The French Cannoli` Hash Thread

so I was thinking, there is the level of Master Sommelier as the pinnacle of wine expertise. It should be only natural now that the industry is kicking off, that Cannabis/Hash should have something similar. I was trying to think of an appropriate title, since at this point I would say Frenchy has exemplified all traits that would be required.... so how about Maître d'hashish? Has a nice ring to it! Thanks for all the knowledge Frenchy, I learn everytime I check this thread.
In Afghanistan the best of the best are called Hashishin or Hashashin. I appreciate the title and your comparison with wine is right on the spot at many level but I am more of a wine maker trying to bring the full flavors and smell of the flowers. The wine show case the richness of the grape and the wine maker give it his "signature" when very good. I do exactly the same with trichomes as all Hash maker do. So why Hash maker today want their name first (often only their names) when it does not exist in other similar industry. A serious problem of ego.....

That was the beginning of my lecture (to be) on the history of Cannabis Concentrate. I want people to understand how far back it goes and how much knowledge there is to learn from tradition
You seem very knowledgable, not only as far as cannabis goes but in anthropology as well. It's good to see that - I wasnt expecting less - within the cannabis culture smart and educated people are coming up. When growing cannabis hash making etc already is a form of education i think cannabis will need more "schoolars" and "lecturer" to give credit to this amazing culture. We've been far to many time been seen as dumb/lazy pot smoker and hearing you speaking about the evolution of civilisation is a testament that pot has nothing to do with that image people have...

That's what the Nerd movement is about, getting like minded peolple that really love cannabis, not the "getting high" thing, but the "getting to know the plant in depth" thing - one can get fucked up on alcohool or sniffing glue but nothing like cannabis makes my mind feel at peace...and growing it makes you understand a lot about it.

Btw you know every one of us is gona be waiting for those lectures :p Watching you new videos tonight, we're lucky fucks to have you on here!

Peace!

some purple princess i just made. It was a small amount of trimming from one plant but enough to make to sore high for a day or two. I plan on pressing once its dry enough. its very stick right now. The smell is amazing, cant wait to see what it offers once I press it.July 29 002.jpgJuly 29 001.jpgJuly 29 003.jpg

I did an interesting ice water (bubble) hash experiment last week. I started out with 10 ounces of really high quality Barney's Farm LSD and TGA Third Dimension trim. By "high quality," I mean I kept the top cola and whatever was one node below it, and used the rest for hash. Probably 2 ounces were dried, the rest was fresh trim.

I made six twelve-minute runs in the washing machine, no bag in the machine (Thanks Frenchy!), and separated them in pairs: run 1 & 2 (A Grade), run 3 & 4 (B Grade), run 5 & 6 (C Grade). I used three bags -- a 160 as a trash catcher, and a 45 and 25. The 45 I kept, the 25 I used to make butter with. After a day in a cold fridge, I used a microplane to break up the masses (thanks Matt Rize!), and dried it for another day. I then decarbed in a double-boiler for 30 minutes. It's amazing the different textures that resulted, as you'll see below. The A grade is dense, black and sticky. The B grade is much greener, but could probably be pressed into a ball of hash if I worked on it. The C grade is like powder, and wouldn't press no matter what you did to it.

Grade A yielded 5.5 grams, grade B, 4 grams, grade C, 3.5 grams.

I cured in jars for a few days, then sent each sample off to the lab for analysis. The A grade was 48%, B grade 22%, C grade 14%.

Based on this, I'm going to do 2 runs and call it a day. It will seriously lower the yield, but since it's all headstash for me, that's fine.

I recently processed more batches of the same Kush trim that I was posting pics of before, but this time I focused on really pressing the hash thoroughly. I flattened the hash with the hot water bottle and re-rolled into a ball at least 5 times. Pics are the 73 micron cannoli. I am harvesting 4 Timewreck phenos from seed here very soon so I will have new strain material to work with and take pics of the resulting hash.

Sup Frenchy & fellow Nerds!

a bit off topic, does anyone know the name of Johns Dispensary in Oregon that TC & Frenchy just visited in the recent dank hunters episode, also which town/city it's in. There's a few nerds on the channel asking bout it and I thought I'd find out as they can go and pickup some flowers/beans.

cheers guys!

I agree with the 70 bag, I run with a 73 and a 38, the 38 is never as tasty as the 73 and none of my 38 ever 'melt', the 73 is my fav as the majority of the time it melts and the terpenes are always there.

ive been keeping the 38 and pressing it as after reading someone's (I'm not gonna give the guy any more promotion) tests by steep hill (I think), the 38/40 bag actually tested quite high if not the highest in THC levels over a 70 and 120 bag (can't remember exactly ;p) but it surprised me anyways!
but I'm noticing now it just gets left in the jar and hardly smoked as I generally don't like the taste, it's ok sometimes if the 70 is really fruity, but I'm just gonna save it for tincture or medibles from now on and not other pressing it.

so Id def recommend getting a 70 bag too, as you'll notice the difference straight away!

Since the 45 catches everything that would have been caught by a 70, I don't see how quantity would increase :)
You got a good point here, don't know what I was thinking, anyway try the 70 for the quality, the difference is huge.
I am working on the 2013 Pinot and it is hard to keep up the thread so you have to bare with me

Sieving is all about not only catching but also separation. The reason that the 70 bag is best quality, as opposed to a combo of everything between 160 and 45, is that it separates the 159 thru 70 micron sizes trichomes (ie the fully ripe trics, strain dependent of course) from the immature / partial pieces of trics. 45 and smaller have less percentage resin and more percentage membranes etc (junk), and 25 is more contaminated and even smaller partial pieces of the goods.

if I could only collect out of one bag each run it would hands down be the 70 micron!

If you know what you are doing with agitation and the grower harvested at maturity, you will be surprised at how much melty 70 yield can be had of quality trim.
