Growth to 6 node was nugbuckets original recommendation, and the most discussed aspect of the method. It seems like a waste, but it does allow time for a healthy root system to form. Plants can aggressively respond if they have adequate resources, and that starts in the roots! I've never had so much a leaf droop after topping, a good sign.

Next crew change I will top 2 at 6 nodes and 2 I will pinch tops out of as soon as possible. will see the difference but I think the idea is that new growth will push out faster if it is well established first where it will just chug along slowly if topped early.

Hey I've already started this experiment myself. I topped 4 at the 3rd node as soon as the 4th was starting. And left two untopped and will be topping in a day or two when the sixth node shows.
Last veg run I felt the mainlining took forever to get the plants ready for flower. So much so it put me way behind and scrambling for smoke waiting for my next harvest.
They r growing slowly after topping except
For one leggy sat dominant that's gunning forward like nobody's business.

exotic genetics citrus berry after the first topping. One of them (lower right) is 4 or 5 days behind so I've just bound the fan leaves so it knows my intent once the growth nodes are a bit longer. That plant at the lower left is block 14 comfrey going beast mode... Believe it or not that thing was just a little muddy dead looking crown 3 weeks ago.

I'm still trying to dial in how high to keep the lights. They are POWERFUL! I have had some bleached bud tips on just about all
My runs so far. Now mind you I only have 5ft height. My thought was maybe minimal bleaching was meaning anything below those tips is for sure getting maximum intensity for growth? Wonder if you have any insight on this. I've thought about emailing Mark but just haven't.

I typically end up burying the lower branches, and end up
wanting the highest up strong set that are still fully balanced.
(i.e. they start to alternate after some point)
That sort of determines the node to use in the end.

It usually takes 8 or 9 weeks for Me rooted clone/sprout til flower. I've got 4 all of the same clones from the same mother that are just starting to root so I will be trying it soon, they are alternating nodes so it will be a little different but useing all the same clones should take out any genetic variation.

I'm looking at using Connoisseur Genetics: Super Silver Sour Diesel Haze as my second grow.
How many colas should I do for the first attempt?
I'm guessing the only downfalls of this method are the additional time it takes to get those however many main tops. And possibly a hungrier-thirstier plant, right?
8 colas is kinda the starting point, requiring two toppings. More colas more toppings, more time. It does add time as that 3rd node takes time to stretch out and colas to grow. As far as hungrier-thirstier, no difference there from other training methods, that's leaf and bud dependent. A well established thick canopy with any training will transpire more than a skimpy canopy

Anyone main line clones? I have a 2x2.5 tent with a 2x2 t5 8 bulb?
I plan on putting them in 3 gallon fabric pots? I started training them, But I have not cut anything yet?

I use the Nebula method and if you look back to my dried weight on my first attempt, I nearly got a full pound with only a 400 w bulb and 5 plants in 5 gallon pots.
Attempting to beat it this time by better canopy management. But a new strain and new learning curve might not allow for that.
Anyhow, I'm topping for 8 tonight and have decided to use an "anchor line" setup to hold and shape the lower branches. Has anyone else had success with something like this?
And yes, they're getting caged up after the chop.
Also, look at what one week difference makes if you notice the plants in the background topped for the initial 2 branches. They sprouted only 7 days after the main plants in these pictures.
