the c99 story

I like buying seeds. It's not THAT expensive. Being able to pick out a rough slice of a genetic pool with the info to get an idea of what you are getting is great. I'm fine with the prices that are out there.
I've been thoroughly impressed with Sannies. Not just the low price and quality genetics, but, it seems like the guy is really into it. Beyond the money, excited about MJ.
I was never totally blown away by Chimera seeds. But, I like hearing the guy talk. I always felt good about spending my money with him and Beanho. They always seemed legit.
Even if they ARE in it for the money.. what's wrong with that?

Haven't been as impressed with Mr Nice or Federation. Seedsman seeds were a little rough... that was mostly me making a first go at an indoor sativa though.

I would say though that one of my best plants was my own picking a seed out of a bag. Turned out great.

Yep, Chimera really talked it up but don't they all? Over 10 years ago in a post at OG someone said it well, "it's all the same furniture, just pushed around the room a bit."

During the brief cursory glances I see at the dozens of web seedbanks now, I don't see anything unique. Unique is stuff like I have - Dalat vietnamese sativa, Zamal from the island of Reunion, an old African sativa, or TFD's Original Haze whose genetics were contributed by Sam the Skunkman of Santa Cruz, who gave the genetics (Col., Mex., S. Indian, Thai) to 2 of his neighbors, the Haze brothers, who then combined them into what has now been bastardized by every seed chucker with a seedbank website. Even seen Haze hawked as having Jamaican blood.

Yeah, I'll agree there. Little is available as far as unique.

I try to spread out what I keep around. Filling the common needs.
Blueberry
Haze (Nev/Ssilver)
NL
Skunk
Diesel

I guess when it gets down to it.. it's pretty much all Afghan, Columbia, Mexican, Thai, etc..

But yeah... I enjoyed hearing Chimera talk more than his seeds... No complaints though. One of his packs opened me up to one of my favorites.. Sweet Pink Grapefruit.

I'm getting to be pretty happy with what I got. Thinking I am about done fucking with seeds.
If I could get one more thing though... It would be a good Sweet Tooth 3 plant.

I ordered an ST3 from beanho... sent me the wrong pack... got a nevilles haze x ST3. I ended up with 9 males, 1 female. Kind of a bummer.
I'm getting the first look at it right now in flower. Looks very Nev's, not much ST3 at all. Oh well. I'm about done with seeds. Too much work to be putting in when I feel like I have a pretty good stock of mums to play with. 5 years of work... I think I did pretty well.

Green Crack (SKunk), SSH 9wk, SSH 12-14wk, G13, Killing Fields (NYCD leaning), Killing Fields (12 wk hazy). a few more. i forget.

Over about 180 seeds... 80-90 females stocked and tested... I've narrowed it down to about 8 plants I feel good about.

It doesn't get any more sleezy than the cannabis biz. If you haven't found out yet, you will eventually.

amen brother...its pathetic really

i also agree with it all being the same, its like every seedbank goes on their competitors site and just gets the SAME exact strains....i never knew why people did this. you think they would want to make their OWN strains to get known by instead of something someone made in the 80s or 90s...it doensnt make sense to me..

Biz is just another "hurray for me, fuck you" drill.

Sorry to sound so jaded, but people, if you have some nice genetics you like, just make your own crosses. You'll save a ton of money, have fun, learn something and have progeny that is as good if not better than the originals. It's not rocket science.

^ No need to apologize for not being happy with what is available in the market place..
I personally like to leave that work to someone else. Being someone who works from cuttings... Making my own crosses is not appealing as I'm looking for something different than what I already have.

Work on my vehicles though? I could tie an arm behind my back, cut off a thumb, get drunk and do better work than any mechanic I've gone too. I'm no pro, but it isn't rocket science, most service is terrible and the biz is sleazy (in my experiences). I understand that view..

I have to stick up for a few folks producing seeds though. Sannie... Not a sleazy fellow.
Some call Dr Greenthumb a crook... ?. I've chatted with him a few times and had a good time talking genetics. He's never done me wrong. A G13 plant I got from his pack has been a solid plant for me. I love growing this plant.
As far as the drama... who deserves true credit for what, lies, etc... don't care. Just want the potential for a good chunk of a genetic pool, reasonably close to what it was sold to me as.
3 seeds for $200... people call it robbery. The thing is, no one forced me to buy it. I'm happy with what I got. My only regret was not getting 2 or 3 packs to make a selection from more plants.

Effortless high yielding plants in 8 weeks. Tastes great, smells great, smokes great, looks great. If these seeds were not available and this cut was for sale... i would be willing to pay up to 2k for it... that's how good I feel about this plant.

I made backcrosses but I seriously doubt if there's any real C99 being offered. Really don't know since I haven't bought seeds in 12 years and don't intend to start back now.

It was not the "holy grail" that was coined in the Bros ads. It was prone to hermies somewhat and bud rot and I had an issue with one of the males I popped hoping it would make good breeding stock - the internodes were outrageous, like 12" long. I've seen pure sativas with much shorter internodes. Pointed it out to Soul and he went ballistic, banned me too. If you didn't suck up to the Bros., you weren't allowed to remain in their "help desk", which they modded of course for the sake of sales. It you grew super dense fat colas and didn't have a fan blowing directly on the colas with RH below, say.....60%, you stood a good chance of having some bud rot.

Just flat out not true on both counts. C99 was famous for not turning and never a nanner. Her buds were long and running. Fat she was not, not a great candidate for bud rot.

Well, I got fat buds and like I said I did have a problem once with bud rot. Probably my own fault.
