Trying to make a shopping list for a 12 cob setup in a 4x4 flowering tent.

So I'm ready to move on from my mars lights... or at least stop flowering under them.

Just trying to get a shopping list together so I can build a great light for this space.

I'm thinking 12 cree 3590's at 3000k.

From there I'm not really sure. Would I get more out of them with 4 drivers powering 3 lights each than 3 drivers powering 4 lights each?

I can't really tell which lights include heat sinks or if most don't and what else I need to buy for each light.

Would a layout like this make sense where each small square is a light and the frame edges are 40 inches?

So basically I'd like your thoughts on the 12 best lights for this build, whether to go 3 or 4 drivers and which drivers you would use. Happy to spend the money to get this right. Cutter and Kingbrite seem like my best options but open to others.

Have you looked at the Quantum Boards? 4 boards in a 4'x4' with 2 - HLG-320H-C2800 meanwells is pretty much as good as it gets for lighting right now. It's what I would be buying. Efficiency through the roof and guys are having great success with them.

its a good layout,for that space i think i would go with 62w per cob (36v cree) using 4 cobs per driver and the meanwell hlg-240-1750b as your drivers.wired for dimmers of course,imo you only need 500 to 600w in there but its nice to have some extra if you plan to grow very tall plants.could also just wire them for 50w using dif drivers like the mw 185-1400b which puts ya right around 50w per cob.cobs heatsinks and cob holders are all seperate and need to be put together unless you go to timbergrowlights.com and buy their kits,where they mount the cobs to heatsinks and color code all your wiring for you and include the wire and drivers needed,plus you get a fused power cord.gl lots of info around here,dont let the citiots get to ya haha.
 
I would consider replacing a few of those 3000k cobs with 2700k and some 3500kcobs to take advantage of IR and full spectrum range. If you are going with 12 cobs I would go with 36v 2700k/3000k/3500k four of each on a HLG-185H-C1400B still a great choice for a driver 200w x 3 is 600w in 16sf which is 37.5 watts/SF which is a little low. If you are not going to fill the space a 3.5x3.5 will do best.
 
I see sixstring is still bashing Citizen and misleading people. Tandy, Citizen are a very good value and cobkits also has light engines (COB assembled on heasink).

OP not sure if your design has the outer cobs all the way in the corner but in a 4x4 you want to bring them out from the wall a bit. a 3x3 frame works great.

also with 4 cobs in the middle you'll prob have a hot spot. id just go with 9 cobs @75W personally (or if youre stuck on 12, go with 3 rows of 4)

In his post he stated his frame is planned to be 40", so those cobs aren't in the corners, they are 8" from each side of the corner.

Put my order in for 12 last night so I'll have that many to work with, open to changing the layout still. I don't really understand how I would get a hotspot there. I could move everything a bit further towards the edges and add a few inches to the frame.

Just because it's a 'hot spot' doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It might actually be your 'sweet spot', it all depends how much wattage you're cranking out.
One man's hot spot is another man's glory hole. Don't ever repeat that out loud though...

So you're running about 600w in a 4'x4'? You didn't mention what drivers you're using...
