The Main-Lining Thread

Hi Y'all! Newbie here! Got my first grow in flower which got way out of control for my space so I'm trying the manifold/ mainlining technique this go around. Not sure if I'm supposed to keep topping if one side gets taller or just tie her down? I don't want to get to wide. Also am I supposed to be pruning her more?
This is after a week in flower. They are stretching and I started to stake them. I have trimmed the bottoms. I am worried I will have to add the extension on my tent if the Cali-O and Cheese do not stop stretching.
I used bud blood in week one to help with the stretch but the Sativa in these two strains is showing her stretch.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. I've got to keep them short. I cant let them get over about 30" tall before transferring to the flower room. And I have about 4 weeks before the flower room will be freed up.

I have been able to open the windows and turn off the A/C
Temps are below 80 and RH is at 40%
I hope the cooler weather is on the horizon.
These are recent pics, today is day 19 of 12/12
I think the stretch is over. Two days now and no vertical growth on the cheese(front left)
and the cali-o which is in the back left and back right.
so I am still using the FFOF, grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom.
I used bud blood in week one of flower.
My question is my light is 15" inches from the taller plants and I will raise the three critical widows.
They seem to be fine at that distance and the penetration seems to be great.
Any input on the 315cmh canopy penetration?
Should I trim the lower part of the plants more?
Thanks

Looking good. Any reason you didn't use tomato cages? Just curious.

At this point I would only trim leaves if absolutely necessary. Try tucking your larger fan leaves that may be blocking colas or lower growth sites.

Remember, your plants are no longer focusing on growing leaves, only flowering.

Tuck till you can't anymore, and cut only if absolutely necessary.

So I'm getting ready to try another main line grow. Picked up some TGA Subcool Jinxproof beans that I'm hoping to start germinating tonight.

Anyone had any luck with Go Time, Hurkle, Tap Out, or this tester Strawberry Diesel x Space Dude?

Doing my homework to see which two I wanna run at the same time in my 4x4x7 closet.

Any input from people who may have grown one of these strains in a main lined grow is welcomed! Thanks in advance!

This is probably a stupid question but, when using tomato cages, do you make sure all if the branches are on the inside of it or does it matter?

Not a stupid question. I had it wrong myself until I asked here.

Outside. Train your girls to grow outside of the cages using soft ties.

I give mine plenty of room in the spots I use the soft ties, so don't over tighten them into place. A) helps prevent pinching B) allows for easy adjustment as your girls grow up and out.

Decided to pop all the Go Time beans at once. More control during the grow.

Yes the reason I did not use tomato cages was my tent is 4'x2' and the bamboo allowed me to make a square in each pot so I have the colas close together but far enough so light can penetrate through the canopy.

As I have stated this is my first tent grow but not my first grow. My old flowering room was 3x1000w hps
Each light had its own niche. One light was for commercial buds that finished in less than 55 days(a lot of cash crop ken clones) One light was for medium yielding high quality strains that had different finishing times and one light was for my sativas. I had apple pie and hazey both would take 14 plus weeks and needed a lot of work and space and of course time.

I also had a clone/grow area that was 400hps and t5 that allowed me perpetual.

Now I am in a 450 sq ft apartment LOL

I have never used 315cmh so we will see what this light can produce.

I was just admiring your plants. FWIW I've read and believe that buds themselves have very few photo receptors or whatever its called on a plant. so in my experience leaves getting sun is more important than the bud its self.....

i also have moved from a large house to something much much less and for a higher price.

does anyone reading this thread happen to have a link or remember anyone growing where they compare main-lining to just plain old trimming and canopy management?

my plants are only 4 toppers and look perfect but IDK....maybe just the anticipation of 2 month veg is playing mind games

This is my first mainlining attempt and I am wondering about the future results as well? I had the space before so I used two gallon pots for everything but the sativas(5 gallon) and I had a drip system(except the sativas hand watered only) so I didn't have to worry about watering every day. I always added my nutrients by hand(avoided mucking up my drip system. All the results show this technique is promising. I may attempt at trying this with clones next?
Here is a easy sativa 5 mainlines left over from outdoors and I kept her inside. This is day 20 of 12/12.
She is in a small pot which requires daily watering but I am looking forward to seeing how this "outdoor" plant does?

I too have had to shrink my grow.
Currently in 4x2 tent in a closet.
The closet causes it to hold heat more as I can exhaust (cant cut hole not my house).
In the past I had 2 1000s and 3 600s hps.
Very hard to adapt to small grows and manage to keep enough smoke around.

Outdoor grows are a thing of the past as well.
First I had to move off-site as owner wont allow, but 2 yrs in a row the crop was a loss as I couldnt be there to maintain it, either stolen or mites.

So I have to make my limited indoor space super productive!
Does the mainlining seem to yield more that scrogging would?
Seems mainlinging takes way more veg time, for a perpetual grower that is a one time setback, but for me it would be an extra month each grow?

I've only done the 'full' mainlining once and it took too long in veg for my needs. I've experimented this time, following the mainlining technique for 2 toppings and spreading out with just a little LST, then, just letting them get on with it.

Not quite as neat and tidy as a full 'manifold', but knocked 2-4 weeks off veg time this way, suppose it'll work better with some plants than others and knowing the stretch characteristics of the plants before flowering would help too(these were all a bit of a mystery)

Edit.............I think it's important to cut after the 3rd node on both toppings to do it this way and I think I should have been more extreme with the LST, just to spread the base of the plants a little more.

I like the hybrid technique, and they look great!
Very green and filling in great.
What do you have in there?
Especially interested in that sativa in the back right!

The sativa's an Afghan haze bastard from gage green, I've got a sister of hers' near finishing in the other tent, they're extremely vigorous and the other one's buds are getting massive and full of crystals, cutting root in a few days..........they're very impressive plants, but finiky feeders, the other one is just about holding on to it's last few fan leaves, trimming is gonna be minimal.
The front left plant is a mystery Bodhi and the one back left is a Fat purple from Hazeman, I've seen others with proper purple buds, seems I didn't get that pheno, but the leaves on mine are a green with purple tinge
