The typical farm labor family earns around $10,000 a year.

Estimates of the number of farmworkers employed in the United States vary. According to Robert Guenther, senior vice president for public policy for the United Fresh Produce Association, a produce industry trade group, it’s about 1.5 million to 2 million.

And the pay? Between $10 and $12 an hour, generally. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes less. But, because there isn’t year-round work, according to Salvador, “these families are earning $10,000 a year.

I suppose some, like @Terps and @Ripped Farmer want to punish people for being poor. $10,000 a year is well below poverty scale. From what I've seen, the poor in this country work much harder than the average wage earner. Up those wages to the median wages in this country, say, $35,000 and improve working conditions, throw in health care benefits and a pension for 20 years of service. You'll see people taking those jobs.

Nobody should work full time for less than a living wage.

Regarding cost:

A wage increase will mostly affect fruits and vegetables, because commodity crops — corn, soy, wheat, cotton, and others — are highly mechanized, so most of the work is done by machines. With produce, about a quarter of every dollar we spend at the supermarket goes to the farmer. A third of that quarter — about 8 cents of your produce dollar — goes to the farmworker.

8 cents goes to the worker picking produce. If workers were paid triple the current yearly wage, we'd pay 16 cents more than we currently do. At 50k per year per family, we'd pay 32 cents more for every dollar we currently pay. Produce is only a fraction of the total amount spent of food -- about $6,000 total amount for the average family, We aren't talking about a financial disaster to the nation if farm workers were paid a living wage. Yes, Americans would take those jobs.

Ripper would starve people to the point of taking what he'd offer. Republicans are just that way.

A living wage for one person, but what you liberals want is a living wage for that one person to afford nice toys and be able to squirt out 2.5 kids.

A living wage should be based on 50-60 hours a week for one person splitting the rent with another working person. You want to be able to afford your own place, kids, a nice car? Then be worth more than a burger flipper or a basic laborer that only requires a 3rd grade education. My children do all that stuff as chores, but omg lets pay some dude 50-60k a year for the same basic shit in the real world and cut him lose after a 8 hours of work with 1.5 hours of breaks mixed in.

You don't know what I want. You guys are always trying to tell me what I'm thinking. What's up with that?

$33,000 per year is the median wage for a working adult in the US. There are plenty of people in this country who are single with kids. It doesn't matter that you are disgusted by their "bad" choices, they are here and part of our society. Their kids are part of our society's future.

Please explain to me how that person can pay rent, utilities, transportation, feed and clothe their kids, and pay $15,000 per year for health care coverage. Also save for retirement and their kids college education. $15,000 is the average cost companies pay for for a family's health care coverage.

Then consider trying to live on $10,000 per year.

Would you rather pay a real living wage or higher taxes on health care and law enforcement. Communities with less work are more prone to crime. Who do you think ultimately pays unpaid health costs? A real living wage is cheaper in the long run

Then why don't those immigrant laborers just stay at home where that $10,000/yr. sum is a princely yearly income? ;)

Why don't you answer the question?
Is it beyond your mental capacity and you need to obfuscate that fact by conflating bogus arguments and name calling?

Only you can make you look more stupid than you presently are.
Only you. ;)
How many years in prison do you think you would get for your federal felony crimes, illegal?

Your skinny stringbean ass would get raped so hard in prison. They would pull your girly hair as they ripped your nazi asshole in half

I'll take it on faith since you have such a specific understanding of these things. ;)

We’ve seen your picture, stringbean
Your girly ass would be traded in prison like no other
When you gonna turn yourself in, ya two faced bitch?
I thought that pic you lust over was of LogDog, but keep trying to falsely attribute it to me.
It would be just another in your quest to label me as another former adversary of yours.

When are you going to turn yourself in then?
Can't you understand the dichotomy of that argument on this site that's focus is to suborn committing a felony?

You do more to prove your stupidity than I ever could. ;)

So you wanna pay burger boy nearly 20 bucks an hour so they can work much less and have the same. Fine, but people already making 20 bucks an hour now will need a raise because they are still worth more than burger boy is per hour and always will be, probably why they made more before all the living wage shenanigans. Instantly every business owner and service provider who has a brain will raise their prices knowing everyone has more money with all the increases in cost of goods and services, well except burger boy but he couldn't afford those services before anyway. And now he still can't.

Ah damn.
