Can anyone tell me what compounds the decapitated stalk contains?
Above average question! Maybe you could do an ice water extraction and collect the resin heads. Then do an alcohol extraction and have it tested to see what the difference is. I don't think the question is really answerable because every plant has different said compounds.

Hi Frenchy...Weedlaw here...Subs bud. We have met many times and I have had the luxury of tasting all of your creations up at Snake Ranch.

I have read everything you have written and watched your vids a dozen times. It seems that the mystery between extracting the goodies and working the trichomes is...drying.

I noticed in a small comment you made in the rather long thread that you use a freeze dryer. Nice. I have no need to own a home version like yours but..being a technical guy, I have created a small DIY freeze dryer.

I am using Foodsaver containers that have vacuum fittings on them. I plan to use a desiccant along with a 25 micron pad and the product from the washing machine (I purchased all the equipment you are using).

I can create a good vacuum in the container and I have a large freezer I can dial down to about 15 below zero Fahrenheit.

My question is at what point after I actually collect the trichomes should I freeze them and should I freeze them first, then put them under vacuum and then follow the rules about sublimation. Should I dry the material for 24 hours before doing the freeze dry system or start right from the extraction point to the freezer and the freeze dry process. How long do you wait before you put your product in your freeze dryer.

If my process works, I will post the materials I am using. very simple and cheap materials to both create a vacuum in a small container with a dessicant and into a very good freezer.

Thanks man. You rule. I have smoked your hash a lot and the memory has driven me to do this. I cannot live without old school hash, man.

Much love.

Weedlaw.

Hey Frenchy, Weedlaw here.

Watching your excellent video for the 20th time. Towards the end you talk about drying with a wet 45 bag in your hand with medicine in it, and you explain how you would dry if you had a drying room. But then you say you won't press it dry with a towel, etc because you want to make a big patty and being moist helps.

My question: it seems to imply you are prepping big patties for a freeze dryer. Is that what you are doing in this video? Of course, the info about extraction is amazing, down to debunking the idea that ice knocks the trichomes off. I always knew this was bunk. Ice is there to keep the water cold so the trichomes are not sticky in the collection bags. God, that makes so much sense.

Anyway, curious if the way you are collecting in this video is going towards a freeze dryer and not a drying room. I have studied sublimation a lot in the last three days and am very sure (see my note above) I can do 90% on the cheap and get very good results.

That is my question, stated again, are you using a freeze dryer during the time you made this vid? The answer will help because if you are then I won't go through the process of trying to hand dry it before going into the deep freeze and vacuum.

Love ya Frenchy...one of the best instructional vids of all time and I watch them hours a day on many topics. OLD SCHOOL HASH RULES!!!!

I get that. But at what point do we as consumers have to decide when something is a fair price or not. Im saying as a consumer 60 bucks per bag is price gouging. Not when their direct competition is 20 bucks cheaper. Then you have to consider size of the business. Do they have the ability to buy in bulk and make a profit. Or are they small time and have to charge more to cover thier overhead.
Now as a consumer i come here and see what people are using, I also go over user reviews. Complaints about things are easy to find. Like most of the bags on amazon. Lots of complaints on here and on reviews. Also those were around 30-60 for a 8 bag set.
Now I have seen a lot of good talk about Original Bubble Bags, Boldt bags, Willys bags, and another set I cant remember. Then I do a price/feature comparison and and make my choice from that.
Boldt bags were eliminated for 4 reasons, price, no single all mesh buying option, price gouge on their machine(frenchy bags @250 and machine @150 plus shipping Same machine on amazon for 99 free shipping), and incorrect sizes in their "frenchy approved set" the 160 73 and 45. When the correct bags are 190,160,45,25.
I went through their website and not one user review.

Of the 2 remaining I chose willys as they have all mesh over the Original BBags.

Sorry...I hit the reply key without a reply. Doh!!

I bought cheaper all mesh bags. I have a rather large amount of trim from someone who made it. I am going to get my rhythm and handling process down cold. Once the cheaper bags fail I will upgrade. I know the boldtbags are better just by comparing the stitching and top canvas to my bags, which I received today. Mine are all mesh but shorter and obviously not as sturdy.

But, once I dial this shit in....better bags are on the menu. The rest of the equipment can be purchased cheaper than Boldtbags, such as the washer,, because what you need is a 240 watt machine, not a 115 watt machine. The difference is the power and from what I can see, my new machine is identical to Boldtbags. They are all made in China by just a couple of factories. They are wholesaled by just two companies.

But, I know in the end the bags are what this is about. Oh, and having a good freeze drying system.

Hey daa007, as an alternative to bolt bags you might consider bubblebags. If you buy the nice ones, they are guaranteed for life.

Hey Sorry it took me so long I have not checked my RU for a while. I prepare moist patties for the freeze dryer but if I dry in a room I want to take off as much humidity as possible before chopping as fine as possible the resin and spreading it wide on parchment paper. Good luck

Cool. Thanks for the reply.

I have fashioned a cheap freeze dryer.

Foodsaver is where I got the pressure vessel. I got a square one which is 6x6x5 and a long one which is 12 x6x5. Very sturdy non-toxic plastic. They come with a fitting for a Foodsaver vacuum coupling and a small dimple that shows when the vacuum is in place. The red thing on the right with the guage on it is a simple break bleeding gun. $19 dollars for the vacuum gun and $29 for the two pressure vessels.

From Foodsaver I had to also buy, at the exorbitant price of $3 each, the 'male' coupling...which is the black piece in the picture..and a plastic tube with two fittings on either end that fit into the black coupling. I had to cut the tube in half since the other end of the tube had a Foodsaver coupling on it as well, and all I needed was a plain piece of plastic tube to fit on the red vacuum gun. If you blow up the picture, I have it at 50 mmhg (millimeters of mercury).

To test it, I cooked up some carrots and mashed them, put them in a bowl, and put 100mm of vacuum in the chamber and put them in a 5 degree freezer. It has been holding pressure for two days at this temp.

So, when I do the extraction, I will lay a layer of tyvek wrapped food grad dessicant at the bottom of the chamber, put a steel mesh on it, then another layer of dessicant (more surface area exposed this way rather than just pile it up at the bottom) and another steel mesh on top of that. I will put the 25 micron cloth with the medicine in the chamber, get it frozen first, then pull a vacuum and let it sit for a day or two. Then, put it in the refrigerator at 36 degrees for a couple of hours. This 'heating' under pressure is when sublimation happens. Then back into the freezer for a few more hours.

Of course, I will start out with a small amount. I figure i will try for removing about 70 percent of the water (I will weigh everything first so I know how much water was removed). I figure the hot water bottle and a small fan when I 'mash the terpenes' will also remove water vapor caused by the increased temp.

I will be all in at about $50. If it works, which I am certain it will, I will have a freeze dryer to meet my needs.

I will keep you guys posted. Of course, the cost of the machine, extra buckets, new dedicated bags for just this and the micron cloth probably put me back about $175. But, as Frenchy said, it pays for itself very quickly.

I had a plant left of material to wash the other day. So rather then running through all those bags, im running 2. one 190 to catch the big shit. then a 30 gallon 25mu bag. And i pretty much just wash 5 times and dump all the water through the 25. let it sit for 2 days and go rinse everything down and collect. I then dry and rosin press it into shatter. From bubble i get about 87% return at 1200 lbs and 178deg.

UPDATE: I have kept a 150mm hg of pressure in the Foodsaver container at 5F for 2 days. Not bad for a cheap pressure vessel and pump set up.

I just tried watching this newer version of Frenchy Hash making and was surprised how short of time he took agitating the trim/ice/water on the first wash?
I have studied Frenchys techniques from older videos taken and posted a couple years ago... and I recall he used to go at least 10 minutes a wash.
Im having a hard time getting through this new video. Someone thought it was cute to distort his voice and make it even harder to understand him. :-(
Again another frustrating hash making tutorial by Frenchy. Dont get me wrong, I love frenchy. I own his bags and washing machine and have painstakenly studies every move he makes so just wanted some clarification on the TIMING.. how long per wash?:leaf:
