Really? The highly evaporative solvents used in WD-40 dissipate into the air so fast that they don't really get into the water. WD-40 was named as the 40th attempt making a water displacement solvent. It was designed to rid a wet distributor cap and the points of water if they got wet. It's great for a quick lube but like duct tape not made for the long haul. WD means Water Displacement. Check out their website sometime for hundreds of uses.
Do they also ban outboard motors in the same places? The exhaust from those is 1000s of times worse than a spritz of WD-40. You must live in CA where everything is banned or labelled carcinogenic. lol
If it should move but won't use WD-40. If it does move but shouldn't use duct tape! If those don't work you need a bigger hammer!
Seriously tho that just seems really f'ed up unless protected waters where no outboards are allowed like the little trout lake I fish in. Outboards are just toxic to to the water as are fiberglass boats which are 100s of times more polluting than the plastics everybody freaks out about.
Was just watching a TV show about the thousand so tons per year of gear of plastic coated metal lobster and crab traps fishers are losing all along the east coast not to mention all the ghost nets just laying waste all over the world. Fuck me that a spritz of WD-40 even gets a mention in all the carnage going on out there destroying our oceans and rivers. Fuck me with a big f'n stick.
You should raise hell with your local authorities about such a stupid micro problem until they fix all the macro problems are are really the problem. I would walk around with 10oz cans of wd-40 hanging off my fishing vest at local boat launches to protest such idiocy. Not because I'm such an asshole but because I'm an asshole with a legitimate beef.
WD-40 is the best thing to use to free up a sticky reel so how can they make such a stupid law. It's like Texas where tehy outlaw pedal bikes because they don't use fossil fuels to make them move.
I'm again so glad I'm Canadian!
