Howdy and welcome to the party! What part of Texas are you considering? I've been north and south and could put in my 2 cents of where to avoid. Like the Austin metro rat race and traffic, the backwards and corrupt culture of Corpus Christi and below, rat race of Houston and Dallas....uggggggg! Dallas and Fort Worth also have the highest taxes in Texas. Before relocating to Central Texas I checked quite a few communitys' insurance rates, property tax rates, utility costs and other important considerations which included strolling thru grocery stores, people watching. Where I moved to probably has the highest standard of living consisting of a very sophisticated, broad based community, small yet super prosperous with the lowest rates of what's mentioned of any town in Texas. Plus the climate is cool considering Texas in general, dry as hell of course with this on-going drought.Hello fellow Texans. I believe this is my first post. I have been sitting in the background just reading and learning everything here. Currently I reside in Oklahoma and am due to get out of the military due to medical reasons. That's part of the reason I never posted. That and every person I was following left the forum before I signed up here. Anyways when I get to Texas I'm planning on doing a small grow for myself and select family and friends. But I just wanted to hop on here and say hi.

May your retirement and move be smooth.Hey UB thanks. I'm thinking about and hr or 2 north of Houston. My wife is from a small town by navasota and I grew up around that area as well as college station. So we are looking around those areas
Austin is cool as long as you don't have to commute every day. As a grower if you're growing on any scale you don't want to live anywhere in the city where you're stuck with austin electric (like I unfortunately am)... around $150 of my bill last month was not actual electric usage at normal rates but 'adjustments' and 'summer taxes' -- adjustments = 'we in austin think you use too much electricity, so fuck you we're adding on a whole extra charge to get you to stop your earth destroying ways'. One of the nice things about texas is being able to choose your electrical provider... unless you live in austin. the sad thing is I'm not even in the city but i'm still stuck with them Austin's taxes may not be too expensive, but it's more than made up for by the higher cost of living in general particularly where you live whether it's overpriced land you own or high rent.Howdy and welcome to the party! You couldn't pay me to live in Austin! Traffic sucks, taxes ARE high....its become another big city with big city taxes and lots of crime. (We watch KVUE, KXAN, or KEYE news every night). Mopac and IH35 are unbearable, whole metro area has become that way. Aunt Benita and I left from Georgetown and it took us over an hour to get past Lakeway. 620 is nothing more than the generic hillside butchering with another Target, CVS, and HEB on every other corner and a frickin' traffic light every 1,000'. Sometimes you gotta sit thru them twice. Nah sah, it aint what it used to be back in the 70's. Back then, Austin was THE place to be.Austin is cool as long as you don't have to commute every day. It is the third-fastest-growing city in the nation. 4th lowest crime in the nation. Some of the Lowest cost of living and one of the healthiest city in the nation.. here's a few more

That is correct. It is one of the most vibrant cities in the U.S. with super fast growth and lots of jobs, many high paying jobs. No housing though due to the incredible influx of people and demand. Blink and that newly listed house you looked at 2 hours ago is gone. If that's your thing, go for it.Well .... all I'll say is Austin consistently sits atop Forbes' annual list of the best cities for jobs and scores highly in other demographics rankings.
