The Future Now!

A couple things come to mind, and please bare with me, as I am thinking outloud now....One known problem with T-5's is that the light is spread over a very wide area, and I wonder if this is going to be a problem with LED's too.

I dont have alot of info about LED's only what I've read, and I must admit that I do read alot when something interests me. Growing really interests me, not only pot, but gardens too.

I do feel that the technology is young and expensive. I can get past the high upfront expense part, to some degree. I would want some more re-assurance from people who have done it with great success before I sign on though.

I wouldn't mind paying, say $1000.00 for a LED setup, if my electric bill was alot less than with my HPS light, and if the results were near as good too.

I remember when I was planning my grow months ago, and I really wanted to do the grow with T-5's I knew there were alot of positives using the T-5's, but I also knew that if I got my wife to go along on the grow, and I fucked it up, there would be no 2nd grow. lol

Technology is a funny thing, I've owned a computer store for many years and I remember paying like $1100.00 for my 1st digital camera, and it was black & white, and held like 12 pictures only. I even remember paying $1200.00 for a 540 meg hard drive. Yes that was megs, not gigs! lol

Point is, I dont want the technology to advance on my dollar.

Of course I'd be all too happy to provide moral support in the mean time. I do think it is exciting.

While I do agree with video, considering my knowledge and money situation this kind of experiment is not for me but I'm not sure why you'd want to convince others not to try it. Someones gotta be the pioneer right? Godkas seems to have the knowledge (and hopefuly the money) to try something like this so why not encourage him and learn from his research? We can assume that the way we're doing things now is the best way... or we could try other ways and be sure! Besides, having the first LED grow journal on rollitup will probably grant instant celebrity status. haha. The world will be watching Godkas. haha. PEACE

I love this post, Im planning to buy super-nova which is $1000-1500 LED light system from somewhere(idk).
the website said (if i remember correct) basic super-nova is better than 600w HPS for veg/flower and Watt consumption is 1/8 vs. HPSs.
actually I found super-nova / UFO from high-time magazine.
and now i found more LED light manufacturers in ur post.

now, I wanna point out couple things.

9w LED = 240w HPS (WRONG)

I check 3 website(2from this original post and hid-hut) and i figure LED lights have about 15-20% energy consumption vs HID.
Which means 10w LED = 50w HPS = 50W T5 (at least)
which means(again!) 600w HPS can be replaced by 120-100w LED(if u have right spectrum LED lights)

and price to purchase 240w super-nova is $1,000. (240w super-nova is little better than 1,000w HPS or 2 600w HPS, their web-site said)
and price to purchase 2 of 600w HPS is about $1,000(this is how much i paid for it)

elec. bill per month of 2 of 600w (12/12) is about $40.
elec. bill per mounth of 240w super-nova(12/12) should less than $10.

now, you calculate.


I'm not really ready to change whole my lights to LEDs YET, but soon.
Before i do that, i have to figure out what light I will use to cover full-spectrum.
LED bulb has unique wave lengths. usually 1 LED light has many LED bulbs, and those bulbs can have only 1 specific wave length.
which means LED bulb is good for focusing little # of wave lengths(nm), and NOT good for full-spectrum(I can say any full-spectrum LED out there now, is bullshit)
so, to cover uncovered wave lengths(yellow, green, dark blue) by LED(red and/or blue), i have to use something naturally makes full-spectrum, such as fluorescent, incandescent, or HPS, MH.
(plants use red for flowering and blue for vegging MOST, doen't mean they use ONLY red and/or blue. they need all others too(far less than red/blue but YES).)

I'm still collecting info. for LED lights, and i have plan to change/compare very soon for both vegging and flowering. I hope i can post more info 1-2month later.
