The Getting Back/In Shape Thread

I really never got why dudes cut so much weight. It does not make sense to me, but if it works for them, so be it.

Silva is somewhat 1 dimensional in that he skill bjj. On the other hand, gsp has olympic level wrestling skills, incredible ground game, boxing, takedowns, counters, and he to has plenty of reach.

Dont get me wrong, silva is a beast, but gsp is a more well rounded fighter.

I would think anderson to be much stronger. anderson is a big dude. he cuts a lot of weight to make 185. anderson is taller, bigger, stronger, and got the reach advantage. I'm a fan of GSP but I don't think he could beat silva

they wouldn't fight for a belt at catchweight, but they'd call it a superfight. mad money to be made on all sides. but I think diaz is willing to go 185 to fight. he used to fight at 185 in strikeforce
I understand what a superfight is. What I am saying is that they should put on 10 more pounds and go for the title.

Damn, did you shoulder piain start after doing p90x?

Thats gotta suck man...

Any diagnosis?

I started working out again as of January, so far down to 218 from 245. Was doing really well with P90X but messes my shoulder up so I gotta stick to cardio till I have surgery in the fall.

Anyone else doing p90x?

ya I hear ya but you forgot to mention Silva has sick stand-up. better than GSP in my opinion. I was a hardcore fan of GSP till he started fighting safe fights. you rarely see his stand-up anymore cause he's into cage control to much. which makes for lackluster fights and decision wins for him

he probably would fight at 185. but I think he'd rather fight at 170. so a catchweight would even things out a little. and it's a win/win situation for everyone

Thats my point, they both have to cut to x weight at weigh in, if not they dont allow the title to be won or lost.

They do however put on a bit more weight after the weigh in, which again, to me would slow em down some, not much.

It might be a placebo, who knows...

So they can be the bigger man on fight night.

His goal is to win, as is anyones goal. If winning means using cage control, so be it... Gsp has some sick counter take downs too.

Gsp has a good stand up too, he just knows how to defeat his opponent efficiently

The smaller guy usually has better cardio because he is not as stressed as the bigger guy that had to starve and not drink water for 24 hours. But if the bigger guy has done it before and does it right, he has a definite advantage.

Yes, but if silva is slightly not much bigger and gsp is just as muscular and better conditioned, gsp would have a shot.

Silva is no chump, he is just as good, but to me is lacking in ground game and take down defense.

Gsp, ive never seen him in a muay thai clinch, which silva is notorious for doing, so its a close match

Basically the question at hand is would GSP be able to cross 'no mans land' aka stand with silva when he isnt pounding him on his back. Theres no question he could throw silva down and easily pound him, but look what happened to chael.

it's mostly water weight they lose. dehydrating themselves. they gain most of it back after weigh ins. it's a matter of handling the weight cut and not being too drained from the weight cut to perform at your best

I have a SLAP Lesion, had it happen in college from a sports injury. It causes shoulder instability and generally sucks. Surgery is the only answer but I can have full recovery within 6-12 months.

I had a bone spur in my right shoulder and the surgeon said I probably have one in the left and that could cause the injury. I've done P90X, insanity Asylum and started P90X2 when the pain got too much to handle.

So now I'm running to stay/get in shape and will start weight training again after the new year

take care of that man... sounds like you got it in check though...

I am hoping you have great rehab/physical therapy and a safe return to your exercise routine.

lol! mate, it's called genetics and not everyone has good genetics. you work with the cards your dealt with. I've never been a fat fuck but it's probably cause it's not in my genetics. I'm an ecto/mesomorph. I know of people who just pack on weight easily and have a hard time getting it off. as for me, I can sit on my ass for weeks on end and eat a bunch of junk food and still not gain weight. it's just the genetics I'm dealt with.

first off we keep it positive in this thread so dont be comin in here with that negative bullshit. it didnt say first you were fat/get into shape it said gettin back into shape regardless of your bodytype. i was skinny as hell an had to work my ass of to put in 20lbs since may which in my eyes is way harder than a fat person losin weight cause its extremely hard for me to gain. as greenhorn said its just somes genetics that make them fat an you cant help that.

8 miles on a bike is nothin btw an doin that over an over wont have you in the best shape possible you just level out at a certain point. here we're strivin to constantly improve not be content with the body/shape/strength we have.
