USA move closer to equality in wages

What will increasing the minimum accompish?

  • Make a lot of workers very happy, and boost the economy

  • Cost jobs and drive businesses into bankruptcy

Not arguing at all. mealry mentioned it..I have no idea of the size difference...is that due to how obese America is? (little dig..lol)

Heathcare is free to end user, like all first world countries apart from America,

Chart is the min weekly wage rising over the years..Person on min wage does not pay into the healthcare subsidy as they dont earn enough..to them its 100% free.

the chart shows wage rising due to inflation. inflation is how government finances things like healthcare and wars. pegging min wage I would say is a good incentive to encourage your politicians to at least show a little fiscal restraint.

if America didnt keep dragging us into all of their stupid wars would also help out our current debt. But thats all another story. What we do works here. But the thread is about America and the problem you lot have to face up and find a solution to..and the hard part doing something about it. The divide between the haves and have not's their appears to be huge .Didn't America once have min wages linked to inflation? Seems i remember something from back in my economics class days..??

I think using the staples like Milk and Bread is far more accurate and linking them to the min wage.

Out of interest What is your price their and min wage?

Also everything has to be taken into account. Like the cost for heath insurance, super annuation,paid leave per year, sick days,fuel,electricity, water..its a big equation trying to compare apples with peaches. I think Norway or some country around their has the highest tax's but the happiest people....

umm..my son worked at Maccas..he was on 17 bucks an hr..(3 yeas ago). he is now an apprentice roof tiler thank fk

I"ll PM his fiancee and see what her hrly rate is. She is a manager at Maccas.

$22:16 an hr is the answer, plus public holiday rates and night shift allowances etc.

I think that was Denmark. they have no min wage, a corporate tax half of ours and we subsidize their defense budget.

consumer prices are 41% higher in oz
rent prices are 58% higher
restaurant bills are 45% higher
groceries are 28% higher

despite the higher min wage local purchasing power in oz is 22% lower than the us.

Here’s the interesting part: Australian’s average monthly disposable income after taxes is only 14.75% more than the U.S. With a 41% increase in consumer prices, Australian’s monthly disposable income purchases 33% less than that of their U.S. counterparts.

and that's with "free" healthcare.
