The Truth About Flushing

Well! I just finished reading this thread and I am very intrigued. I just happen to have 5-7 days remaining with two trays, all plants in individual 3 gallon bags....
So I am considering drowning one tray and not the other which should give a relatively fair comparison. Up to now everything has received equal treatment with regard to all the variables, feeding, etc.... I have an adequate number of 5gal buckets available to me so what I can do is place each plant in one tray into 5gal buckets filled with water pH'd to ~5.8 with one day of light then let them remain in the buckets with the lights off for an additional 5 days in the dark. Does this sound to be on target or am I missing any important steps or information?

sounds like ya got it covered, please let us know your results

well u have to watch for water level...they drink like crazy for a lil while which u need to keep an eye on the level and top it off as needed...i usually mark the bucket just above the water line...and u will notice that the tree stops drinkin...i count 5 days from there...also i dont ph the water...not to sure if it matters but i just use tap water...as we are basically assisting in killing the plant, at which the fermentation proccess begins


not to sure if u guys have refined this process more but thats how i do her~!

if you use five gallon buckets can you just place the buckets in a plastic bag to catch the runoff and just keep an inch or so in the bottom of the bag to keep it drowned, or do you have to keep the water level as high as the soil line?

Simply must keep all the roots O2 starved, really does not matter how you do it

I have some 3ga pails I am using and I plan to water them until I get runoff, and then slip them inside another pail and water slowly.

hey riddleme - some advice please?
ive got a nice plant in week 8 of 12/12 and buds are looking beautiful - OG Kush x Bubba Kush. buds have about 1/2 red hairs (sorry right now i still cant get the handheld microscope steady enough to really focus on the trichomes)
vegged under cfl's for 5 weeks and flowered under 250w HPS. shes had biobizz organics the whole way through.
i was thinking about chopping her down in about 5 days; what would you recommend i do in regards to nutrient feedings until then? should i be tapering off the dosage? ive been using Ripen by GHE for a few feeds now, and im still on full strength nute feedings (bio grow, bloom, algamic and topmax - if you are familiar) as recommended by biobizz

growing in 60% sterile soil/40% perlite
ph balanced water always around 6.3-6.6
temps in flower area are not so great but i cant do that much about it right now
68 F in dark and 90 F (highest) with lights on

I am not familiar with any of those nutes and all I can tell you is that I feed till the end, I have never understood holding back nutes at what is the plants most crucial time. I mean its whole purpose in life is to get laid and make seeds. If she don't get laid she gets frustrated, the more frustrated she gets the bigger she swells trying to get laid.

Now if your following me here you can see that this easily translates into the human world, hell my 3rd wife had 8 surgeries and spent over 138 thousand dollars trying to have a kid (luckily we had insurance LOL) (and for those of you now in suspence, we had the kid and he is in college now) but (and if your married you'll understand better) god help the man that comes in during those last two weeks and says honey I'm sorry but the insurance is gone and we can no longer afford this infertility stuff

That is what your doing to your plants by following the forum myths, you are telling your plants (the same plants you have doted over for months and taken such special care of) sorry honey we can no longer indulge in your desire to have babies, nutes are exspensive and here is some water for you do with it what you can and good luck

just to clarify, and sorry if youve answered this already but im so tired and reading through all the pages just isnt a possibility right now -
how about "harvesting after a dry few days" ie without any feeding to "help reduce drying time and decrease chances of mold"
just more myths? or good info?

I did say it somewhere, that current practices are all about being lazy, and reduce drying time is all about being greedy, longer the dry time better the buds (unless you have a chamber LOL) cause they keep fermentin while they are drying (they don't know no better, lucky for us) but mold does happen and this is where due dilligence comes in, first by optimizing the conditions for the dry/cure and second by continueing to dote over em check them bitches OFTEN

I posted in my update yesterday how I burp my jars and how I check em every 10 minutes, why??? cause I know if they go to far (get to dry) the cure (fermentin) is over and I don't want that, same with my jars I look at em 6 to 10 times a day cause I don't want mold and cause when they are ready to burp I burp em. The biggest mistake you can make is trying to put them on your schedule, once again these are ladies and we need to be on thier schedule if we want the reward

I taper off nutes in the final week. Nothing massive to the point of deficiencies showing up but most feeding labels show a taper in the later part of the flowering cycle. Who says the need mega energy at the end anyways? The flowers are already formed are they not? They are swelling yeah for sure, but its not like new flowers are growing.

Maybe the don't need all those nutrients in the last week? I certainly don't see anything negative when I dilute by 50%. (I don't change my rez the last week, I take half of the water out and replace with tap). My theory, and yes it is just a theory is that A. They don't need all those nutes in the last week. B. It helps for a more effective flush. ad C. The tap flush will be that much less stressful on them as salt concentrations won't drastically drop from 1500ppm to 27ppm. This is hydro though, if you are in soil, I would definitely reduce feeding.

Ok,,, sorry, One more time... any preference on the temps during this flood stage? Lights out during night will be fairly cold in my room even with a heater going..

lower temps will produce favorable results..you are pre-harvest drowning correct?

wow this is a cool thread im very interested in this "drowning" the roots process as you stated earlier in the thread it makes the curing process much faster as the fermentation process starts earlier and this is exactly what i need. i run a perpetual op and cant really have my herb sitting around in jars for a month. now i just have a ? sorry if you already covered it in previous pages i only got through the first 5 lol. anyway i run hydro flood and drain tables in flower so should i just run my pump and flood 24/7 for the last 7 to 10 days with tap water? my timer once went out on me and made my pump run for 2 days, needless to say i found the leaves where very droopy. im assuming this would be a normal occurrence for this procedure right.
