Wouldn't work for mediumless as your clones would be rooted many weeks before you need them plus they would be too small so you would then have to veg them.
Hey Klx, sorry to pester you with yet more questions. I have actually been reading through a lot of threads in order to try and get the information required, and to avoid having to ask questions that may have already been asked,.....but more often than not in the threads I'm reading you pop up as being the guy most likely to be able to help!
Having built a aero cloner thats pretty much identical to yours, and wanting to use it to support the clone production for flood tables like you do, with no down time in between,...... I'm seeing more and more that mastering the cloning consistency is going to be a key thing in both uninterrupted grows, quality of clones, and also being able to keep a minimal amount of mother plants.
So far, I've actually had reasonable success with the aero cloner, apart from the second run being with bore water which seems to have hindered things as per one of my previous posts in this thread. But I don't think even my best run was quite as fast as yours so I wonder if you would mind giving a little more insight regarding your technique?
Do you employ your 15/15 on/off for the pump timer right from the start when you put a new bunch of clones in your cloner? (I tried using a timer on various ratios when I first built my cloner, but even with a 15/45 off/on I still got severe wilting and so ended up just running it permanently on. Having said that, I have just recently noticed (by accidentally leaving the pump timer off) that after the clones have been in the cloner for a few days I do seem to be able to have the pump off for quite a while without wilting regardless of weather the clones have any root development or not. So I'm interested in what your practice and observations are.
Do you run an air stone in your cloner? Sorry if you have answered that already. I have poured through so many different threads in the last few days I can't remember!
Do you use any rooting compounds at all?
With all the above I am always mindfull that various strains are faster to root than others. But I'm also seeing quite different results on even the same strain, in different runs.
To date I have had:
Clones keen to start banging out roots in as little four days or so.
Clones sitting for 3 plus weeks doing almost nothing (the run done with the bore water). These clones eventually started showing what appeared to be iron def in their new leaves, and after checking everything I noticed that the PH was 7+. But trying to continually adjust the PH of this water down (ph down was nitric acid) eventually led to the rez EC having climbed to .2-.3. and the clones showing nitrogen claw despite still not having any roots. Although it did remedy the iron def type symptoms quite quickly
Clones that seem so happy in the cloner that they continue to grow almost as fast as they would if left on the mother plants, but are still quite slow to produce roots. (Almost like they aren't bothered growing roots because they don't need to!)
After getting a bit desperate to harvest more clones (mothers getting outa control, F&D tables needing to be refilled with plants in near future, while cloner is still full due to slow rooting times!) I quickly made a bubble type cloner a week ago today with small circulating pump and air stone, and whacked a batch of clones in there with the stems slightly in water. I see today that a few of those are showing small roots, and if it weren't for your posts and my previous results with aero cloner, I probably would have concluded the bubble cloner is the way to go. But my previous experience along with your posts leads me to believe that the aero cloner will be the way to go if i can just get it dialed on properly.
Any further help/insight you can give would be very much appreciated!
Cheers!
