A side note to this for clones and mothers. When using a mother and cutting clones, the clones carry with them the age of the mother. This Is why with clones many people have great harvests off of clones switched to flowering after 3-4 weeks from clipping. I flower as soon as the clones grow their first new node. On average of 3-4 weeks. They grow from about 5-6in to 20-22in in a 3 week time span. Keep in mind this sounds like a short height, but it is with 6 plants covering 9sqft in my Scrog. On average, your plants will grow 150%-300% when you switch them to flowering. Here are some pics of my current grow with clones that vegged for 4 weeks and then 4 weeks into flower in the second pic.

Roseman is spot on with his post. Let me try to expand for your particular grow. In my opinion the idea is to make your canopy a box full of buds. In your case, based on your 600 watt light, the box is 4 feet by 4 feet square and 18 inches deep. This is the “flower zone” that your 600 watt light will support, both in horizontal coverage and vertical penetration. You want to train your plants so your buds will fill this box. How you train and how long you vegetate them depends on what strain and how many plants you are growing.

The first thing I do when planning a grow is determine the characteristics of the strain I’m growing. Opium is described as having “Huge bracts pile up on each other, making fine-looking trichome colas - some of the biggest buds ever seen” with “gigantic yields.” Based on this information, I would shoot for 2-3 main colas per square foot. Since your grow area is 4X4 = 16 sq ft, that would be 32 to 48 main colas.

And since you are growing 6 plants that makes it somewhere between 5 and 8 main colas per plant. There are a few ways to train your plant to achieve this ratio: topping, low stress training, etc. I prefer topping (except with Sativa’s) with bushy plants like Opium. I’ve included a picture of how I topped once to achieve 8 main branches from my latest grow, PPP, which I believe has similar characteristics as Opium.

Opium is also said to “perform phenomenally in terms of manageability and vigorous growth” and “Can very easily be vegetated” and “Can quite quickly be flowered.” Based on this, I would only vegetate long enough for the plants to reach 18” in height at most. There should be no reason to vegetate longer in my opinion - they should be plenty bushy by then, and they will easily stretch to fill your 18” box.

This assumes you are growing all FEMALES. If you are growing from unknown seed, then I would assume a 50/50 ratio (or 3 females for 6 plants) and adjust accordingly.

EDIT: My goal would be for yield of 450 grams or above.

i will be going with feminized seeds, my goal is to achieve 2lbs, i would like to go hydroponically. what i need to know is how many bubble buckets would i need to go with? how much area wil i need, and how much light? i would also be better off do a rez with a controller? would that be hard to build??

I'd suggest you start slow... It's people looking too grow lbs and lbs right off that get caught. Take it slow and easy. Each plant can give you anywhere from a 1/2 oz to 10 oz. it's all up to you, how good you are with plants, pH, feeding, determining plant needs and giving them as much as they can take without going overboard. Giving them the proper environment 100% of the time.takes a lot of practice. Learn it, Live it, love it... And the rewards will follow...

awesome looking harvest!!! I can only hope get there soon enough..

and My new fem seeds should help tremendously!! Im so excited to say I finally have some good strains in my mits.. :mrgreen: I got some Blue widow and WW fem seeds.(germing at the moment) I also took the opportunity to rethink my setup and hopefully made it more efficient for my needs..

went from a 22 gal res (:wall: don't do this!!) to a couple of shallow 10 gal tubs that actually only have about 6gal of water in them. This makes it much easier to maintain and replenish as necessary. Learn from my mistakes, don't build a Huge res!!

btw, I moved a bunch of plants to flowerin to make room for the new seeds so there's not much goin on in way of veggin. But here are the pix anyways..

i have a question i hope im inthe right forum this time. im having a little trouble getting all my seeds to sprout using the seed directly into peat pot method for my dwc grow only 2 have come up so far they look ok but there is no sign of the other two i do have other seedlings that are in soil at this time if the roots are healthy and over one inch in leanth can i transplant them into a peat pot and then add them into my dwc unit i would like for these sprouts to all be in the ddwc and all about the same age frame..? someone please help...i have two open spots in my dwc right now...peace pot prosperity....

I used peat pellets in a greenhouse i picked up for like ten bucks at a hardware store, watered the pellets and put them in the greenhouse on top of a heating pad I had sitting around, set on the lowest setting. I left them like this for a day with no light and when I checked them, all the seeds had cracked. It was another day before they were poking out of the soil, and then I put some lights on them and they took off! It's a pretty easy method if you're gonna start your seeds in peat. I've got the seedlings sitting in my DWC right now doing just fine!

I'd say you probably can, just be real careful with those roots and make sure you're not getting any dirt or peat in your res, you don't want to start growing stuff in there!

Alright boys... Today's the day... Cleaning up my BP tank, getting her all filled up and primed for some Fresh New Seeds. I'm going to try to do the mixed strain tank. Even though purp didn't have the best luck with it. They're all indica, so we'll see what happens.
