So other hatcheries do the same job as this one, only humanely, and this one gets a break because "it's food"?
other hatcheries operate about the same. disgusting practices that do not value life in any way whatsoever.
ditto the main chicken farms that compose 99% of the chicken on the market. the "organic" and "free range" and "cage free" labels mean nothing. nothing at all.
did you know that "free range" birds are ones given some access to sunlight? it could be a 3'x3' concrete slab on the end of a barn that houses a thousand chickens, and those cooped up poor little fuckers still count as "free range".
but that only refers to meat birds. egg birds get it even worse.
i suggest you check out the documentary "food inc", and take a glimpse between the practices of tyson chicken growers versus someone like joel salatin.
tyson chicken pumps their chickens so full of feed from such an early age, and coops up so many birds in such a small space that they can not even walk more than a step or two without falling over. a daily sweep of the barn will pull out several dozen dead birds, passed due to inhumane treatment and neglect.
joel salatin does not have any such problems. his birds are all healthy and happy to no end. and he still gets by just fine without torturing other forms of life for a quick buck. people come to him for meat birds and pullets from states around.
if we stopped sending our tax dollars to big ag and hypocrites like no drama and sent them to honest folks like joel salatin instead, the world would eat much healthier for about the same price.
