Insuance companies themselves, and the agencies they represent, do not require drug tests. If you are getting a CDL, you'll get the test from the State. If you get into a car accident, you'll not likely be tested, but if you cause personal injury or property, you will. Also, any time an employee is injured at work, you're tested, and coverage can be denied due to having drugs in your system. If you even have prescription drugs, you need to show the proof.Does anyone think that insurance companies are possibly part of the problem here? I currently work in an auto body paint shop. Its a little different with us in a small town, but I am led to believe that If i were to apply at another shop I would be tested just because I may have to drive a car owned by someone else. Of course, once the car is at the shop, it is under the shops insurance. I'm wondering all other types of business insurance are subject to similar scrutiny due to liability issues and our incredibly sue happy culture... and yeah, how about those results?
That said, most employers require the tests, and the agencies can set them up with clinics to do that. If you drive for a living (tow trucks, over the road, etc), you will need regular random testing in the company, and results kept in your employee file.
Coverage will always be there for the companies liability, but you might be fucked if you get hurt. It doesn't matter one little bit if you smoked last week, last night, or that morning, you're fucked.
I'm happy to answer any other insurance questions if anyone wants them.....regarding business insurance though......I'm not into personal stuff.
