i just sample random parts of the plant to look at... when i see all cloudy i know they are getting close, then i keep an eye for that "cola" color to start kicking in... then i know they are pretty much at where I want them...

Actually, why am I even looking for amber?

I was rereading Subcool's guide and in it he states:

"2. Fully formed and turning slightly cloudy or milky; this is probably the best time to pick most hybrids available today."

He even suggests picking JC before they turn cloudy or almost turning cloudy.

btw what if you see clear & amber but no cloudy like in this pic (credit: Subcool):

"I find my buds taste better and more importantly my bubble taste better when I shoot for about 30% Amber and when I go past this as I do some harvest on purpose we find our favorite stash weed is always harsher and less enjoyable to smoke. The difference in potency again is something I can judge I can't smoke a whole joint of Apollo at day 54 or 62 but the ealier harvested buds taste better to me." SUB

that is further down in that thread my man....

I never understood the whole trichome thing, my radioshack microscope is retarded and it's hard to keep the object in focus.

Is it 30% amber of the trichome stalk, or 30% of the entire plant? or 30% of a bud? No one ever explains that part in their tutorials. Either way it's really hard to tell. I see a few amber here and there and rest are cloudy. So I figured cloudy is good enough and chopped the ones you see.

Maybe I'll flush for 5 days and chop, cus the Qleaner / Vortex are producing those "crowns" and are swelling like crazy. Don't think I need to flush much anyway since I'm clipping every single leaf off.
everyone is different, but i wait until each of the tops go 20-30% amber and the rest cloudy... it makes for powerful medicine... if you want it a little less couch-locky harvest earlier... when they go milky i start planning my flush (usually it is a two week flush, but if it goes amber faster than normal, i pull it before it goes more than 30% or so, so it doesn't just put me to sleep)... hope it helps! good luck...

that's sub's pic btw. But that is what I'm seeing.

What if I'm seeing clear and amber but no cloudy? wtf?

IMO the amber pic has gone to long and is loosing THC and flavor

This shot is closer to pre harvest
Thanks for stoppin by Sub! So I would chop it when it looks like that? Even if there are no milky/cloudy? Or is that considered cloudy (I thought cloudy was white and opague)

Actually turns out the Qleaner may go 10 weeks, so another few days to a week. I've chopped the apollo's but the bud's aren't that pretty as I hoped or even as dense as the SpaceBomb/Vortex. Wonder what I did wrong?
The 2 Vortexes are coming down soon, it's still spitting out a lot of new green/white hairs at week 8 for some reason and no cloudy/milky yet
Jillybean is done, I'm just waiting for more amber. and omg the Jillybean bud's are so ridiculously dense. I think the yield will actually be around 5-6 oz per plant where I was only expecting 3 oz (only vegged a month and half). Actually yielded like 2-3 oz from SpaceBomb. (Have 1.5 oz off the top half fully cured).

I've never really grown other breeders' strains as successfully so I have nothing to compare to, but in my opinion TGA strains can be very high yielding because while the buds aren't very big, they're really dense, which is why I trim all the leaves, leaving just the calyxes. Not to mention that some of them have a very short flowering time. You could grow only SpaceBomb and harvest every 6.5 weeks! From what I've seen, the so called high yielding "commercial" strains are mostly leaves anyway, and the calyxes are tiny. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Wait till you see the Qleaner fully trimmed!

Will let you all know in a few weeks when it's all said and done.

Unfortunately I won't be able to write a good smoke report because I don't have a bong and I can never taste the difference between good weed and bad weed because I'm an amateur smoker (maybe I just need a bong). Only reason I started growing was because I wanted my cousin to stop wasting money on weed so I popped a few bag seed and from there it became an addicting hobby.

@ anomolies, forget that frickin bong, and get onto a vape...

there have been several studies which conclusively state that the water in the bong filters out the thc and leaves the tar and other bs in the smoke, thus making you smoke more, get more tar in your lungs and less effect...

any vape will help you tell the difference between good and bad weed (taste and effect as well) and also they will help medicate better, longer and using less ganja than usual, even better effect than a jay...

i don't work for anyone (at least not a producer or manufacturer of vaporizers) but i can suggest that an original volcano is perhaps the gold standard for medicating, tasting, and enjoying our favorite herbal supplement... and for portable ones, i strongly recommend an iolite...

try the harborside or treating yourself websites for a downloadable pdf for organoleptic tasting notes for your mmj smoke reports, they are awesome, and may lead to you becoming a more educated consumer, grower, and taster of ganja...

as my sainted momma used to say: "free advice is worth what you paid for it", it is just my 2 cents worth...
