yeah...its def hard as a rock....proving that you can get dense bud out of cfls....so im content for only my second grow with cfl's...first grow grew one over 3 foot tall...so i know its the autos that are keeping them short...but ill take a bunch of short plants...if the top cola is like a tennis ball each timewow yea it does look dense very nice looking for cfl's, my grower buddies laugh at the cfl flowering concept but ha! laugh at that keep the plant small and ya can get thick hefty cfl buds.
Yea my buddie with a 1000watt hps was very impressed with what I've done with cfl's this far. At first he was questioning it lol.. Shit my SR is 3.5' and still has some pretty nice nugs on it for being as long as it is and not being able to get the cfl's super close.. I'll definitley try to keep them under or around 2' from now under cfl's though, just makes life a lot easier!wow yea it does look dense very nice looking for cfl's, my grower buddies laugh at the cfl flowering concept but ha! laugh at that keep the plant small and ya can get thick hefty cfl buds.
home depot and lowes didnt have them here....and i refuse to shop at ACE,my ex wifes father was a 3rd owner of ACE....fuck that place.all the normal place that should have them dont...was hoping someone had a good site to get them fromACE Hardware, Home Depot and Lowes all carry them but call them typically twin socket adaptors.
cfl's surprised me....they put off more heat then i thought they would..but got the heat issue under control now.was thinking of getting a hps system...but why bother...i can add a few more cfl's and get almost the same results...without killing my power billYea my buddie with a 1000watt hps was very impressed with what I've done with cfl's this far. yeah....i found that after renaming my search..gonna run up there tomorrow and get 5-6 of them..now that i know what to ask for...it shows it as being available in my local store...but i couldnt find them when i was there last time..and the dumbass kids that work there was no help.and id rather not go cheap...these ones i got now are the dollar ones on ebay...they get hotter than the bulbs do...and i was looking at them last night...when you screw 2 lights into them...the metal ends that screw in touch at the bottom...so as a tip...dont get any of the cheap y adapters from china on ebay....they are junk.i wonder if that was a major part of my heat issues from before.if these things are heating up along with the lights..no way to keep it cool...so im gonna buy a few of them..for my new bulbs i have coming..and to replace the old oneshttp://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xhi/R-100356967/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 maybe? I dunno 2.69 isn't that cheap though... do you have just an electrical supply around there? they may have em cheap..
Yea I hear you on that bro!! Same shit happened to me with cfls.. I couldn't see it being much hotter with a 250watt hps with an aircooled hood and a nice exhaust fan.. Cfl's are perfect for smaller more compact plants like you have going though, no doubt!!cfl's surprised me....they put off more heat then i thought they would..but got the heat issue under control now.was thinking of getting a hps system...but why bother...i can add a few more cfl's and get almost the same results...without killing my power bill
umm bro..ive been growing about 10 years...just never with soil or cfl's...i knew about the heat issues but didnt think it would get as bad as it did.and the first light box i did was a trial and error thing...it didnt last in the box but for a few hours till i took it out and built the new hood.the grow i did before this in this box went great...had a 3 foot monster...and was under less lights then i am now...i thinkk i got a shit brand on the 6500k's i bought....they got way to hot..even in a normal lamp they would burn to the touch....thats why it went from 95-100 degrees..not to mention the fact that im in south florida where its been 105 with 100% humidity.it wasnt the setup or venting...i had defective lights...and i think defective adapters...those bastards shocked me when i touched them...even with the lights off.and yeah i know what hid and hps can do...my old house i had a room with 20 1,000 watt hps's that i had over a custom built nft system...i was producing a few pounds every 2 months....but now im in a place where i have to be very very stealthy.i cant have the system i had before.nor can i afford the power bill...im already paying 300 a month for power...thats why i went with cfl's.im new to growing in a confined grow box...last grow house was about 2k sq ft....i had ac units just for the grow room...so how im growing now is new territory for me...been a learning process.but for the cost,space,and that simple fact that i wanted to test and see what these cfl's can really do is the reason im going this route.im growing for my own use now...so i dont need a huge yeild...and trying to keep a business going in this economy,pay bills,and take care of the 2 other people in my house..i cant go out and spend a ton of money on this....this is a project now...long as i have some good herb to smoke im happy.right now ive got more money tied up in seeds then i do my box and lights...so im not putting much more into it.so if i did go with a hid or hps...i would still have to buy all the other stuff im getting today anyways,inline fans,vents,tubing.if i had an extra 120-130 bucks right now id get hidI read the first like, ten pages of this thread and skipped to the back. Im glad you got your heat issues under control. Im kinda surprised you didnt know about the heat thing. Did you do any research/reading before you started growing??? lol Im sorry but, man, temperatures over 90 degrees completely STOP growth. The reason your "light box" didnt work was because you housed the sockets instead of the light bulbs. The lights is where the majority of the heat is given off. And if they're in high heats long enough, they will get heat stress and yeild and growth will be stunted. Again all things you probably know by now.
I wanted to say not to give up on HID lighting.. For the lumens per foot you cant beat it. And with a 250 watt (perfect for your size grow and a scrog setup), in a sealed hood, connected to a small 75 cfm blower (or less if you can find one), you get 16,000 lumens (optimally). With the air cooling option, you'll be able to cool your light so well that youll be able to keep it within a foot of the tops of your plants meaning youll get nearly all 16,000 lumens. If you went without air cooling, you would have to keep it the required 18in-24in away from the tops, but that would lower the lumens you get to closer to 3000-4000 (theres an actual formula you can use to find the lumen output but im not to good at math... its
I=L/D2 or
Intensity=Light divided by Distance Squared
(intensity being the initial lumens)
