The Chinese Quantum Board Knock Off Builds

i feel like this would be a better light to go with

Ok, but why and which of the many lights behind this link are you talking about? The light in that video, with 4 bars is no good for 300$. Its diode count is low: 168 leds per bar is a bit shitty and impossible to reach 680w. There is not really a point in believing in what they say about the lights as far as numbers if you cannot evaluate whether the numbers are even possible. Start with counting diodes and try to figure out what is the power level per diode. And take it from there.

i mean personally i would not go with that but if he wants like a flence type light then its not bad but yes you are right.
the reason what makes that light "okay" is the configurable didoes, inventronics driver, wireless controllable, and if true 1680 ppf

i just ordered this a few days ago.

Please enlighten us. Seriously. I'm not saying this in a malicious way at all. I'm trying to outfit a 20x20 room without spending ~$800/light for Growers Choice. Is there a legit Chinese option or is this a dumb route to go down for this size?

How do you organise the pots right now, whats your basic foot print? If you want to do 4x4s and dont have any obstacles to larger fixtures, going down close to the cannopy id rec fotops totally. If you cram in 3xfotops / 2400 diodes over a 4x4 with a 480 driver you will have a hell of a grow light. We had slightly more spaced out and at 150w per board, using no heatsink, none needed at those levels, and it flowered the shit out of any cannopy at around 8-10 inches. If you want extra reds my recommendation is to try to get as much red out of your phosphor whites as you can rather than adding red diodes.

If you want a really nice quality light and have the $$ id look into @Grow Lights Australia s boards, they have some very nice offerings but it would cost you probably the same as those Growers choice. They work with authentic Nichias in specialty spectrum, with high CRI and extra reds. As far as ive seen in side by sides and our old grow these +90Cri diodes have a nicer flower finish than added red diodes give. It was noticeably faster, nicer and heavyer tray for us

But if you need to go a cheaper way you can get the fotops for as low as 80$ + shipping which probably works out around 600$ for 6. The shipping on these are a bit steep cause of form factor but if youre ordering in multiples 6 you get the most out of your $.

Meijiu offer 90cri diodes if you order enough, but only in lm561c which is a slightly older diode than lm301b. But if you build this kind of extremely spread out design as the fotops offer this does not matter very much: the formfactor and closeness to cannopy you can achieve makes up for this completely. Other lights will lose much intensity to walls due to having to hang high.

Id atleast try this setup against anything you might wanna buy cause i can tell you it works for around similar prices to what their asking for lights: 400ish for a 4x4.

Check out @WeedSexWeightsShakes old updates. You can even see the difference in light levels in the old updates, when he had one of these strip type lights, all though i think it was another brand.

DIY is definitely worth it but if you want to buy make sure their light has a +2000 diode count for a 4x4 with guaranteed diodes. To many places lm301b means any 3030 diode with the same led housing as 301b.

If your only trying a few it might be worth trying them but i would never go for the prebuilt ones for a all in type of deal. I found loads of people who bought these type of lights and been happy but i cant think of anyone who liked them after a comparison with a well built DIY. And working with fotops you could build such a light in around 1.5 hours for the same price.

Find out what you like for growing first before doing a whole room with any one light.

As for size i assume its comercial. CO2 and and sealed?

yes, compliant, licensed, and co2 enriched.

Thank you for all the info. I will research more of what you’re saying tomorrow.

I dont think any home built light would pass firemarshall inspections unfortunately.

That was one of my concerns. GC’s may be the best route. Less headache, American company.

Here's another American option, this guy is super nice too. I follow him on IG, he's very humble and kind.

I think Leroy needs ETL listing or similar for passing code. I think would limit you to HLG, Bc blonde, gavita, not sure about Amare, and a few more.

Contact the marshal, here in Colorado it depends on how many employees and who has access to the area with devices. I own a mushroom farm and DIY'd low pressure steam sterilizers, they were approved by local marshal as long as it was owners who were handling them.

Yup. That is correct. This grow has to be by the book and up to code. Thank all of you for your helpful information so far.

To anyone looking into a QB fixture for a veg light. Here’s my current grow at almost 4 weeks. Had an issue in the beginning due to the strain I’m running being extremely hungry. Once I compensated we were back in the game. Currently waiting to sex em. Tossed 3 males out last night. Always hurts. I went 4000k but I’m going to order two 3500k boards to add to the 240w unit. I want a little more stretch to make training easier.

Id suggest either 4 foot strips (bridgelux or samsung or even cutters 2 foot solstrips which come in many different spectrums and with added monos) or 6 - 9 single qbs @around 700-800w total. For flower im a fan of 2700k 90cri as far as specctrum but its not very available. Another cheap way would be going for bridgelux vesta strips, they have 2 channels which make them great for a full cycle tent but are slightly less effective at making light. But they come in 90cri which imho makes up for slightly lower electrical efficiency.

What are people using in a 5x5? I’m thinking about grabbing some hello hello alibaba boards if it makes sense cost/performance wise

Currently using a 1000w SE HPS
You want 25-35 watts per square foot, so 625-875w. Do you want simple to set up? If so, these are a really good price for diode count, heatsinks, and spread. 3 fixtures on a 600w driver or 2 fixtures per 480w driver.

Shit that’s a wicked price. Thanks for the heads up!
