The "MIR" aero system v.2

Hello everyone.

I am reposting this thread, as it got dumped by rolliup's system crash.

There will initially be only dated pictures, as I don't have all of the text.


Our goal was to do our new Low Pressure Aero system with only LED lighting. We are using one MAGNUM 357+ over eache 4'x4' area.

The room is now sealed, with CO2.

We are using Heavy 16 and some other additives, like Root Accelerator, Great White, and Prime.

Sorry for dumping these in groups, but I am really busy right now.

As you can see, day 35 and everything is filling in pretty well. There is a lot more vitality in the middle. 357 magnum+ led manufacturer says that they keep white light focused in the middle, to encourage growth leaning in. I am not sure about this explanation.

My feeling is that if this light was a little bigger, and square, it would be better suited for a 4x4 grow area. Right now it seems like we are getting a 46"x36" area. I am not sure if the outside areas would be stronger with a bigger light, as SCROG has me angling braches all over the place.

One thing to keep in mind with the magnum is that we are doing this entire grow for 714 watts, with no heat coming off the lights. That means no fans on ventilated hoods, no constant air conditioning, no red hot ballasts, and no burnt plant tops. Assuming flower goes like other grow journals I have seen, I think the LED is the right way to go. I certainly can't say that these lights are doing a bad job. I just think they need to be square and slightly larger. Maybe a Magnum 657.

I am looking at the HrydroGrow Penetrator 336x pro. The size seem much better, but the obvious issue in the extortionate price. Over 2k.

OK, this is from yesterday, we have significant growth and the plants are powering through nutrients.

I have been forced to move a couple of the plants back under the screen, as they were getting much taller than other growth.

On day 35 we trimmed out all the undergrowth from the canopy. I have also started grabbing some of those shoots for new clones.



Question: Should I be clearing out any of the fan leaves above the canopy? It is getting thick and some to the smaller shoots are getting covered.

I asked about this before, but what is with this twisting? I am not getting any discoloring and the leaves seem to mostly straighten out.

I am thinking tomorrow. That would be day 41 of veg. My goal is to get this dialed in to a 30 day veg. From what I have been seeing, most people are having to go 45 days, so I don't see 41 as a failure.

OK, here are some pictures of the plants from today. It is Day 41, I did a reservoir change and we switched over to 12/12.

We are still have the twisting. Seems to go away mostly, but would love to know what this is:



Came across two issues today. One plant exhibited a nutrient deficiency. I think that this was from a ph drop. We missed a check one night. It is only one plant though.



Second issue was that one plant has a branch in the darkest area. That branch looks kind of sickly. Funny thing is that the other branches look fine.



Given how sensitive these systems are to bad pH and nutrients, I am definitely thinking that we will install the auto nutrient machine.

Turns out today is day 41. Just checked my calendar.

Sick branch is bouncing back, so it was probably the clogged jet. Nutrient deficiency, on the one plant, doesn't appear to be progressing and it actually looks better, so I think that's fine too.

Biggest problem I am having at this point is that the vitality is going a bit haywire. I have a lot of fan leaves above the canopy, which are blocking smaller shoots.

The roots are going nuts too. They have progressed down the lateral tubes and down the center return to the reservoir, and 20 inches into the reservoir. Floating around.

Should I be trimming some of those fan leaves??

Anyway, here are the pictures from day 2 of flower:

Here are some pictures from yesterday. Everything looks fine. Still pulling clones, but probably not many more.

These are some pictures of day 5. I am not getting sufficient vitality from the corners of the the grow area. Also the narrow side of the light appears to be too narrow for a 4x4 grow area.

I am thinking that these lights are good for a 44"x 34" grow area. They do a good job at that size.

In the middle I am getting big vitality. I am wondering if there is anything I should be doing to thin the growth above the canopy??

I have located a light in china, which is apparently made with the same components as the HydroGrow light (did tons of research). I have had them configure one with the same LED's as the HydroGrow light and I am getting it sent over.

I don't think that this light is better than the 357magnum, I just need a light, which is big enough to do 4x4.


I will report back when I get it. Who knows, maybe I will go into the LED light business.....

I wouldn't trim anything off so early in flower. Let them complete their initial strectch phase. Once your stretching stops or slows, it'll be time for your plants to concentrate on bud development. Think about strategic pruning at that time, but hold off for now. The plants are still developing their structure, so you don't want to cut anything off just yet. I know things might look pretty hectic now, but let them stretch some more and they'll space themelves out allowing for better light penetration.

That second photo looks like a no-veg lollipop job.
