'm looking into everything that can make the most energy efficient grow run.

The reason i was playing with the thought of a programmable LED grow light
as can be seen here Was that i thought that it could control and increase the wattage
as the grow went a long. I'm trying to envision a rising power consumption curve as the plant grow,
say - Week 1 = 5 watts - Week 2 = 10 watts - Week 3 = 25 watts - Week 4 = 35 watts and so on.
I wonder if the curve is linear or exponential seen over 8 weeks.

The reason Hans got such a nice yield pr. kw/h must also be related to fact that some of the panel is switch off in the beginning.

I like his way of using many smaller LED's far apart, and very close to the plant, and as close to passive cooling(noiseless) as possible.

Yeah Jubiare, I think the fellow didn't realize that the leds in this panel still have a primary lens (just not any secondary lens/splash guards) @ 108 & 130 degrees....

Yes his final panel was passive only, now the production version has a small fan on top (consuming 1watt, according to Hans/ rest is the driver) due to his worry of growers using them in high heat environment (like me)..........040.jpg001.jpg002.jpg looking at my temps(slight early heat wave here) with no panel or candle on, I'm gonna have issues.............Four days in the medium(3 seeds/ 1/4inch deep, picking the best two) and still a no show, I've had seeds pop after 12 days so not worried yet:)
God knows how long they where in storage at attitude(seed bank) before they gave them out as freebies:wall:...........well the waiting continues.....

@petflora......Well when I purchased the panel it said switch between phases(was pissed), He recently updated the site to add the fact of using a jumper/and other specs........And no its not easily "dismountable" for cleaning, their are like 20 screws that need removal and careful reinstalling (shitty!)..........I think Hans has been lurking in here.....ha

Shit, there is that Co2 meter once again :-), I had almost forgot about it after seeing the cost on e-bay 3 hours ago
- I quickly got drawn to a model with RS232/USB interface and logging software, but decided no not another 250$

How much did you say you had to pay for yours? ;-)

Looking at your new panel, I can't see where the fan air is coming out ?

Yeah got my co2 meter 18 months ago here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007LEE3MO/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 for 90 dollars shipped/ old model they have newer version now wall mountable/ better sensor....
Some growers here love this one for a bit more $$$.... http://www.amazon.com/Indoor-Air-Quality-Meter-Temperature/dp/B001PDGFR8/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1338314243&sr=1-1 has a ten year sensor on it, better quality and wall mountable......good luck

Yeah the fan just sits on top and circulates air over the metal backing/ no vent holes!!/ seems illogical to me..........who knows if it holds up...

Yo psua, keeping my fingers crossed for you hoping those beans sprout. What kind of heat is that panel putting off, temps with lights off vs temps after running a couple hours?

Thanks Puff, hope so too...........Well the panel raises the sealed shoe closet lol.. about 3-4degrees, candle one degree...temps have been in the upper 80-low 90 here in the northeast last couple days....i'm looking at temps right now if the panel/candle are lit close to 90 degrees, MJ can tolerate that but not much more. I have quite a large issue ahead of me if this is any indication of what the summer will be like here...

Sounds like you'll be battling the temps for the whole grow. Doing it sealed wont leave very many cooling options available to you. Keep us posted on how you plan to combat the temps. Best of luck bro. P.S. I'll have my new light in today or tomorrow.

those cree xml's are outstanding and are excellent for flashlights , not sure about growing weed with them though

if i had 30 more of these i would give it a go LOL

peace :)

lol wut, very weird indeed. I think we should notify him that the fan is no use if there is no airflow.
Yeah Ive looked at it real close now and it seems to pull the air above it and push it out the sides of the fan housing and flowing over the back of the panel( acting like a flat heatsink?)and to the sides, but not into the interior.........sorry Franjan for the bad info lol......

Excellent led........But check out the price http://www.rapidled.com/cree-xm-l-neutral-white-led/ that's one led mounted to star, shit's gonna add up fast:)

these things are getting brighter and clever fast, was not long ago these cree chips were only 200 lumen, now they are 1000 lumen
in a few years they will be brighter than the MH flashlights lol
for the size of these things they do put out a lot of heat locally so good build quality in whatever housing they are placed in
is important to protect these chips from burning out, still i think they are a pretty cool side of modern technology weather they are good to grow with or not

peace :)
