the american male's sports-obesession

I think you missed a few of my points bro..

1. Jersey Shore - do they deserve the salaries they receive as well? I believe you will answer no, they don't. If you answer no, you will be contradicting your own justification for athletes salaries. If you answer yes, I'd love to hear your reasons why.

2. Couldn't millions of people be spending their time more constructively? Agreed with you that that's really none of my business, it's just more of an observation about society that I made. I think it would be better if all those millions of people so occupied with sports were doing something else, perhaps thinking about solving some of the problems I went over earlier. You've gotta agree with that, right?

3. What makes any professional sport any more reasonable/rational/or logical to consider professional? I find it similar to the different organized religions - all of them are equally as irrational and illogical, just like sports and board games and video games and anything like that... they all seem equally as irrational to idolize on the level professional sports are today.

4. Take the "obsession with sports" further... I believe one of your counter-points earlier was "well if people want to pay for it, there will be people who will always provide it" - I brought up the gladiator games, and how there are people who'd be glad to pay to see that... Where's the line? Physical harm? Apparently not, as already agreed upon, athletes get fucked up in their sports all the time. Death? Intent of death? Intent of human death? Another problem I see from where I sit is conflict of interest. The people responsible for putting these events on have amassed enormous fortunes. You see what they want you to see. You tune in, they keep providing it.

One other thing, honest question... What do you think would change if instead of sports it was science or something else equally as beneficial academically? Better or worse for the world?

I'd appreciate a response to each of those points if you've got the time. I'm just chillin' at 2am wide awake and stoned as fuck with 2 days of work off :D
once again, non of your business. if the jersey jerks have an audience and sponsors are willing to pay them, more power to them. its non of my fucking business because i dont contribute in any way. why are lefties always the MORAL police when it comes to what OTHER people are paid?

you want to start attacking peoples salaries, lets start with govt workers who, for the most part, are leeches on society. not producing a fucking thing but getting paid by STEALING other peoples money. who get their jobs because they licked the right politicians balls.

anyone who earns money by their own free will and hard work, more power to them. they arent stealing from me or my family.

l played soccer for over 6 years, and just because some overgrown fool with a pituitary problem isn't manhandling you doesn't mean its a girls sport.
No you are right, baseball is not a girls sport.....Soccer is though. You wanna know the kids that play soccer and really dig it? The kids that cant play any other sports because they lack the coordination and/or skills. Also soccer parents are the worst of them all.

God bless your kids for hating soccer. i have a couple daughters that play. thats ok. but no self respecting man would let a boy play soccer.....just wrong man, wrong!
Yeah my wife and I were both thankful for that. My oldest was 4 and the only organized sport available was soccer. That lasted all of 10 minutes :-)

He tackled (real tackle not soccer "tackle") the kid with the ball and was told that was against the rules. He walked over to us and said "this is boring, there are girls and I cant tackle...can we leave?" Wife and I looked at each other smiled.

He turns 6 this year.....he starts Pee Wee football next season. He can throw a spiral 20 yards on target. His little brother is an animal. Has absolutely no fear and is is aggressive as hell thanks to his older brother. Kid was born to be a linebacker. I feel bad for the other kids when we unleash him on Pee Wee football :-)

have to disagree with the soccer as a girl sport...not as physical as american football but not at all a female only sport. In fact its only the most popular sport in the world.leg-break-300x262.jpg

Organized sports foisted on kids is simply the parents way of living their broken dreams through their children. Football is the Mother------ of all sports. It asserts aggression, greed, competition, (For those with small dicks) and totally fucks up the minds of the children for life. We as a Nation should be building kindred spirituality, togetherness, tolerance and sharing. not the kill your opponent mentality. With a little practice, maybe we could all learn to get along.

Spoken like someone that has never strapped it up and stepped foot on a football field....Life is competitive. Your attitude is leading to "the pussification of America." Why do you think that HS kids kill themselves due to bullying now in droves and didnt in the past? Because we as a society are not teaching them to stand on their own 2 feet and defend themselves.
ts funny that some of the things you mention we need to work on ARE past of football. Teamwork is essential, tolerance is essential (Look at a football roster you'll see Blacks, Whites, Christians, Atheists, Gays and straight all working together towards a common goal.)
In HS I played ball w/ 2 Latin King gang members, after one of their fellow gang members stabbed me 3 times at school. When it came time to get mine, they stood w/ me and kept other gang members out of it while I pummeled the little shit that stuck me.

The penis size thing is pathetic dude and you know it. Maybe if YOU had the balls to step on the field and line up you'd get it. Yeah, while the game is on I will try to destroy you physically and take your will to play away. As soon as the whistle blows, Id help you off the ground. After the game Id shake your hand and we'd probably go out for a bowl or 2.

Ive been involved w/ football at some level (playing, coaching) for close to 35 years now. Didnt "fuck me up for life", in fact just the opposite. I learned a lot from the game, and im not a sociopath. I learned the value of hard work, competition, teamwork, accepting defeat w/ grace etc. etc,

MM, youre guilty of some of the same things you accuse sports lovers of. Nice sweeping generalization of people.. Im disappointed in your narrow minded views on this, its not like you man.

Oh so you mean it takes skill for two teams, fully padded, to run a 15 second play, and then sit around with their thumbs up their asses for 3 minutes in between each play for the entire game? You sound like one of those armchair quarterbacks who still has issues being cut from the high school football team...at least soccer required endurance, and also, around the world, soccer fans riot for their teams...they go in the streets, they set shit on fire, people die...what happens at the superbowl? Oh yeah, a couple of fat drunk wana-be's like yourself get in a scuffle in the parkin lot. Yeah, die hard fans.

And where did you get baseball from? That sport takes the least amount of talent.

Wow Now if only people rallied that way for stuff that really matters. I mean sure there have been a few riots over real issues, but it seems more often over sports, And even more often when their team wins?

We're all guilty of something. I am the lone holdout in my family with the attitude I possess about organized sports. It is an opinion area. Am I right? will man eventually destroy himself over competition? who the fuck knows. I just think (opinion) that mankind would be better served with a cooperative attitude than the old, " my stuff's better than your stuff" attitude. I do realize that it is a sweeping generalization, but that is the way I think, generalization. Individualism is way overrated. If we could all learn to share and get over the "football mentality", the world would be a much better place. Do I think it will ever happen? Barring divine intervention, not on the coldest day in hell. Achievement is rated in dollars, the evilist commodity on the planet. I realize we all need a certain amount of "money" to live comfortably, But there is a point where it becomes rediculous. For years we, (The USA), have been the benchmark of achievement. I believe we are about to get our (USA) asses handed to us. The collapse of the American dollar is eminent, we are in the throws of a declining civilization, Third world status is just around the corner. We (THE USA) will have to start WWIII to recover our economy, eliminate a massive amount of people (Population control) and regain Winner, (Football mentality), status. See, generalizations. I have not curled up in the fetal position as of yet. You may have noticed in some of my previous posts that I'm pretty well armed. If it comes down to it, I will fight. I have always delt with bullys expediciously, won a few and got my ass kicked a few. This time I feel it will get way more serious, and I'll have to open my armory. I've never knowingly taken a human life, but If it is them or me and my family, I'll choose them.

If there is no competition there is no success. Fuck everyone getting a trophy.
Exactly, all part of the "pussification of America".....Everyone wins and no one loses, no real competition or reward for hard work.. Its bullshit.

Again, Ill say it. Its part of the reason that kids are offing themselves all the time now because of being bullied. We have taught an entire generation of our kids to NOT stand up for themselves and to be hyper passive. No need to work hard, stand tall or be accountable for anything.

Just because something is popular doesnt equate to it being quality....Case in point: Jersey Shore, Lady Gaga, etc. etc.
Oh I understand that big time..Sara Palin is another case in point..lol...but I tried soccer in high school ( was recommended by my wrestling coach ) and I can tell you now that shit requires a whole lot of running...and its not as easy as it looks when it comes to controlling that ball..now when it came to football that was much easier and much less conditioning...You will never find a fat out of shape pro soccer player, but you can find plenty of fat out of shape NFL players.!!!

I played soccer too, football coach made us in the offseason, it is great conditioning.

While you might see a lot of 300+ lb. guys in the NFL, I can say you wont see a 300 lb. guy playing soccer than can run a sub 5 second 40 yard dash, you probably wont see too many soccer players that can bench 225 lbs. 30+ times. Just because those lineman are huge does not mean they are out of shape.

I would be willing to bet that more NFL players are out of shape then professional soccer players...period!!!! Comment was made about soccer being a girl sport. I strongly disagree!!! and you having played should know that. Now i do enjoy watching football over soccer, but when it comes to conditioning and such soccer wins hands down..and dude you not going to see a 300lb soccer player...lol..average weight of good soccer player is 175-185. you show me a 300lb soccer player and I will show you a person who USED to play soccer..lol

It's great that this thread about sports being bad turned into a debate about football being better than soccer.

Here in the good old USA, football is king. :)
King of what? Bullies and big old dudes. I'll agree that those NFL players are tough guys, I watch the contact and know that if I were to last one down I'd probably be hospitalized or paralyzed, but that shouldn't make them the Gods their salaries make them. Being tough may have been necessary in the Roman empire days, but today, it is who you know that makes you successful. The world, especially the USA, is way too decadent and spoiled. That was what brought down the roman empire, and that is exactly what is bringing down the USA. Gladiators and football players, rich tough guys, although, as Samuel Colt said, " god made man and I made them equal". I've yet to see a man that can run through a barrage of AK47 gunfire, or charge through six rounds from a .44 or .357. Tough guys may be able to kick the living shit out of us old guys, but don't let us get our hands on our "Nines". When I'm strapped, I'm probably as tough as a 6'8" 400 lb lineman. Hopefully I'll never have to find out. Peace and hope, for that's all we have left to believe in.
