Love Canal was/is a toxic waste superfund site in the US. Upstate NY. It's pretty much become the poster child for corporate irresponsibility and pollution.
C'mon, it was proven that the amount of real danger in that area was a 'fraction' of what actually occurred, to which you can thank the media, as this was in the early stages of their presenting themselves as 'authorities' of all things they knew little to nothing about (I have cousins still living in the area). I'm more amazed when the media gets it right, because it usually means it was by accident/coincidence.
Even Three-mile Island got more attention than it deserved, but hey, it happened right at the time when "The China Syndrome" came out with Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas and Jack Lemmon. That movie, along with "Silkwood," and "Menudo (the group)" was more of a poster child to "corporate irresponsibility" than Love Canal.
