The French Cannoli` Hash Thread

maybe the trim gets soo frozen by the dry ice that the chunks of dry ice pulverize the trim therefore leaving behind green in you hash imo
It wasn't all that green, and knocked me on my ass after 3 hits of kief over bubba kush.

My opinion is that the water molecules themselves penetrating the actual plant material produces higher yields and even better potency as opposed to air.

Ice water accomplishes this with a simple hand mixer or a washing machine if need be.

No offence to Jorge Cervantes but this dude isnt legit. He might be a celbrity on the cannabis scene but this hash making method is wack - i'm not big on his culero video or others i've seen to be honnest - i've used it the fisrt time i made hash and when i did Subs hand stir method i understood what full melt bublle hash meant!

Using a machine lower the hash quality tremendously - even when using the lowest power - as i said my second wash on my last run was a little greenish and that's already too much to me - i was hand stirring. Sure you might gain weight but weight isnt the only criterion, as i said before i wouldnt exchange a kilo of full melt bubble hash against 100g of Charas just like i wouldnt exchange 10kg of J.Cervantes hash against 100g of Frenchy's hash...

Quality is the name of the game :)

Now I'm lost, using a machine lowers the quality tremendously?...and why isn't the Frenchy method listed on page 1 of this thread?.

I wasnt talking about the Washing machine but the hand mixer. The washing machine doesnt seem to put on a beating on the leafs just like the handmixer is. The washing machine seems to move around the greater mass while the handmixer puts a lot of force in particular spots.

I dont think one could - and wants to - create that much pressure doing the hand stirring method Subcool does. I believe this is the very reason why this method works best. Just like in dry sievieng you're not suppose t beat the trim like crazy, doing it in bubble bags just creates more residue when what you want is the trichomes and only the trichomes.

I wouldnt feel good about using the washing machine myself but i guess frenchy deals with such amount of trimming that he doesnt want to do the hand stirring method, plus with such large quantity i dont think the force created by the mashine can hurt his final product. If he was putting half the trim he puts in the machine maybe it would. The ice/water/trim ratio is what it really comes down to i guess and i wont put my hands on so much trims in the near future.

With the quantity of trim i handle hand mixing is definetly the best way. Understand that when i said machine are bad i was only speaking about th e handmixer not the washing machine, but you can quickly get the difference between those two machine in the way force is apply to the trim :)

I understand, wish I had enough trim to use my clothes washing machine.:-P

What are you hand mixing with?. I ask b/c a kitchen blender seems a bad idea to begin with, doesn't reach down far enough into the icewater.

I'm thinking a drill set on low with this type of an attachment would work perfectly in 5 gals?.

Check that out :)

I'm using the same type of spoon Sub does but i'm thinking about switching to an egg whisk or a lighter material again to minimize the friction. If i understand Frenchy's theory the cold is what ease the fall of the trichomes. You wouldnt need more than the washing machine movement replicated to your scale. I guess the tool you wanna use might be to strong but Frenchy or someone more advanced than i am might give you a better answer.
To me a 30 sec clock wise/30sec counter clock wise motion with an egg whisk for 7/9 min would mimic the washing machine motion pretty nicely...

Again wait for the pros to answer you ;)

Curing very nicely, caramel color, aroma is...spicy?

May I offer a ” visual” gift of gratitude, in the form of a caramel colored tulip , a flower representing thanks and unity. You sir have given me the gift of inspiration, please accept this as; at a minimum of gift of positive feedback, and how much of an impact your passion has effected my perspective of Hashish, resin, pressed to perfection with a feeling of serenity, and the passion burns hotter as the aroma increases.

Just a wonderful experience..

Nice color up there bro^...

Keep us posted on this run please, very nice color is intriguing.

This was my first go at making hashish, and just my third time using the ice water method.

I have fallen in love with pressed hash, unconditional burning passion.

Well I emailed Stephanie at Boldtbags and unfortunately she can't offer me free shipping on the machine witch kind of sucks cause thats going to make there machine a lot more for me due to the shipping but what can you do, I'm not sure what the cost of the shipping is going to be I hope its not too much so I can order from them I really like there service and there products. I'll keep you all updated when I hear back from Stephanie
Oh one good thing is she agreed to exchange the 220 work bag for the 190 catch bag

edit; She emailed me right back with the cost of shipping $50 not too bad

Shawns - Just order the exact same one from amazon or china. It should cost around $100 plus freight which you should get for free on amazon. Loyalty is great, but why pay more for the same item. Eliminate the middle man and put the coin in YOUR bank.

Whatever you do air and wash, air and wash and repeat, those things are TOXIC smelling when they are new! Next one I buy will be left out in the sun for a bit to speed up the off gassing of who-knows-what that does not belong in hash!

Yeah I know I just looked and I can get almost the exact same one for like 120 including shipping its actually the only style suitable for what we need on amazon.ca so it comes from right here in canada thats why the shipping is cheap the machine is 99 the boldtbags machine is 200 plus 50 shipping but they are switching out the wash bag for another all mesh catch bag and I'm sure she gicing me a deal on the shipping but I see what your saying I could save myself like 130

I'm going to leave the above post, while attempting to answer my own question.

The problem with dry ice is it does not yield the usual 10% return. It works, but for one I would need to reduce end product even further down to a 90 or even 70 micron filter. I still have a slight greenish tint at 110, just finished the process. IMHO the actual water content going through the plant matter produces better results than supercooled air.

Peace
The problem with dry ice technique is the shaking which is way to hard to get quality, high quality sieving is very gentle. You are not using supercooled air to collect your trichomes, you are shaking blocks of dry ice and trims in a bag which is quite different.

Allow me to share what I have learned from the Frenchy Cannoli..

Now, my skills are no where near most of y'all, but I had such a transcendental experience through this process.
Please forgive the novice work, this is my first try.
I did photographs as I was pressing. I started with just two grams of 73 micron.

Lol, my mini cannoli.. Big thanks to Frenchy, and all that have contributed to this most wonderful thread.

I think my cannoli needs a little more pressing, is it possible to over do it?.. As in terms of hand pressing?
Welcome my friend and thanks for sharing those pics.
You will never overdo a press by hand so do not be afraid to push it until you get a full aroma and a smooth texture

Dry sieving will produce the highest quality my friend, it all depends how you do it.
I could put in front of you a dry sieve and a ice water hash made from the same trims and you would have a hard time making the difference.
The yield with water will be better, not the quality.
Cervantes is missing some important point: not enough water, an egg beater will cut the leaves and hardly move the water and ice at the bottom of the bag, especially with a large amount of ice. DO NOT put your trichomes on a cardboard and DO NOT smoke your unpressed trichomes just a day after processing, they will not be dry enough
