I understood this part recently.... after sexing my plants. My first time around, I was fimming and sometimes weird things would happen, and it was hard for me to tell which were the 2 dominants. Now I top and it's very clear!

When you top your plants after sexing, do you top them and let them recover and get fatter before cutting everything below or you cut everything at once?

congrats on your article for weed world

i top the main and everything under the (clone) node below the hub......in other words leave the "hub" and the "clone" nodes....everything else goes away.....as long as each axial stem has a nice big fanner to power it, it will not stunt.......then the next pinch is determined by how long you want the 2 mains .....the clone stems are removed as soon as they can make a nice sized clone with a symetrical axial scar to dip into the gel....about 5 inches long from the bevel cut to the growing top (with the scars being 1/2 inch to 1 in above the bevel )...basic cloning.........then you are just left with the hub to manage, and its up to the grower how spread out he wants the manifold, that usually tells him exactly when to prune for 4 and 8......

...the reason Main-Lining is considered advance method, is it operates on the assumption the growers knows how work a plant within his system already....simple things like knowing how to take a perfect clone, or make a plant stretch out, or stay compact....its common knowledge stuff.......that is the main reason i don't/won't offer day-to day instruction guildlines, or measurements etc...its so much more of a communication thing between the grower and the plant, and some of these concepts can only come from experience....

You are such a great teacher though and you explain it in ways we can understand.

The reason I asked for days on your updates was not so I could follow them exactly, but so I could have a guideline to follow. And if I grow the same strain with the same setup, I could theoretically use the exact same timing as you do.

I am thinking about creating a graphic of your process and making two types - one for 8/16-head Indica dom shorties and one for 16/32-head Sativa dom stretchers. This may make it easier for people to understand. I still see many people missing the point of mainlining and I think this way they can visualize it more easily.

Out of my three mainliners I only broke heads off of the one I let grow longer. I let it grow longer because the ones where I topeed sooner took forever to recover. They were outside though and I am going to move this inside now and try it with a Jillybean. I am sure the TGA vigor will make this a much easier process.

Thank you for sharing your method and for providing such stunning photographs! You are truly an inspiration to us all.

I want to get certified by Nugbuckets to grow using the manifold technique!

Cheers,
Mo

Anytime i run something i don't know much about, i just figure OG's, other kushes and indicas dom. strains are lighter feeders........A good rule of thumb with Sub's strains is 50% average across the board.....little less for indica dom. strains, and a touch more for sativa doms.....but one should always go light for the first run of a pheno, and have the ability to supplement if needed by watching the color of the plant throughout the cycles....always best to run light, than heavy...heavy will stress the plant, sometimes stunting if she decides to lock out, missing her full potential by a wide margin.....under feeding, you will may end up with a heavy fade, a slightly lighter yield, but extremely clean-tasting herb....with an accurate expression of terpenes.......i could go on and on.....

...so i guess to answer your question...if it were me, i would go 20% on the OG...and 40-45% on the AO........nugs
Thanks Nugs. I'm gonna run with that and see how she does. Much appreciated. :peace:

THANKS!

I am so proud of myself :eyesmoke: that's what I had done!

Checkout my seeded Spacebomb (spacebomb x spacebomb) I collected a couple seeds, they are ready! I wonder if I should leave em on the plant or collect them before they fall off because they are very tiny seeds I don't want to lose any, very precious to me!! Those will be my next mainlining project.

Here's my plant from back on page 193 of this thread, quick solo shots in the tent. Sorry for the HPS lighting...

As you can see she is ripping at day 19 of flower, and the tops are about 23" from soil line. With 4 main colas instead of 1, I am already anticipating 4x my last yield of this strain.

Nugs another question for you......

When your pheno hunting and come accorss a plant that starts to get random extra blades in the leafs do you automatically rule it out or continue to give it a shot. The last plant I had with this has serious issues so I'm wondering if the plushberry of mine that just showed extra fingers in the center of the more mature leafs is worth cloning.

some extremely dank phenos have some pretty strange traits....i would run her and see how she turns out, you just can't argue with dank, no matter what the leaves look like....

Congrats Nugbuckets! Subcool's knowledge shared with yours has changed a lot of peoples lives for the better!!!!

You both deserve serious kudos and I believe some financial reward....Get that SuperSoil marketing in bags with a mainlining DVD!!!

Talk about over grown the world!!!!

Not just true with plants :-)
It takes a lot more skill and attention when the plants are older and the stems are woodier as far as pinching and bonding is concerned....the younger the plant, the more supple and takes bondage easier.
Hi everyone (nugbuckets in particular, of course). I have spent the last several days reading through this thread, jumping to and fro. With such wonderful info and after seeing the results, I'm stoked to give Main Lining a try. I wonder if you might be so kind as to answer a few basic questions for me. I'm sure these have been answered, but forums don't exactly have an index or table of contents so it is very hard to find specific info... :) What is the total veg time from seedling->flower. I will most likely use clones, if I can get decently symmetrical ones. I plan on doing 4 plants under a 600w HPS. So from a 4" or so clone, veg to flower, about how long? Thanks so much for the awesome thread nugbuckets and everyone else involved!!

Main-Lining Process...Up Close...(because you asked)........now pay attention....:leaf:
......the young plant is 7 inches tall working on it's 7th node....it has spent the last 5 days in a 12/12 cycle until she (in this case) threw a tiny female pre-calyx....two nodes are chosen, one (upper) for the "hub", and a second (lower) for clones.....everything else above and below the two chosen nodes is removed leaving this, it is then transplanted into a 2 gal pot to veg.

..then the plant (in this case) is pruned for four at the hub while the two clones below it are left to elongate until they are primo for cutting......:leaf:

.......note: the two mains in this pic are a bit too short for a typical Main-Line, this will be a Main-Lined bonzai plant...ideally the two main stems from the hub should be between 2 and 3 inches long....in this pic they are just over 1 inch.

...when the clones are the perfect size, they are removed, leaving behind a plant with 4 main leaders..........:leaf:

......when they are long enough to satisfy the growers preference, they are pinched to make 8 leaders and so on......
